This is what is known as design overkill and happens when you piss-off the engineering department responsible for 1199 at DMH.

Either that, or an Audi guy picked it up and "sorted zee problem"

Hahaa! and now has been "poo poohed":D

we better fancy the new heatshield

that's what you get for showing of through town at 40mph and then moan about the heat! :p

I already refused to take the heat shield from my dealer, except for the side plates...I will take them ...... Bestum's CF cover is lined with thick layer of heat shield material, I will give that a try down the line.

I personally like the new heat-shield quite better and do believe that it makes the skinny rear section look more harmonious when compared to the older style. I'm glad that my "R" will look like that when I'll receive it!
Even though I'm going to be a owner of one rather soon, I still do believe that the tail section could have been designed a bit sexier! Not that we buy these type of bikes to pose with them, should I have added to my comment!!!

Carbon Replacement

After speaking with 3 VERY reputable carbon companies, and one of the most knowledgable carbon fiber professionals I have ever met, it does not seem that this gnarly (both ugly as hell to some, and good looking to others) heat shield guard will not be made in carbon fiber. Thats right, no carbon replacement part to change out w Ducati OEM piece.

Now before you start going off on me, this is only speculation and the statement of 3 companies. To be honest I think it is a no brainer to make this piece in carbon fiber for all those who dont throb over this piece as is. Personally I hope someone does create it in CF and that it is so glossy it blinds people from even looking at it ! :D:D:D

Just passing along what I was told this afternoon folks so dont shoot the messenger ok?

BTW- sorry to hijack a thread here, I know what that feels like. :(

Could you post more pic of the carbon new heat shield on the 1199r. I would like to see it on different angle

Whoa there, Ilmberger told me they will likely do a Ceramic Composite for the full soon...

Hello,

thank you very much for your E-Mail.

We will probably make a part for a racing exhaust system.

As soon as we have it in program, you will see it on your homepage.

Have a nice time.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us.

Best Regards

Well they were obviously not one of the three. And I have not seen any gloss work from them at all, but really wasnt looking as their stuff doesnt appeal to me. Hope so.

Ceramic isn't glossy by nature, but what it does do is make an EXCELLENT heat insulator.

I think the best heat insulator is attitude. Repeat after me, there is not heat issue, there is no heat issue..:D

Dude, I'm not part of the whiny crowd. Yes my bum hurts sometimes from it, but I like raw, unadulterated performance and I accept it. I'm so tired of even hearing jokes about heat.

I ordered a CF heatshield way back, and it came with a foil liner. Maybe some of the people complaining don't have that. Don't get me wrong, it is hot, just not in the unbearable stage for me.

I have the termi lined cf shield. Not impressed with quality; want the ceramic for looks, performance, and quality.

LEFT side pic!

plastic on the standard termi, said to be carbon on the race kit...

but:

i saw the R in the flesh for the first time and i liked it... but not enough to stop doing what i'm doing...

it's an amazing bike, but let it be said : it's not SP,SPS, 996R,998R,749R,999R, 1098R or 1198R quality.. it is an R, but on the cheap... : no rear stand, no hood, no nrplaque, some carbon but not the one that counts ( fairings, head, tail, etc...)

i''m happy mine will be what it will be... An R Desmo style

Ok, that angle makes me like it less, and I was really trying to like it. I'll still do it, I commute daily in downtown traffic. And as colosed in at that is, I wonder how those CF fenders are going to hold up under the heat.

How come you have the termi full system and you heat shield isnt in carbon fiber?
