1299 or panigale r

I ride my bike every day to work, rain, shine, fog.... The 1299S seems the way to go for me, especially since I can install a full Akrapovic Ti system and drop 10.5 lbs, then fit a lithium battery and drop another 5 lbs. at around 405 lbs fully wet, the 1299 will have plenty of power, tons of torque and with the addition of the Akra, be up around 10 hp over stock if I get the tune right.

Throw a bit more money at it, with lighter wheels, some Ti bolts, a 520 kit and some more CFCS and you're right at 395 - 400 lbs, which is lighter than my Triumph Daytona 675R.

No doubt, I would prefer the 1199R, but I would feel terrible subjecting it to daily commutes and 15,000+ miles a year and only 7-10 trackdays a year.

Cheers.

That's exaclty the kind of talk that is making me question whether the R is the right choice!

The only thing left I'll have on you is the badge! I guess the R will be a head turner........ but then so are most Panigales.

I do have the advantage where it is single seat only so the missus can f*ck off if she thinks she can come out for a 'nice' ride with me.

I hate when that happens. I was at the coffee shop with my 2012 1199S and a couple of guys told me how nice a bike it was....then one of them noticed it was not an "R" model, they walked away muttering that it was just a piece of .... "S" model. I hate when that happens. :(

Yep...doesn't really matter the differences between the S and R but only that it is the all mighty "R"! Lol...that's the ....... or I mean Starbucks crowd for ya.

Well, you'll also have Ducati's top of the line Superbike with more than a breathing on by Ducati Corsa (not unlike Honda's HRC).

I was trying to think of an automotive analogy and the closest thing that I could come up with was the Dodge Challenger Hellcat and the Viper. Both achieve the desired performance but one does it for less money. And, I am 100% sure both owner get their jollies from either ride!

From a monetary standpoint, the S will be a very good and arguably better buy especially once you get a hold of a Rapidbike system and a full Akra exhaust. You save $4k over the R by purchasing the S and adding the Akra and Li ion battery. Or, buy the R and take advantage of the Superleggera derived engine and track biased focus. It's nice to have choices!
