Anniversario vs Panigale R

Some great feedback guys. I love the passion too. TJ I was all set to buy the R. Now I'm back on the fence. Some great arguments on both sides. Also for the record, I am the guy who would daily drive a gt3rs over a base 911. That's mostly because I couldn't see myself buying a base carerra (not because the RS is a better street car). Btw, don't even get me started on cars!!

So I've ruled out the used 1299s. Even though that's an amazing bike both to ride and look at I do think I'd be kicking myself every time I went to the garage. So I've complicated things because I'm choosing between a used bike and a new one. Maybe I should just sit tight for now, wait until the anniversary models hit the used market and start flogging the Desmo. That always brings a smile to my face!

Might as well put in my €.02 too. As others have already said quite correctly "it all depends what you want." But I'll give you some info that may help.

Since you're comparing it to used bikes, there's no way the Anniversario makes sense. So just throw that one out of your consideration.

Now for the used 1299S vs. the used Pani R. The 1299 is a solid, solid bike, it would be my own personal choice. It's also faster than the Pani R due to its monster torque. Yes everyone, you read that right, a 1299 beats a Pani R. Further it can be flashed with better traction and wheelie control (EVO) than you'll ever be able to get for the R. It is without doubt the better streetbike. Hell, if you don't need to stay under a displacement limit, it's better on track, too.

But the Pani R, by comparison, has a sharp and immediate racebike character that the 1299 can't match. It's a katana to the 1299's broadsword. You have a D16RR, you understand what I mean. Have you seen the internals of the SL's engine, with the tungsten-balanced crankshaft and SBK-spec 2-ring pistons? Same as in the R. It spins up with a lightning quick character that only lightweight engine internals can give. The R also comes with the full ti Akra exhaust which is the ....

I like all the Panigales and ....!

Love all these people commenting on the R as a street bike when they've never even put their leg over one.

Try being well informed instead of just opinionated

The R is great as a street bike and does everything just as well as the 1299. It comes down to personal preference and riding style etc. Neither of these bikes are for everyone.

If you want something a little special/different for limited miles, wow factor and something that will truly put a grin on your face every time you ride, get the R, accept no substitute

Now can we change the record over the whole which is better on the street
Agreed, love mine...........

Well you better buy that damn R, before I do...! :D That is one great price for a used 2015 R!

Thanks! And don't get me wrong...if I were personally choosing between a NEW Anniversario and a NEW Pani R (with the accompanying prices) like you, I'd take the Anniversario all day every day and never regret it.

Your Welcome.

$44kAUD for the Anni or $49kAUD for the R, on road costs included......Hmmm, that beautiful race engine or that new electronic limited Ed 1299s, with 25 bikes destined for OZ, of course that will change, both bikes look sexy so thats not a factor that can be included.......hard decision !!!

Chaotic + TJ99 quotes sum it up nicely. The 1299 is the bike to get for 99.9% of us.

Agreed...

But I suspect there would be a few days in the time I owned one that I wished it was an R.
So using bloke logic, I'd buy the R to avoid that ever happening.

Get the R. It's almost a Superleggera. To me, that's more special than a limited (standard) edition with a pretty livery. Plus you're being offered an awesome deal, if you don't mind buying used.

You want a nice face or a nice ...? You're not getting both so pick one. Actually you're getting a little of both but the outstanding stuff is exclusive of each other.

Haha! Now that is some good advice! But which one's which? Nice face = Anniv; Nice ... = R?

I ultimately couldn't decide so went with BOTH. Picked up the R last week and put the deposit down on the Anniversario.

The R needed a fresh set of tires which just went on so taking it easy this first week, but already I'm seriously impressed. It's an incredible piece of kit and a noticeably different animal than my '13R.

I'll post up some pics today or tomorrow.

Thanks for all the feedback guys!

You are my actual hero at this moment :) Definitely the best choice! I haven't rode the earlier R but the latest R is an incredible machine. I never understood why people spent so much money on engine internals until I got this bike. Even when near the red line in sixth gear it still feels as light as a normal bike at half the speed. I'm completely in love with it!

Hero? Not so much. :) But infected with the Ducati bug. YES!!

Here's a quick pic with her stable mate. Need to change out that tail and finish scrubbing in the tires. Then see what she can really do!!!

love the Desmo especially with the GP exhaust.

I have almost bought one a few times and for various reasons it has not worked out but man they really do look great especially in that color combo.

A Desmosedici and Panigale R...................dream world....................congrats!!! They look absolutely beautiful together.

Amicable choices no doubt,
... I suspect your R will outperform your RR, and not just in the handling/ nimbleness ...
