I have owned both a 2010 RSV4 (non factory) and now have the 1199. both are unique in their own ways and quite different experiences. the Aprilia had a bit more finesse and was smoother and easier to ride on the street (which is where I spend all of my riding time) where the 1199 is a brute force type of ride.
my humble opinion to the OP says you would be taking a step back with the RSV4...it is essentially a 2009 design upgraded with electronics and tweaks here and there. It was and is a stunning motorcycle but unless your 1199 just pisses you off unmercifully I would keep it and sell or trade for a newly designed Aprilia if one is indeed on the horizon.
I also think that with Audi hopefully injecting some business leadership and money into Ducati that any real issues will get fixed. Most of the gripes have been addressed from what I can tell. And the 41T sprocket and new map make a huge difference in rideability. And I know beauty is in the eye of the beholder but the Pani is just the best looking bike out there bar none IMO.
