OP: Are you sure that's for the second service? Here's from my dealer before I purchased the Pani:

the first service for the Panigale goes for $235.95 and the service after that is around (7500) is 232.28. The 18k would be around 900 or so, depending on what's needed during that time.

Sounds like the 3rd service you are referring to?
 
valves are checked at 15k miles, as is the remove of the sump pan (and header pipes) to clean the mesh filter. This is a big service. (maint specs start page 237 of US owner's manual)

The 7500 mile service shouldn't be more than $300 at most so Ducati San Antonio either doesn't know the maint schedule or they misspoke.

I think your right. I think they looked at the 15k not the 7500. I will call back and see if they had it right. I sort of threw up in my mouth when he said 980. I thought the first one was bad but hopefully they had it wrong. I figure once I get the manual out and see what is actually involved, it will be more along the same lines as the 1st service.
 
I know for the 7500 mile service in the manual it states to inspect the air filter. If the tank needs to come off should we just have them replace the air filter?

I wish my 1st service had been 235.... it was $341.48

I checked back and VDSV is still not even a glimmer of hope at this time according to the owner.

Any word on a service manual with torque specs that you guys have heard about?
 
Those hours are not at all out of line for the 15k service. Just to clean the mesh filter entails removing the exhaust to get the sump cover off.

Add doing the valves, etc, yep I don't see that as out of line at all.

It's why you see a lot of 4 valve ducatis for sale when the mileage starts to approach a major service. 15k is wonderful, on my 996 valves had to be checked every 6k miles and also recommended a valve check at the first 600 mile service. And this was with the non testastretta heads that we have on the pani, a lot tougher job.

Newcomers to ducati don't know what they've missed!

Coming from a Beemer, I think the heads are welded on, they never need to come off! :p

Read error memory with DDS2.0 and check whether any update is available
Check whether there are technical updates and recall campaigns
Change engine oil and filter
*Clean Air Filter
*Check clutch cover and clutch protection cover bolts
Check brake and clutch levels
Check brake pads and replace as necessary
Check brake caliper bolts and brake disk carrier bolts
Check front and rear wheel nuts tightening
Check proper tightening of secondary drive front and rear sprocket nuts
check chain sliders for wear
Check the drive chain tension and lubrication
Visually check the front fork and rear shock absorber seals
*check the proper tightening of the frame to engine fasteners
Check the freedom of movement and tightening of the side stand
*Visually check the fuel lines
Check rubbing points, clearance, freedom of movement and routing of the flexible cables and electric wiring
*Lubricate the levers at the handlebar and pedal controls
Check the coolant level
Check the electric fan operation
Check rire pressure and wear
Check the batter charge level
Check idling
Check the operation of all electric safety devices
Check the indicators and lighting
Reset the service indication with the DDS2.0
Road test the motorcycle testing the safety devices
Clean the motorcycle
Fill out the warrant certificate and service data

That's not much for $400 or so. I'll see what mine is with my own filters and oil. I'm at 6000 now.

F..., you should see what some of the Desmo boys drop on a major service, I saw a thread a while back where one chap was out $10 grand for a service !

Expect service prices to go up as service intervals go down. Dealers made a lot of their profits thru their service depts and that source of revenue for them is diminishing as ducati comes into more reasonable maintenance intervals. I think some middle ground needs to be found on that. They need to be profitable, but the old dealer wallet-.... model isn't going to work well for them going forward IMHO.

I think dealers could make some of this back by offering some services like dialing in suspensions and other more advanced bike setups. I can't find much pity for my local dealer complaining about maintenance revenues dropping when I've specifically asked him if they've tried new gearing on their demo yet or gotten no reply when I've asked on dialing in suspension. It seems they just want the easy money, not to market other potential areas of revenue that are value based and require more advanced knowledge.

That does seem very high mavic. Do you have another reputable dealer locally or nearby?
 
My 7500 Mile Service (including oil/filter), was ~$300 if I recall (Toronto). I think the confusion here might be regarding which service is called the "Second". The second major servicing is at 15K, but technically that's the third service. Whoever quoted $1k was probably quoting that service interval.

I'll be at 15k in Dec., and will most likely be back at Newport Beach Ducati for it.

Oil Service 1000 is the first service.

They rec. coolant change and fork fluid changes every 36 months. The Desmo service is every 15k.

I believe they will even post a flat rate time sheet for customers so you will know what the actual time charges should be.

Nope..stock oem Airfilter is paper. The Super restricted kind. I replaced mine with a BMC airfilter that is Cotton Pleated Gauze type...similar to a K&N airfilter.

Bike breathes a lot better now. Had my dealer replace my airfilter. I have 6,800Kms/4,250miles. We use kilometers being Euro version models.

Best to order the BMC Airfilter and when you're scheduled for a dealer service...have them replace your airfilter...
