20/21 Chassis setup for 18/19 model?

Interesting post, this. These changes are all do-able by a home mechanic. Making the most of what we have is key to many of us who don't have access to unlimited funds, but want to make our bikes that bit better. Keep up the good work!
What is very interesting to me, is that Ducati changed the 1199 swingarm pivot by something like 4mm for the 1299. That's a country mile as far as I'm concerned for a chassis 'tweak.' Then from one year V4 to another, they have to do a similar huge change of geometry. Very strange.

I think the pivot change was done in effort to mimic the rear “squat” and anti-wheelie effect on the drive out of corners similar to the “ride height device” used in MotoGP. You could get a somewhat similar effect by reducing the front sprocket size or increasing the rear size, if the trans gearing will allow it without overrev.

Of course I’m just guessing…

I believe to get to the 22 pivot height one would need the 22 lower engine casing and side plates

Although, tbf, I believe the 2020 onwards have a different spec fork (clamps for the steering damper don't fit between the bikes). So could be worth investigating that further. But, you can adjust your bike by 2mm to achieve the same front ride height.

Do not over torque the lower triple clamp bolts. They are 8Nm. You WILL break something if you over torque them.

The top triple clamp bolts are 22Nm.

I think the clipons MAY be 10Nm.

I’ve got 22 Nm for the clip ons unless I’m reading this wrong

Yea from how it feels, I dont even want to start to try to change my 19 to a 22 chassis.
It seems like this was a bigger refresh from Ducati and who knows what parts are all affected that we cant see but make sure their changes actually work.

The biggest change in the geometry change from 19 or 20 to 22 is the change in the swingarm pivot point. That means a new motor housing.

I don’t have the expertise to say definitively, but my mechanic said he’s adapting the adjustable swingarm pivot from the R to my 2019 base. The engine case isn’t being changed. I’ll update when it’s done.

That's right. The conversion is not a problem. A limitation. The motor housing of the R corresponds to the MY 22. This means that adjustment is possible, but from a different starting point for the swingarm pivot.

Phew. I just went checked torques to double check the work of the dealer when the swapped out my forks. I wish we had access to more recent service manuals. The fact that Ducati makes these unavailable to the public is a reprehensible.

IIRC, they are available...kind of...as a digital package per model year. So one would have to buy the service manuals for every bike in a model year. That nonsense aside, I'm surprised more recent version haven't made it out into the wild.
