Am I getting a good deal on this 1199 S?

Help Support Ducati Forum:

i still want to know where ATXDUC got 2k off list for a 1299???

Pick up the phone and start calling around. There are dealers all over the US (note it's freezing in some areas and better place to buy than sunny areas--even with bike shipping you save $).

Net/net it's always a diamond in the rough and how YOU handle the conversation. If you call and talk to floor salespeople, you're not going to get anywhere. Some dealers may tell you 'all deposits' sold, some with tell you they haven't sold one yet. Just have to work the deal my friend and not be desperate. All the bikes are starting to show up late April, so go have some fun and get a good deal.

Phone is your friend...

Why not be a pal and just tell us who gave you this great deal?

Do you think they will give everyone that deal--no. I go through this everytime I get a great deal and everyone wants the easy way out. Start calling...it's not hard, but you have to be a good negotiator. If you're not willing to put in the time or effort it won't happen. Good luck in your quest.

I don't really care either way. I have nothing to prove to a forum, just my bank account.

But here are some tips:

1) Buy with cash
2) Find a dealer that doesn't have one sold/hold yet
3) If it were me I'd search cold climates
4) Talk with manager and be ready to buy if you strike your deal--no backing out
5) If you are not a good negotiator then none of this will matter
6) You will need to put time and effort into it
7) Remember dealers want to keep as much money in their pockets--you need to think the same way

I'm done with this post--so good luck and just know deals can be had.

Sounds like a fair deal to me. They're giving you $7500 for the 848, and going though all the headaches of selling it. And the price is fair on the 1199S.

Could you find a better deal. Sure. And a better deal with trade of a obsolete bike? Maybe, good luck. But low ball deals have low ball service.

In this case, it sounds fair. Not a rip off or anything. If you sweat every $1000, this is the wrong hobby LOLz.

I couldn't. My deal was an "inside job". Techs knowing techs knowing techs. Some of my good deals, I'm not supposed to loud mouth about. "If it's easy to get huge deals on year old bikes, who'd buy the new models?"

They had a brand new, but dusty, 2012 Panigale sitting on the showroom floor as the 2014 models were rolling in. IIRC, was about $3000 off. Loving the bike. No problems so far. (turn signal harness and charcoal can delete don't count)

WOW

I never thought of that so i followed your advice and i'm now getting $8k off list and they are throwing in a goat.

BTW i am not telling any of you fools where you can get this deal so do your own homework.

Man congrats on getting a panigale! 1199, 1199r, 1299 it's all good. I watched a guy lap within 10 seconds of Casey Stoner on a stock '12 model S. And he did it within three laps of ever getting on a Pani. My point? Is that if your fast your fast and the ....... Displacement won't make a difference. Your going to find a lot of blow hards here that talking quicker than their lap times.

I would like to have a 2015 1199R but my '13 is fine. Having the latest and greatest means your either sponsored, or spoiled....lol.

You know why you got a great deal? Cause their are a bunch of used second hand parts that are cheap now and you can ride your bike hard and actually learn to ride fast without fear of not being able to fix it when you fling it down the road.

1299?......yeah it's nice but watching their owners get lapped by a guy on an 899 is worth the trade in you got for your 848...lol.

Enjoy it, love it .... everyone else.

You got a goat? Dang, mine just gave me a ferret, and I have no idea where it is now :(

didn't think this topic was going to stir up so much conflict. My comment about going to pick the bike up on friday was more towards burncycle's comment of it not being a chevy truck. No hard feelings against him, but to each their own, i did get another 1k off on my deal.

I tried to talk to my salesman about the 1299, personally the 1199 fit my budget better. He said that its going to be a hot item and people will buy it regardless of getting a "deal" or not. I mean...its true, look how many guys purchased the 1199 when it first came out, i mean i'm sure the dealer negotiated some what. Don't get me wrong, the features on the 1299 are sick, the lean angle on the dash alone is nasty, i can already foresee some competition amongst forum members for bragging rights. Although at my skill level, i know i will not miss those features. The overall package is going to be a huge step up from the 848evo.

Look forward to posting some pic's after home-coming and becoming a frequent user of the board. 1st mod- removing that christmas tree off the rear tail. I studied it at the dealer and i'm pretty sure i can mold a plate that covers the current mounting point to tuck the plate.

Buying in cash will get you in hot water with IRS as the dealer has to report cash sales over $10K.

The salesman is trying to move the older 1199 before the 1299 hits the shelves. Non-the-less, enjoy your 1199 its an amazing bike, but notwithout some flaws to say the least.

Totally up to you, but if I was shopping for an 1199 I would have waited a little longer until the 1299 hits. The 1199 is about to be that much harder to sell with a "new & improved" 1299 on the market. In the end it would make a better deal for you IMO

And yet is any bike without flaw? You need only listen to a few post-race MotoGP or WorldSBK interviews to see that higher price tags and later manufacturing dates do not guarantee a rider/machine synergistic effect.

The connection between man and machine is far more important than what's listed on a spec sheet. My advice: Find the bike you connect with, master it to your potential, and enjoy every minute of it while the valley ....... fuss over depreciation and who has what.

Congrats to the buyer.

Good deal on the bike and good value on your trade. I'd take it to. And I actually did get mine 1199S at 20k flat before anything else. Didn't know the 1299 was on the way out. Didn't care cuz I was committed. If you like it, get it done. There are more things in life that you can use the grey matter for. Why lose a sleep over this?
