HP sells superbikes. If this V4 hit the showroom with 220HP for 20k, people would line up to buy it.

I'm not with this new trend of calling a 900+cc bike a middleweight. It's a liter bike. Also a good 30lbs heavier than the 675R.

'Or like a light 959' meaning modified for weight reduction is what I meant. I have nothing against the 675R and came very close to buying one for track duties.

But then it's not about me it's about the V4 DUC. I think it will be great.

959 is closer to a 1000cc.

around a 600cc twin would make very friendly power, very trackable bike, the key being the weight of a 250/300cc bike.

Back in the day, that's how the racing classes were set up. Even when the AMA went to allowing 1000cc twins in the 600 classes, you didn't see any of them winning. Took the Buell 1125cc to do it.

The way I see it the 959 is technically a litre bike, just not a litre-class bikes.

Agreed, I want a REAL middleweight Superbike that can be raced, maybe if the whole V4 thing happens and the large bike goes back to 999cc's it would realistically happen. Or what I REALLY want is a lightweight Superbike that can be raced, a competitor to the RC390 only WAY better in the Ducati sort of way! THAT bike should be an L-Twin 399cc and I would CRUSH everyone in our Lightweight GP races!

the CBR300 race class has the biggest fields at my local track.
Last weekend we had Troy Bayliss and his son Oli racing (and winning ) in a 3hr
race, along with a number of pro ASBK riders getting track time in.

The 600cc race with the Superbikes as there isnt enough numbers to warrant their own race. Funny thing a 600cc wins out right in the superbike.

Cost wise its just as expensive to race a 600cc here as a 1000cc so thats what most people do.

Same here, our Lightweight GP class is PACKED! We allow singles and twins up to 500cc and everyone wants to be a part of it. At the track we were at last weekend (Motorsports Park Hastings) the guy who won the Lightweight race on a Ninja 300 ran a 1:38 lap time, with the guy who won the Superbike GP Expert race running a 1:33. That's a 2.1 mile 13-turn track, and a Ninja 300 ran just 5 seconds off an S1000RR with a good rider on board. The Ninja 300 rider had his R6 crap out on him and ran his 300 in the Superbike race and got 3rd place on it. Tell me that doesn't sound like the most fun you could possibly have! You can watch Chaz on TV flogging the crap out of his Panigale and only a very small handful of riders will ever be able to ride a big bike that hard, but many more of us can ride a tiny bike that hard.
