2014 1199R Question

You want to go check out a Tricolore ;)

Funny you mention that. The salesman was actually trying to convince me that's what I needed. It just happens to be a 2012 that he needs to move. It's a better value for most I'd say, and also a beautiful bike. If I'm dumping the cash though, I'm going all in and getting the R. Low probability of buyers remorse for me that way.

I hate to break this to anyone,

but a new model year is always gonna have a slight improvement over the previous. So why is that a surprise to everyone all the time?

It's like a computer....the moment you bring it home something better comes out. Maybe not a huge upgrade all the time, but there will be something always out there that is better than what is in your garage. Best just to appreciate what you have and be happy with that!

I had my choice of Tricolore and R. $1K between them in price but all the factory CF and engine internals added tot he R make it a bargain over the Tri. Got the R and never looked back. I had a 1098 Tricolore and it was gorgeous, the Panigale Tricolore tops even that, but the R is just crazy over-the-top awesomeness.

When do they generally announce the next year changes? Sept, Oct?

Generally the dealers will have a meeting in aug or sept where some will get their ears on info. This is usually where you get most of the leaks.

November, @ EMICA show most of your rumors will be confirmed or be determined as complete bollocks.

Rumour I heard was Skyhook suspension to keep the Panigale in line with the S1000R. It's basically just a software change, three potentiometers an accelerometer and a rate gyro, plus a few more wiring runs in the stock loom. Not difficult to incorporate into the 2014 model. IMHO it's more likely to be electronics than any radical design changes, as this is the one area where it won't cost a fortune to change tooling, just minor amendments to the layout, location and mounting of the components as the infrastructure is already there.

I never quite get the value comparison between an R and a Tric

Sure between an S and an R, but for me the incremental cost of the Tric is purely for the paint, which the R doesn't have, so this kinda puts it out of the equation.

That is why Tri will not be available in 2014.

(To me) It's pretty simple- with the Tri you're simply paying THOUSANDS$$$ for the Colored stockets, thats it. They know people weren't spending an extra $3K-$4K simply to get built in DDS. Thats why a Tri was out of the question for me at purchase time. With SRP on the S @ $24K, the Tri should've been more around $25,5 in my opinion. (About $1k more for the paint "sticker" job, and $500 for the DDS). The Tri at $28K was a ripoff since this bikes inception.

Sad to see all the depreciation particularly on the Tri's because of R pricing at under $30K.

Now, if they made an R with a Tri paint job for $29,995 or $30,995 then GOODBYE WHITE PANI!

I've pondered PM'ing Gunny about Belissimoto goodies, but I'm not dumping nearly $5,000 for some prettier (and carbon fiber) panels...

Free full Termi system, light flywheel, 41T rear, carbon bits and Ti con rods? :D

I made an uh-oh. I meant the Tri should be $25,5 not the R. The R is priced spot-on.

I totally botched my whole point. Fail. I've since edited my statement.

Done - Upgraded the S to the R

I pulled the trigger late last week and picked up the R. I was able to only put on 250 miles so far...

Even though I haven't taken it out on a longer spirited ride, I feel the difference.. The R feels like it pulls so much stronger and faster than the S. I understand the difference in sprocket would affect the mid range which was not done to the S.. The bike just spins up so much faster!!

I appreciate all the group's input while I was making the decision. :D

Thanks for the input from the group.. The dealership today gave me a pretty good deal today.. I pick up the 2013 "R" on Thursday..

The way I see it, I had to pull the trigger.. I have always had my sights set on the "R" after it was announced to come out.

Yeah, I lost money in depreciation costs and aftermarket parts on the "S" but.....the self satisfaction knowing I purchased the bike I really wanted is worth it!!!!!!!

Looking forward to breaking it in!!

Congrats on your new Panigale R bro.. enjoy every moment with your baby !!!!

BTW I live around Minneapolis too and am saving up to get one sometime. I don't have a bike now but am definitely eyeing the R for now or the top of the line superbike from Ducati if they announce anything for 2014/2015 if they do come up with something new.

Hope to meet u some day bro :)

Okay, so will you who bought your R's in the last month tell us what you pa

.... actually nevermind. Dont Botha. My S is more then enough.

Yeah I bought an R with the paper work for a base sitting on front of me. Just couldn't see spending 5000 grand on a bike after just buying it. I'm glad I bought the R!

Here it is sleeping in my garage in Upstate NY.image.jpg

In two weeks, it will be on a plane with me, ( yes my bride travels in style), to Saudi Arabia. It will be tracked at losail in Qatar, and at the formula one track in Bahrain for the next two years while I work there.

Will post video of the night track days in Losail...it's quite a trip!

Funny reading your post since I was going to buy a base at first and ended up with the R as well :D
Rode her 1,400 miles in the Rocky Mountains last weekend....what a blast :)

There will be a 2014 1199 with higher spec than the R. It will not be called RS, or other familiar Superbike labels.
