Hi!

Waiting for the base model. Anyone got one yet? Here in Norway the S and the Tri is already out in the public, but no base yet

T

I've been told mines about a week away the dealer was invoiced for the bike couple of weeks ago- that normally (?!?) means three weeks to delivery to dealer from their experience, latest story is some hold up on the head light units as they are different to the S and Tri being non LED.

We will see!!

its gonna be funny because all of the hype built around the S....what if they do a review on the base and it turns up to really be lighter with faster times around the track, top speed etc....they is gonna be alot of S owners upset!

Don't worry about that, the Base has been suitably knobbled with a set of tragically heavy wheels.

I think they're made by Brembo, with the entire package being something like >3kg heavier than the Marchesini's.

Remember, thats unsprung weight, so will really slow handling in every direction.

Will see if I can find the exact numbers again.

They are made by Enkei. And you are right, much heaver unsprung weight.

2.1Kg to be exact, at least as far as published specs:

So the cast base wheels will be 4.6lb heavier in old money (8.2Kg/18lbs the pair vs 6.1Kg/13.4lbs), so definitely noticeable at speed vs the forged Marchesinis. Biggest advantage of the S over the base in my book, at least until we see some feedback on the Marzocchi/Sachs suspension units.

By my crude math, that's like a 35% weight increase, over S wheels

While I agree it's an easy fix, it certainly isn't cheep.

Throw the slip-ons into the equation and your fast approaching S money I believe.

...... and don't even get me started on the front mudguard :D

I'm pretty sure that's total, not each. The front and rear wouldn't weigh the same.

Interesting Xbox BUT the LED headlight is considerably heavier than the Std model.
1199 S Wet weight 188kg (414.5lb)
1199 ABS Wet weight 188kg (414.5lb)
info from Ducati website.
So it looks like they add up to the same weight.

Yup, but the wheels are unsprung mass, so some additional penalty to be had, even though they weigh in the same.

Don't get me wrong, I originally selected the Base+ABS model, so am not knocking it.

Very difficult decision for me to change, given cost difference and kit, but delivery time finally tipped it for me:)

Oh yes, if i`d known how long it would have taken I would have gone for an S as well!!!
it`ll be worth the wait :D Plus I do get to ride the S demonstrator

Published specs are a good starting point, but just as with dyno runs, it'll be good to see some customer equipment go on the scales. Ducati are saying 6.1kg for the S wheels, but that's quite a bit under what Marchesini claims for either their aftermarket Kompe street or Kompe R race forged AL wheels, and even a good Kg+ less than their forged mags. That's BST territory, or darn near it.

Someone with an S go first and put it on the scale!

And when you slap some track body work on it the headlight stays off anyway. :D

Too true, I would be out on it now clocking the miles up before the 600 mile service and full system fitting
I just can`t afford the S at present
Haha, see if you didn't work for an award winning dealership, they would have probably just let you have the next punters S model scoot :eek:

j/k :p:p:p
