i still want to know where ATXDUC got 2k off list for a 1299???
Why not be a pal and just tell us who gave you this great deal?

Pick up the phone and start calling around. There are dealers all over the US (note it's freezing in some areas and better place to buy than sunny areas--even with bike shipping you save $).
Net/net it's always a diamond in the rough and how YOU handle the conversation. If you call and talk to floor salespeople, you're not going to get anywhere. Some dealers may tell you 'all deposits' sold, some with tell you they haven't sold one yet. Just have to work the deal my friend and not be desperate. All the bikes are starting to show up late April, so go have some fun and get a good deal.
Phone is your friend...
WOW
I never thought of that so i followed your advice and i'm now getting $8k off list and they are throwing in a goat.
BTW i am not telling any of you fools where you can get this deal so do your own homework.

didn't think this topic was going to stir up so much conflict. My comment about going to pick the bike up on friday was more towards burncycle's comment of it not being a chevy truck. No hard feelings against him, but to each their own, i did get another 1k off on my deal.
I tried to talk to my salesman about the 1299, personally the 1199 fit my budget better. He said that its going to be a hot item and people will buy it regardless of getting a "deal" or not. I mean...its true, look how many guys purchased the 1199 when it first came out, i mean i'm sure the dealer negotiated some what. Don't get me wrong, the features on the 1299 are sick, the lean angle on the dash alone is nasty, i can already foresee some competition amongst forum members for bragging rights. Although at my skill level, i know i will not miss those features. The overall package is going to be a huge step up from the 848evo.
Look forward to posting some pic's after home-coming and becoming a frequent user of the board. 1st mod- removing that christmas tree off the rear tail. I studied it at the dealer and i'm pretty sure i can mold a plate that covers the current mounting point to tuck the plate.
Do you think they will give everyone that deal--no. I go through this everytime I get a great deal and everyone wants the easy way out. Start calling...it's not hard, but you have to be a good negotiator. If you're not willing to put in the time or effort it won't happen. Good luck in your quest.
I don't really care either way. I have nothing to prove to a forum, just my bank account.
But here are some tips:
1) Buy with cash
2) Find a dealer that doesn't have one sold/hold yet
3) If it were me I'd search cold climates
4) Talk with manager and be ready to buy if you strike your deal--no backing out
5) If you are not a good negotiator then none of this will matter
6) You will need to put time and effort into it
7) Remember dealers want to keep as much money in their pockets--you need to think the same way
I'm done with this post--so good luck and just know deals can be had.
Buying in cash will get you in hot water with IRS as the dealer has to report cash sales over $10K.
The salesman is trying to move the older 1199 before the 1299 hits the shelves. Non-the-less, enjoy your 1199 its an amazing bike, but notwithout some flaws to say the least.
Totally up to you, but if I was shopping for an 1199 I would have waited a little longer until the 1299 hits. The 1199 is about to be that much harder to sell with a "new & improved" 1299 on the market. In the end it would make a better deal for you IMO

Why does the IRS care if you pay cash?
