1299 and 1299s still get ...... 39 tooth sprocket

Ducati Forum

Help Support Ducati Forum:

My HP4 Comp, BMW's flagship race bike, came with $1,000 rearsets that don't allow for GP shift and an "adaptive" suspension that doesn't work on the track and needs to be ripped out and replaced with a standard shock.

Good point, a 39 tooth sprocket is a huge miss.

When I was in Jail with Arsehammer, he always had me doing the "reach around"..
Those were fine days no doubt...

well it seems that the 1299 and 1299s still get the ...... 39 tooth rear sproket while the R gets the 41 tooth sprocket. i wonder why this is can it be they want you to upgrade bwhahaha

The way I see it.
Two distinct possibilities exist, regarding the purpose of starting this thread.

The first has it's basis in ignorance.
I put it to you, that you clearly do not understand the requirements and commercial realities behind why DUCATI has configured the bike with the 39 tooth rear sprocket from factory.
Going by some of your posts in the past. I believe this is a distinct possibility.

The problem with being ignorant is.
When one is ignorant, one doesn't know how ignorant one actually is:(

The remaining possibility, is that you are .... stirring AGAIN, and also by strict definition you are also trolling AGAIN.

I think you have a foot in both camps on this one.
I put it to you, it's not a good look Mark.

In an attempt to shed some light upon your ignorance.
Consider the owners of the BMW GSA's who nearly always choose to not fit the WAY, WAY OVER PRICED genuine accessories to their bikes, and go for the aftermarket stuff at a fraction of the cost.
Admittedly the genuine accessories always fit much better on the bikes, and make servicing much more straight forward, and by extension easier for the Tech performing the work.
But they're certainly not necessarily worth the over inflated premium.
Gouging is the word that comes to mind with regard to price structure of the genuine BMW accessories.
That is of course provided BMW are keeping sufficient stock of the accessories in the first place, and some lucky owners aren't waiting for months for the accessories to come in for them to be fitted well after the PD and they've taken delivery.

The great BMW's:rolleyes:
The stories I could tell you about it all:eek:

again you ass hats bring up bmw. i said nothing about bmw and if you are a street rider the 41 sprocket is far superior than the 39 tooth one.

tricoloresf i love gp shift so i sold the hp rearsets and bough attack performance ones. gp shift installed no changing the linkage no cutting the fairing and almost 400 profit for me. the electronics you can turn off.

the ducati doesnt come with gp shift either unless you buy the R. which is 5k more than your hp4 comp. if not you have to buy rearsets also.

good try though play again another day.

Actually, there were a lot of discussions that the software fix did away with the need for the sprocket. So this whole thread is a moot point.

Figured I'd give you a chance but your response proves the other guys were right - ignorance and reach arounds.

Can someone please poke out both of my eyes the next time i click on a thread that Mark419ny has started?

The answer is very simple. The "R" with its higher rev ceiling will have the same top end with the 41 tooth than the others with the 39 tooth... Elementary my dear ... uhm ... Watson. :p

Come on Brother!

BMW still has the deformed front headlights, but I'm not posting that on the BMW forum.

Some people don't mind the 39 tooth sprocket.:)

I never changed mine on my old "S".:)

Why would you have to cut the fairing? If that's the case then the aftermarket rearsets that require that are crap...

on the stock hp4 you get a carbon belly pan and the rearsets are set a specific way. if you use gp shift you have to reroute the shifter linkage and flip the lever. all costing extra. bmw charges i think 350 for the linkage which you can get from giles for 150 same thing except for color. when you change the linkage you have to flip the lever and you would have to cut the belly pan to make the lever fit. totally stupid and over looked.

fyi ducati did the same thing with the sl. gp shift i believe wont work correctly or fit correctly. jello knows this better than i.

Hmmm interesting that they would overlook something that simple that a lot of people would be switching to.

has anybody in their right mind bought the ducati one. its not quick change and its more expensive than aftermarket. many other options cheaper and better than ducati. many posts on it

I did..
Ducati offered a great discount on the chain and sprocket "upgrade" which worked out cheaper than going aftermarket.. So why not..;)

How so... mine is a daily commuter... I've done both 39t and 41T.
There are pros and cons to both... Horses for courses I say..

but what would I know.. I'm no "expert" like yourself ;)... I just ride the thing.

Who cares? It's a f'n sprocket. Want a 77 tooth gear and some metal studded leather undies to hang out with the freaky german bikers? Buy it on Amazon and a chain. Whoop de do.

1st world New York problems again?

;)

For a newbie like me... can you share the benefits? Getting a 1299S... should I be looking at adding this to the mod list? What are we talking about, cost wise? and what is the complete part list (chain, etc.) Thank you.
