Apparently, coating the rear cylinder and header-loop in dog .... will also massively reduce heat.

...... I'm not going be doing that either.

Actually, I believe with the methane and compounds of dog ...., its burning would create an exothermic reaction and actually increase the heat produced. That being the case, I think we can all agree you shouldn't put .... on your bike that makes it hotter. Following that logic, wouldn't that include the original heat shield? Ergo, the new shield is not a piece of ..... ;)

do you fellows really believe that any piece of tin, CF or other plastic POS is going to considerably reduce the mythical heat that much?...really?

to each their own, but don't put any credit into the "shield" until its actually been tried out by those who are sensitive to this issue.

ponderous

It looks like to me it has little "scoops" on the side. Meaning, it will only help when moving. The so-called "heat issuse" (which never really was/is/will be one) will still occur in slow to stopped traffic conditions.

Remember, you cannot ELIMINATE the heat of the bike no matter what you do. (1 horsepower hour = 2541.064343 Btu) You can only REDIRECT it.

Well this topic has got people going and it's all down to personal opinion. My opinion is that it looks ******* awful. I really hope this isn't an insight of 'design to come' from Ducati. Although I have heard they're considering a side-car for the Diavel.

I'm changing my exhaust to the full Termi system at some point soon, and have been contemplating the ceramic coating in black. Not many people use this application on bikes in the UK, so I wanted it to look that little bit different.

I did consider exhaust wrap, as per the 1199 promo film that Ducati did when Bayliss takes it out of the pit garage.

Of course, I personally think that Ducati has designed it like this for the UK market so we have something to warm our hands up on, for the 11 months of the year when it's not summer ;-)

Correct. Nobody has said they like it, and those that think they have a problem with the heat they can't deal with, will get it.

You can't see it from the left side or when you are on it. It is probably hard to see it when your are riding as your leg covers it. And all agree they would have bought it with it oriiginally. My only concern is it will eventually be integrated into other parts, and difficult to remove or discard.

I'll bet a $1000 that if this heat shield would have been the original heat shield, not one single person would have every said, "The bike is so beautiful, except for that ugly heat shield." Seriously, would never have happened. In fact, maybe even a safe bet that if this were the original, and the original was used as the fix, a bunch of people would now be talking about how stupid that one looks.

I just try to look at it as if seeing the bike for the first time and it looks fine. It actually balances out colors well, matches various flow of the bike (as in look at the vent in fairing and line on bottom of tank, they are in line with new shield). It's one-sided which matches the single swing arm aesthetic. It blocks a little daylight under the seat, but many of us I imagine find form in function. So having the function of directing heat makes it look cool (and yes, I believe very slight redirections of heat can have drastic differences on what is felt)

So, sorry for beating the dead horse, but I don't see the need for such negativity for a fix that Ducati obviously is losing money on to address complaints. A type of fix I would expect for next generation stuff like this. So I hope some of you naysayers will attempt to look at the bike as if you were seeing it for the first time and really see if you would have thought it was ugly if it was the original. I think it looks as good as the original, just different. I will get it. I will love it. And I will chuckle at anybody who tries to tell me my bike is ugly because of it. Then I will go back to the thread about the dumbest thing anybody has said about your bike and post it.

I'm not sure I've ever disagreed with more points in one single post.

I'll try to break it up into multiple posts next time. ;)

that is funny!!:D

i think even had it originally come with it, my nature in general is to strip things down and i usually end up with a parts bin full of useless crap from every bike I have owned.

so...you can PM me to find where to send my $1000...or we can use paypal;)

Disclaimer: Collection of the $1000 requires solid proof of a differing timeline in the space-time continum. All such proof must be certified and delivered to oferor within 30 days, including documented evidence of the required time machine and video footage of the alternate reality. Once all evidence is certified and delivered, will such funds be released. Oferee should expect eight to ten years for delivery. In the event that during the time of investigation Ducati introduces a version of the panigale with any altered heat shield that both parties find acceptable, this agreement is null and void.

I've got a look on my new '13 Tricolore today,it sure has some wierd plastic bits on.The heat shield doesnt look exactly as the 'R version displayed in earlier post either. Now its a spaceship for sure!

it is customary to post pics or it didn"t happen!

here's we go, now we have different types of shields. how do we know the replacement shields are the same as the stocks shields on the new bikes?

folks until we've seen it with our own eyes instead of in pictures.....

Remember, there is no heat, stay away from the heat topic, far, far away. Think cool thoughts
