I was looking at a 2013 S model last Friday. Didn't have the new heat shield; but, the dealer told me that the new heat shield will be a multilayer affair: foil, fiberglass insulation (like what is inside of some mufflers), then the plastic on top.
So the earlier post about not understanding how a piece of plastic will make much of a difference is correct. A piece of plastic, by itself, won't make a difference.
But the new heat shield will not be, just a piece of plastic.
