I am having a similar issue. I ordered and placed a deposit on a RED 1199S, and now I am being told "we don't have one" "BUT there are great deals on a WHITE 1199S. The old bait and switch maneuver.
I am thinking of just switching dealers and finding what I want out of state now. I really don't want a White Ducati, though I guess I could order bodywork and have painted. Humm.
Did they have the red in stock at the time you placed your deposit? If so, make sure they understand that you put your money down for a red and intend to get just that whether it be at their dealership or another.
My advice: do not settle and be very wary of any dealership that would bait and switch.
I had a horrible bait and switch experience with Team Mancuso Powersports Southwest in Houston on a 2012 Panigale S they have for sale. I had two competing dealership offers on the table when they called and gave me a slightly better offer. I told them I would make the 1 hour drive to pick up the bike that afternoon (through Saturday downtown Houston traffic). Upon arriving at the dealership with my wife and that unmistakable feeling of excitement that comes with picking up a brand new bike, the sales manager sat me down with a pen and paper and began to tell me all of the reasons they could not give me the price they quoted. On top of this, I learned that the store owner had been joy riding this particular bike, putting over 300 miles on it while scuffing the front fender all to hell! Despite this, the sales manager insisted the bike was "New" and offered a horrid price on the bike. It was the classic get the customer in the dealership and then switch the deal hoping they make an emotional purchase. It was a huge waste of my time and a total lack of respect on the dealership's part.
Long story short, I refused to negotiate, walked, and got an absolutely killer deal on a brand new 2012 S from great dealership in Dallas the following week. Bottom line is get what you want and don't settle. Make the dealership earn your business.
