wow,

thats one way to ruin a gorgeous bike.

Makes you wonder how many people will ask for the old heat-shield to get installed

I don't really find it ugly and if it does the job all the better. Good on ducati for coming up with a solution. Owners complained, and reports of burns where made. They took the feedback and did what they could.
Can't wait for to get mine installed, my thighs will thank me

I tend to think that if we had the newly designed heat shield from the very beginning noone would have said two peeps. And those that removed it to put a smaller/lighter one would have been criticized for doing so for one reason or another.
Do I think the original shield is more appealing, absolutely. Can I live with the new one...I can.
As long as I have the power/performance of the machine, it's all good.

+1 - now you either have a heat problem and get it installed and be thankful that Ducati provided it or you leave the original in place because you prefer the looks and don't have a problem with the heat. Seems simple enough.

I wish someone would post a picture of it with a rider actually riding the bike. You will see some of the part around the exhaust, but not the parts around the cylinder head.

For non-R models, will people be able to get the old heat shield design from the factory on the new 2013 models?

We live in the same city and I've never had heat issues. It does get warm, but never to the point where it was unbearable. Anyway, I opted to keep the original shield.

Also, you won't be getting that part from Shaganappi Motorsports since they're no longer an authorized Ducati dealer. You might have to get it done through Argyll. They just dropped my unit back at my home last week after spending all of winter getting work done. They're good guys! :)

Actually it makes me wonder why they didn't design it (the bike to begin with, not the fix) like the Desmo sitting in the background of that pic. Would have been so easy to fair the whole thing in with heat shielding behind it, but the stylists had to show a bit of leg, hanging that rear cylinder head out for all to ogle. Leaving no good surface for the rider to get locked into and the aluminum subframe (that bolts to that head and carries heat up from it) exposed to legs. Form over function. Kind of like some women I've known; beautiful, but a real pain in the arse on the odd occasion... ;)

This is what is known as design overkill and happens when you piss-off the engineering department responsible for 1199 at DMH.

Either that, or an Audi guy picked it up and "sorted zee problem"

What's wrong with you? You German or something? :)

+1 I agree completely. I doubt most of us would have said a thing if that was a stock shield to begin with, i for one would still have purchased the bike. Now if it was shipped in PINK like Capt CF wanted, then i might have to rethink my position. It "is what it is" as Traumas Favorite TV mom and Honey Boo Boo Momma says.

Deal with it or sell your bike but for god sake, STFU already about the design of the fix that most of us have been crying for ducati to do, or better yet, Design something better!!!!! And WTF Cant anyone take a picture of the other side of the bike, is this suppose to be a one sided heat shield? Come on people....

Looks to me that these pictures are the bike prior to installing the full Termi system, I doubt the Termi system will have this style of heat shield, it should be carbon ?

i sure hope so!

I personally didn't mind the heat/ burns on my inner thigh. A) Gave me a reason to go fast and B) Gave the bike more character imo. Sticking with the old heat shield
