VERY intriguing update...

As I mentioned in my earlier post, the dealership owner will be out of town until Tuesday. So nothing can really happen until then.

HOWEVER, the sales manager (not the owner) I've been dealing with all this time, just sent me an email. In it, he states "Think 1199R."

No more details. Not sure if they're going to want a tad more of my money for the R. Or if they're thinking of hooking me straight up for all my troubles. Who knows?

We'll have to wait and see...more updates to come.

And again, I really appreciate everyone's input.

A lot more of your money...

Told you!

Don't let this opportunity pass you by. And don't add anymore monies. Leverage the R for same money.

Put another way: you can walk with your money or get the R.

Don't like the R as much? Sell it and turn around and buy a new S from wherever and you're about even for all the trouble, with a little extra scratch -- though that'd be a silly move...

Summer is nearing its end. Though i always preferred riding in SoCal during all other seasons.

Another update: my dealer called earlier today, but I was in meetings throughout the day and I missed the call. He simply left a voicemail to give him a ring back at a convenient time.

Shortly thereafter, I received an email from my dealer. In it, my dealer tells me that "Ducati North America has intervened and located another red 1199S. We can have a fresh, new bike to you within 2-3 days."

OR

We can try to strike a deal on an R that they have in stock. It will definitely NOT be a free upgrade to an R. We are talking more money out of my pocket to make this particular deal happen.

How much more? I'm not sure yet because I wasn't able to drop by the dealership today or call them back before it closed.

Hmmmm...Any thoughts?

There's nothing to think about IMO.
Take the 1199s seeing as everybody except the pope are getting behind this to help you get into your first preference bike, and it's not going to cost you any more.
I think the only reason why your actually considering the 1199r is purely based on speculation on future resale value, and that's very questionable based on past experience.
There seems to be absolutely no real world valid reason for you to own the r.

That's my thoughts.
Good luck.
Cheers.

Get the R if you can afford it! I still say if you walk, they'll give it to you.

Add a full termi and windshield to the S price and what?

No-brainer on the R!

Del Amo motorsports? That's the last of the Duc dealers in the L.A. area... I think. I'm originally from Torrance so I know them well.

Unless you're talking about a different SoCal. city.

Not trying to pressure you to tell us but it's a game we are playing. lol

Don't think R resale values will be much better, because news flash- they won't be!
Dealers are asking $27 for ones with 200 miles that are "used."
We even saw a demo one that you get titled as new and full 24mo warranty go for $26K.

Unless you are a big time track man, the S will scratch ever itch you could imagine. You more than likely wont miss those other 500rpms.
Get a kickass deal on an S (they'll definitely work with you even more on price now), and save yourself $5,000+! You'll never see that extra R money back...

If you're thinking tri- look at this .......- lol http://longisland.craigslist.org/mcd/3974406632.html

Everybody's opinion about the S vs R are valid. For 99% of the people the S would be sufficient. But if you plan to add any accessories that come with the R on your S then it's a different story. If you do the math and add up the cost for each piece of R parts, then you're getting a hell of a deal. I know this because I added most of the R pieces to my S even before the R was announced and spent pretty much what it would cost to buy an R today. And that's not even taking account the engine.

Also, I won't even get into the argument of whether the Termi full system is good or bad, but I had it on both the S and the R and I like it. Never felt I lost any power. Would I buy the Termi full again? Yes I would.

If you have extra cash laying around then go for the R. You're almost there anyways. It's money well spent in my opinion.

The choice is yours. At the end of it all you'll get what you were looking for. Riding a beautiful bike that does pretty much everything great. You'll enjoy riding the Pani!

Absolutely right- if you plan on Termi's then pull the trigger for the R now. If you're like me and think 2,000 for a bent piece of metal is absolutely 100% INSANE, stick with the S :)

More like $3000 for a full Termi. Super INSANE then:D

Haha well, yes! I mean I wouldn't pay either, but I can see $2,000 for the cans (not really, lol) but not $2,000 for the header. I mean a single piece of bent metal for two weeks income? NO THANKS! I'll stick with my equally loud stock setup and be more than happy. Maybe one day ill have them powder coated black like some on here have.

R is no-brainer. You will get some kind of Termi for your S sooner or later. And the exposed aluminum...priceless...

CASE CLOSED...

Went to the dealership today and figured it all out. To make a long story short, I'll be getting a brand new, fresh 2013 red 1199S. No money of any kind exchanged hands.

I'm told that it will take 2-3 days to arrive. During this time, they'll have to unwind/redo all my paperwork. They'll run through the PDI and have it ready for delivery by Wednesday or Thursday of next week.

Having said that...they did try to make me an offer on a R. But they were asking for MUCH more than I wanted to spend. In actuality, I was prepared to make my case and dish out up to an additional $2-3K if it could somehow buy me an R. But their starting point was so far from this that I knew pretty quickly it wasn't going to happen.

As much as I wanted to believe it, I really didn't think that a "free" upgrade was in the cards - even after all I had been through. And truthfully, that would've put me in the position that Brad had outlined earlier. Specifically, I really would've been taking advantage of the situation and the dealer. And I'm just not that type of person.

Keep in mind, I got what I believe to be a sizeable discount on the original sale of my 1199S. In addition, the dealership gave me a nice discount across the board on a bunch of accessories and apparel (DP CF clutch cover, Rizoma pegs/adapters, Rizoma front axle slider, DP race seat, gloves, etc...) (We can go on and on about how this sort of discount is what you're "supposed" to get anyhow...anyways...moving along...)

I'm not one of these guys that comes in guns blazing and demanding the entire world when something goes wrong. You see people like this all the time nowadays. A guy's pepperoni pizza has too few pepperonis on it and the guy goes ...... ballistic, screaming at everyone, demands a refund in addition to a new pizza, and wants to talk to the owner of the joint.

I'm a firm believer that when calmer heads prevail, we can always come to a mutually acceptable agreement.

At the end of the day, I got what I wanted and deserved. Many of you may think that I could've squeezed more out of it, but I'm happy with how things turned out. By the end of next week, I should be an even happier guy...:D

P.S. Now the only thing left to do is "obtain" either a Pit Bull stand or a Baxley wheel chock. Something tells me that they'll "help me out" on this one...;)

Congrats on bringing this tumultuous ordeal to a close. It sounds as though you made the best decision for you and acquired the pristine new S you have been coveting all along; it is a truly remarkable bike. Nothing quite like that first ride home from th dealerahip - take it all in and savor every mile.

Safe riding.

Perfect:)
A good deal/good business is where everyone walks away from the deal not feeling that they were taken advantage of in some way or another.
It also helps to foster mutual respect going forward, which underpins all future dealings between the parties.

It's a good life;)

I am having a similar issue. I ordered and placed a deposit on a RED 1199S, and now I am being told "we don't have one" "BUT there are great deals on a WHITE 1199S. The old bait and switch maneuver.
I am thinking of just switching dealers and finding what I want out of state now. I really don't want a White Ducati, though I guess I could order bodywork and have painted. Humm.
