Just had to provide a quick update on my 7,500 mile service quote. BH Ducati said I would need to leave the bike all day and expect 8 hours @ $120/hr! Thanks to you guys I "educated" them on what is actually done and s/b less than 2 hours. I have to tell you that I think these guys have no clue and just quick to ask for the $$$$$$. What a joke.

This is on a 1199..Right???

was just quoted $479 for the first service at 600. Crooks at A&S ducati in Roseville Ca

Ill be buying the filter myself and replacing oil and checking chain tension.

That service message can remain for almost 500 bucks

I was able to negotiate the first service for "free" when I bought my bike. It didn't really feel like he was sweetening the deal by much until I saw the service invoice. Felt nice seeing >$300 crossed out at the bottom.

Steve I didn't know you were near gold coast thought you were in cali we gotta set up a ride man ! And all the dealers in the tristate area are trash ...

I'll second that Gold Coast Motorsports is horrible. I'll never spend another penny in there again. They're the absolute worst.

Was talking to my service Tech that just got back from school on 1199 and the 15k service would be around 30 hours if the valves needed to be shimmed since the bike has to be taken completely down to get to the heads and do the work. He said it was only the intake valves I do believe.

If the valves are all right then the service is not bad. But 30 hours to take the bike apart to get to the valves and then put it all back together, holy crap!!!

I'm curious if a "timing chain" tension is even needed, dont these bikes have an automatic chain tensioner?

I havan't checked the valves myself yet, but it seems like you have plenty of room to take off the valve cover once the subframe, tank, and radiator is removed, all not very too complicated tasks

First service free;),work it out as part a the purchase deal second service 156.00:D the third service is do soon the quote was 720.00 plus parts. But I have both valve covers gaskets are leaking, shields on the muffler are being replaced after coming loose 6 times they are to damage to tighten up any more.

Where in Canada are you and getting those service prices?

How are all these different dealers charging different rates, shouldn't Ducati have listed "book times" like Alldata for cars. I can see a few dollars difference between dealers for different hourly rates but 100's to 1k's different between dealers sounds like Duc is letting these places roll a little too on their own.

I may have missed it in the manual buts what is retorqued with the first and second service? Or do they just stare at a few things and say, yep, its tight.

Someone bought a base later in the day I bought my S, the following weekend his shifter lever loosened and fell off the bike. Opps!

a $20 bill in the hands of the mechanic every now and then for little things can save you money in the long run ;)

I'm budgeting around $400 for the 7K miles service and around $1400 for the 15K service. I hope that will cover it!

That's what I'm looking at as well, give or take. This is a good article I've found in regards of the 1098. Keeping them Honest- 1098 Maintenance Costs Exposed what you don't know will cost you - Featured News

Here is the highlight of the article. Service break down cost.

600 mile service - $144.38
7500 mile service - $ 256.88
15000 mile service - $ 362.20
After 7500 mile Valve service ("Service A") - $ 294.80
After 15000 mile Valve service ("Service B") - $366.30

You will never have fixed pricing, the best you can hope for is estimated hours per service,
As with cars, then their are always be unforeseen issues. I've been in the Euro exotic
car & bike service repair & building for over 20 years every business & location has it's own
cost of doing business. On the rare occasions I do pay for another party to work
On my vehicles I would rather pay a higher price for a job well done than go cheap and have problems with service quality
