Just picked up my 1199 R last month. Ran it in using a standard 1199 exhaust loaned from my dealer. They then fitted the Akra system on first service. Wow, just f*cking wow, this thing is awesome.
When I bought the system my intention was to put it on my 1199 S. Before I had it installed I made the decision to upgrade to the 1199 R. Knowing I would put the Akrapovic system on the R, I went off to ask my dealer a couple of things about it and the Termi's.
Basically I had the Akra system installed using the 1199 R standard/Termi system up-map. The Termi is still brand new and in a box ready to sell, plus my dealer has handed me a spare Termi system up-map key so it will go as a complete system. With this in mind the Akra cost me £3000.00 (GBP) and I think as a complete unit I can reclaim £2000.00 by selling the Termi's. In reality the Akra system has only cost me £1000.00
for something which is clearly superior, period.
However, I haven't done that many miles with it so can't say too much but I do now have to give a little throttle or the engine takes a few more cycles to fire up (from cold only though).
When having this thing installed, make sure they/you wipe it down with something like WD40 etc. before starting as I have had to polish out some marks/finger prints left from the fitting (Thanks for that) after telling them too!
Don't wrap it! This thing looks beautiful and is blueing up nicely, why cover that?! But yes, this thing is hotter! The heat shield is a lot smaller and neater. The engine temp. has remained the same but obviously with more exhaust exposed there will aways be more heat. This is the compromise. Personally the heat was never an issue for me, but that's easy foy me to say as the temperatures in the UK are lower so it won't affect me as much.
Haven't had this thing noise tested for track days yet, but it doesn't seem too offensive even with the baffles out. Yet, I'm sorry Termi guys, without a doubt this sounds so much better. It almost gives the engine a slightly higher pitched note at high revs/full throttle but maintains that low grumble when slowing and on engine breaking with the odd pop and bang still getting thrown in for grins!
Also, seems very smooth with no fuelling issues when hard pushed, idle etc. The fuel economy doesn't appear to have been affected either. I will soon get this dyno'd and post the results along with some video hopefully....... but I'm stuck on an oil rig for the next 10 days because exhausts and 1199 R's aren't cheap and don't come for free!!
