No wrap. Just what came in the box. I am in the process of having my melted lower right fairing replaced and will put some of that heat tape (forgot the brand) on the inside of the fairing to prevent from melting. That's about it.

i had the termi slips installed over the weekend and i am happy to say they make a nice difference. i like the deeper notes it gives off and i also noticed a difference in the low end.

looking forward to the akra videos. for god sake, please do them outdoors and not so close to the actual bike!

Interesting. I sort of remember something about Ti having different heat-dissipating characteristics than steel. Perhaps the full Ti headers have a role in mitigating some of the heat felt by the rider?

That's the line I was fed as well, my chemistry courses are well behind me, however.

For those of you already running Akras, are you guys using exhaust wrap on the header pipe or did you just upgrade to the newer stock heat shield / carbon heat shield?

Am wondering what would work out best to address the heat issues that have been discussed at length here and since they seem to run hotter than the Termis I wanted to have all bases covered..

Apparently your mileage may vary. I feel like mine runs cooler than stock, others seem to think it runs hotter. From a temp standpoint, mine is consistently 5-10 lower than where it was (even when sitting in traffic).

Can't remember who said it on here, but it was very clear that you DO NOT wrap full-Ti headers. It will break them.

Just picked up my 1199 R last month. Ran it in using a standard 1199 exhaust loaned from my dealer. They then fitted the Akra system on first service. Wow, just f*cking wow, this thing is awesome.

When I bought the system my intention was to put it on my 1199 S. Before I had it installed I made the decision to upgrade to the 1199 R. Knowing I would put the Akrapovic system on the R, I went off to ask my dealer a couple of things about it and the Termi's.

Basically I had the Akra system installed using the 1199 R standard/Termi system up-map. The Termi is still brand new and in a box ready to sell, plus my dealer has handed me a spare Termi system up-map key so it will go as a complete system. With this in mind the Akra cost me £3000.00 (GBP) and I think as a complete unit I can reclaim £2000.00 by selling the Termi's. In reality the Akra system has only cost me £1000.00 ;) for something which is clearly superior, period.

However, I haven't done that many miles with it so can't say too much but I do now have to give a little throttle or the engine takes a few more cycles to fire up (from cold only though).

When having this thing installed, make sure they/you wipe it down with something like WD40 etc. before starting as I have had to polish out some marks/finger prints left from the fitting (Thanks for that) after telling them too!

Don't wrap it! This thing looks beautiful and is blueing up nicely, why cover that?! But yes, this thing is hotter! The heat shield is a lot smaller and neater. The engine temp. has remained the same but obviously with more exhaust exposed there will aways be more heat. This is the compromise. Personally the heat was never an issue for me, but that's easy foy me to say as the temperatures in the UK are lower so it won't affect me as much.

Haven't had this thing noise tested for track days yet, but it doesn't seem too offensive even with the baffles out. Yet, I'm sorry Termi guys, without a doubt this sounds so much better. It almost gives the engine a slightly higher pitched note at high revs/full throttle but maintains that low grumble when slowing and on engine breaking with the odd pop and bang still getting thrown in for grins!

Also, seems very smooth with no fuelling issues when hard pushed, idle etc. The fuel economy doesn't appear to have been affected either. I will soon get this dyno'd and post the results along with some video hopefully....... but I'm stuck on an oil rig for the next 10 days because exhausts and 1199 R's aren't cheap and don't come for free!! :D

Maybe sunshinestate can make the Panigale's at the Dragon meet in May. I really want to hear the difference between them and your OEM can-mod, as yours is far deeper-sounding than the Termi's.

I'm still saving some extra funds to send you my OEM cans sitting on the shelf in my garage. Did you ever find a local powder-coater or find out what it costs to get the cans jet-hot coated? I'm lazy and want to send it to you and get it back ready to bolt-on, all blacked out.

DON"T forget to start saving up for the Rapid Bike system:cool:, we getting serious with them as far as gettting them to come to Orlando for a formal training and becoming a USA Dist/Dealer. ;)

I will not cut corners or spare expense on this bike. this Duc was my personal present for 3 years of back surgery and not being able to ride for recovery purposes. I plan on doing 600 mile service tues of next week and sending ECU out on Saturday to rapid bike and have it back weds or thurs with some overnight costs. I'm going to do some exhaust videos this evening with the akras installed. I already heard it idle and love it. Just remember guys i don't have that larger engine as you all do but it will still be somewhat of a gauge for you all to hear and compare to termis.

Where are you sending out the ECU for Rapidbike? I would strongly suggest YTURAN above, he is an 1199 owner and very experienced performance shop owner in Orlando that bought his own Rapidbike module, had the Rexxer flash done and has been tinkering with it in-between track sessions and road riding. His shop is The Cycle Pro in Orlando:

Orlando Motorcycle Shop - Parts and Service | Cycle Pro Orlando, FL

If you have his number will you pm it to me? I think you had me call him once before not sure if it's the same guy. I was going to thread what I should do ECU wise.. Rexxer..rapidbike,tuneboy ect... Honestly the only reason I don't want to rexxer is because Dave is a straight up liar and I don't want him gaining money from me.

Who's Dave? One of the few shops around here that will actually tune bikes recommends the Rexxer setup. I wanted to go with tune boy but not sure I want to go that route if there aren't any people around here that know how to use it.

What problem did you have with him? I have sent him bunch of emails and most of them were probably very stupid for him but he answered to all of them. He made my tune for Akrapovic and only thing i could say that at the moment my bike is flying on a track. Have to say im not riding my bike on a road so dont know how he behaves there

He attempted to sell me the akra full system at 4000 plus. i told him motomummy had it at 3500 even. He claimed that was an older version that had cracking issues and a bunch of other BS just blowing smoke up my ass. I may not know bikes as well as most of you but I'm no ....... sucker. I emailed akra and they said his claim was false. even if it were true it has a warranty. He can kiss my ass. Nothing but a ........ artist. ............ Sorry guys nothing pisses me off more then dishonest people. I was raised differently perhaps. honesty is the key. I ....... hate people who lie.

Even Jarel on the site was selling the akra at 3499.95$ So I guess he was implying you were selling faulty akras too jarel.

Sounds sketchy. I went through RevZilla, they price match ;)

My apologies for my language and putting DAVID down gentlemen. I called revzilla about what he claimed with the exhaust and they to said never heard a thing about a faulty akra exhaust, And the same with my buddy at shift tech. Bunch of malarkey out of his mouth. But whatever. I got my akra at a good price and I'm a satisfied customer.

Although I'm in love with the look n sound of this exhaust, had I not gotten this for $3395 from bellisimoto before the price increase, I probably wouldn't have purchased it. That's already a ton of money and can be justified by most when most places don't sell termis new for much less than $3k so the $400-$500 difference was more than worth it. At the current prices, not so much.

I'm more interested in seeing how Ducati is going to deal with this exhaust from a warranty standpoint moving forward. One of my local dealers had already made an attempt to deny my warranty claim of my melted lower fairing even though my pipes had not even changed colors yet which indicated that it was freshly installed and the melting was caused by the stock exhaust. After some back n forth over it, they are replacing it. Hopefully an upmap type of thing is released officially via Ducati and maybe we'll be covered regardless of relationship with a dealer.

Given Ducatis new found relationship with Akra it has to come I would think.... But Ducati move slowly..historically... so be patient...;)
