I really do like the Akra, even though I can't afford one. But I am mystified on why they won this award. The basic design of the exhaust that Akrapovic had to follow is by Ducati, who engineered the 1199. So "groundbreaking design" is a bit specious IMHO.
Yes, it is superior in materials, craftsmanship and design (due to its higher performance) than the OEM or Termignoni offerings. I would like to understand the award criteria better and see what the competition was like. It seems hard to believe that 4,800 other products didn't represent more of a design advance in their respective categories. Seriously, besides the badges and carbon end pieces, I think most non-motorcyclists would have a difficult time noticing the differences between Akra, OEM and Termi pipes/cans.
