2018 Ducati V4 Its real, well at least the motor

The 84mm bore size previously mentioned doesn't make much sense to me. Unless there are two distinct variations of the V4 motor that will share some external parts...

84MM bore - Makes perfect sense for a 1200-1300 V4 sportbike or power cruiser and maybe even a true sports tourer too. But...IMO The engine cases would be then be too big and heavy for 1000CC class SBK, which is limited to a 81mm bore.

So I'm thinking that Ducati must be working on a couple similar but different V4 engines. One for competing in WSBK and another will be for high torque street platforms that will be premiering a few years down the road. Pretty smart move considering that Euro V is coming.

One of the articles mentioned that the base engine will be a 1200cc motor, and that the "R" version will be a 1000cc motor for WSBK requirements.

Ok ok....... I'm going to get in so much trouble for this, but..... cycler's friend wasn't the only one with a 1299R. It was supposed to be a super secret model

And yes you got me too haha. I can take the ribbing when I make an ass of myself and write the wrong thing. Would have been better if it were april fools

The picture on the front cover of InMoto looks awesome - those termi's look nice. That's a great looking bike, even if its not a million miles from the 1299, who cares.

I just hope that Ducati opt for lightness/agility/handling over power. Oh and style too (please no massive Euro4/5 side exhausts, I want those underslung ones!)

some more from todays leak

I reckon this will be worth buying a, when do they usually announce the finished bike from when spy shots are gathered.

It will usually be announced at the shows in Italy in September and released early 2017. The R version a year later.

I wish this was the world we lived in............ it's not. When's the last time you saw a motorcycle magazine praise a bike for it's lightness and handling and say "this bike's better even though it has less power"? Never. It's power, that's all the "market" cares about. And not even "real world" power, it's dyno graph power. Just look at all of the comparison articles, dyno shootouts, etc. It's the default conversation for people who can't ride (i.e. most motojournalists) because it's objective. Handling, agility, etc. are subjective. If I had MY way, we'd have a 130hp 599 Panigale twin. That would be the shiz-nitz!

...or a 599 SuperMono (with the 130hp of course)

Have you ever had any of those Kramer bikes show up at any of your track events? They look kind of like what many............ok, maybe like 4 people, wish existed.

Agreed. Just wouldn't want them to ruin the handling for the sake of more BHP (and weight) when in reality the 1299 ain't exactly lacking power.

No, but those look pretty awesome. I've always lusted after a Pierobon or NCR also. Seriously considered building a Pierobon with a 400 scrambler engine for the Ultralight race class, and finally came to my senses on that.

I drool over some of the Pierobon pics on FB all the time. Love what they do. If I had ".... you" money, I would absolutely have an x60r.
