I'm looking to do my bi-annual trip from NY down to the Tail of the Dragon and a friend was talking about trying the "Back of the Dragon".
Does anyone have any experience here or recommendations?

Yes I've do it a couple of times, fun road. Just be careful up near Tazewell, lots of coal mining and they drop an almost invisible coal dust on the road which can be a bit slick.

I‘ve only done 129, but 28 from walhalla is my way up there. ;)

Ran cherohala once in the rain, with 2” standing water and 40 degrees F. That sucked a bit

Phl, I too did Cherohola in the rain. Worst ride ever. I girl that rode with us went down on a hard low side wipe out when the water run off was also pulling the rocks out of the shoulder and onto the road. A recipe for disaster. Glad she escaped with a badly bruised shoulder. I was in front on a Harley and almost lost it too. Amazed I didn't go down too.
