Don't take what I say to heart.
It's just that from what you are saying in your posts, it's like you're not as street wise as you need to be when dealing with Motorcycle dealerships/sales people.
I'm just trying to get you to think rationally. Not like a green kid that's young, dumb and full of cum.

I work in a Motorcycle dealership, and I've spent plenty of money over the years on bikes, cars, boats and just about anything else with gears in it.
So I've heard it all. Really. There are very few sales people who are genuinely interested in you as a "person", not as a customer.
Sales people will blow wind up your ass any chance they can get.
I also don't like people like yourself getting conned.

I put it to you that the dealership screwed up on your bike (for what ever reason).
If it hadn't been theoretically sold to someone, and they did the PD (pre delivery) on it and the exact same thing happened to it. The dealer would've had to fix it at their own expense regardless.
Then what happens with the bike????

The best and most "honourable" strategy for them, would be to purchase the bike themselves and use it for a demonstrator.
Then after a period of time, they could on sell it to someone with full disclosure as to it's history. Not likely to happen in reality.
Get where I'm coming from?

They're not doing you any favours. Really.
You want a new bike, then take delivery of a new bike. Not damaged stock at any price.
Believe me, it won't be disclosed to DUCATI what's happened to the bike either.
Actually they will be reluctant to tell them for a number of powerfull reasons which I wont go into.
If Ducati knew what had happened to the bike and a warranty claim arises even remotely connected to the pre-existing damage, or DUCATI can tie it to the pre-existing damage, DUCATI will not cover it AT ALL.
You will be on your own, and your preferred dealer may well be singing a different tune. There will be no guarantee of a good outcome.

Believe me you have paid for a full 2 year warranty on every aspect of the bike.
With a DUCATI you will need that right to the end of the 2 years. Believe me, you will need that behind you all the way.
And DUCATI are notorious for warranty rejections. You sometimes have to fight tooth and nail at the best of times.
Ask me how I know:D I currently own 2 of them.

Wait for another bike, and make sure it's really another bike and not the damaged one that's been fixed up.
I don't have faith in your dealer from what you say they're trying to bung on. Their integrity is a little shakey. IMO.
Besides, if you stand your ground now (in the nicest possible way) with the dealer, you will be in a better place with your dealings with them in all respects and many different levels because they will be less likely to take you for granted.

To set the record straight, I haven't told them anything since my trip to the dealership yesterday. I haven't committed either way. I simply told them that I'd sleep on it for a day or two and get back to them.

Brad: you do bring up valid points that I hadn't considered - particularly the part about the lead time necessary to get new parts and do the "repairs." And I like how you call it like you see it. You're a straight shooter - and I can appreciate that. But with all due respect, I don't know that there is a need to question my age/maturity...

I'll give all of this some more thought tonight and decide in the morning...At least I know which side of the fence you sit on Brad...:)

What a mess!

Thanks for your input. I think you said it best.

It's not that big of a mess really.
For the dealer, yes certainly.

For the customer, it should be nothing more than an inconvenience due to a delay.

The dealer principal should've contacted him immediately after it happened with a full explanation and a sincere apology.
Then toped it off, with a commitment to immediately order in a replacement bike for him to take delivery of at his earliest convenience. Of course depending on delivery dates. No questions asked.
This did not happen, and that's why I am of the opinion that the dealers integrity is questionable.
Actually if it was me, I would be looking for another dealer;)

The customer should not have to worry about the deal what so ever, and not carry any burden over the matter. IMO.

Remember- once you take delivery, it's yours. Unless I was getting a couple extra thousand more $$$ off the price I wouldn't in anyway accept the bike. Strike one on a bike before you've even taken delivery just doesn't put my mind at ease. Trust me- if you're like a lot of us you're already going to have a few problems with the bike. Try and get one that already doesn't have major warranty work done to it. That's just my $.02. In the end if it comes down to waiting another month, maybe just take the bike but I'd really be sure you get something written in the contract protecting you, say plastics should start peeling/fading etc etc.

Enjoy the 1199 once you get it!

Agreed 100%, the dealers integrity is questionable. Delaying the inevitable is not the customer service way of doing things. I'm all too familiar with NEVER being kept in the loop from my dealer and quite frankly I find it very bothersome.

Brad...Thanks for the inside info. I really do appreciate the time you took to give me your opinions on this matter. Frankly, it was refreshing and insightful.

It's a ...... situation that I wish I had never been a part of. But at the end of the day, I want/need/deserve a new bike without problems. And I never would feel right about taking the one currently at the dealership.

If/when I do force their hand and request a different bike, it will be done firmly, but in a courteous and professional manner. I don't believe there is a need to take a piss in anyone's Cheerios over this.

And, realistically, I don't care about possibly having to wait a few weeks.

Thanks again everyone. And I'll keep you posted...

By the way, who is your local SoCal dealer? Enquiring minds want to know. Sorry, if I'm not very PC.

Outstanding decision:):)
Please post pics of your new ride when she comes.
I wish you all the best with it.

Cheers
Brad

here is what i was talking about in my other post about loose bolts everyone defends ducati. .... that. they messed it up get a new bike. they messed up the bike before you picked it up. get a new one. who knows what hidden stuff could have been damaged. most of these guys have no idea about this bike. im still hearing there arent any dash problems. who builds a bike where the exhaust melts the fairing? who builds a bike where you cant see your oil level without having to remove a fairing? Trust me get a brand new bike. the paperwork is nothing but will cost THEM money

I would not take a repaired bike, you paid for new, you should get new. Also, if you have not taken physical delivery then it does not matter how many papers you signed. I have bought plenty of cars that needed things added at the dealership (tinted windows, new rims and tires, etc.), after i am done paying for it and signing all the docs they ask you to drive the car out of the dealership and around the block and then back into the dealership where they will make the changes the next day. Same thing happened when i bought a new Audi for my wife 6 months ago, the salesman drove it to my house and we signed the docs there. He said that since he drove it there that i needed to take it around the block after we where done. That is what finishes the deal. You can sign all the docs you want, but if you don't take delivery, there is not much they can do.

I also want to know who your dealer is? :)

You have a mancrush on Rossi, just admit it.

This will be a matter of how long I have to wait to get a new, different red 1199S brought in from elsewhere.

I don't mind waiting 2, 3, maybe even 4 weeks, but if it drags into MONTHS, I'm going to be annoyed...once again...

In reality it shouldn't take THAT long, should it?

No way

The dealer told him about the battery that blew up and the dealer offered him another new bike so the dealer opened that door. The dealer can not change his tune now. Demand the "new bike" not the repaired one.
Just my 2 cents.

There is Pani S everywhere. It should not be hard to get one. It should a take a week at most.

ask for a discount on an R!
