yes there was ex race manager for some Aprilia team that stated AR pipes always failed and blew apart....

I seem to remember some longevity issues being mentioned previously with regards to AR pipes???

It's a PITA I agree, and it does seem like BS for something like this to happen but I'm going to keep the pipe because I still prefer the aesthetic, the sound, and the bike is running better than ever thanks to the tuning work of ProTwin and the Tuneboy software. Initially I considered swapping back to the Termi slips but I quickly realised that I genuinely didn't want to. If something else were to fail then it would be a different story but for now I'm lovin the sound of this visceral monster (or at least I will be when I get it back on the road/track),

You're a patient man:D Glad you're happy with it (or will be once its sorted). You've definitely earned the right to be satisfied after this whole process.

It's a great sounding system, most likely the best to date as it really gives that raw power sound of the mean twin. But 3.5K for an open pipe?!? I'm very familiar with inconel as my AR15 rifle suppressor is made from it. It's expensive and hard to work with but that price point seems a tad high. I could swallow 2K for a system that comes without a filter/ecu like the termi does but 3.5k just seems a tad steep. I'm I alone on this? I completely understand the driving force of exclusivity and hand built craftsmanship so I'll keep a close eye on this thread and make up my mind later.

To the OP, thanks for the thread and dyno numbers!

Ye I refer to that a couple of times across the various threads, the pipe isn't actually making the sound, rather its freeing it up. The Bunbury 1199 drag bike sounded similar with just Termi header and no mufflers.

Its a bit more than a straight through pipe (like my old Harley pipes) but it follows the Termi design pretty close, and has a couple of baffles - I'm running with one and we are going to re-pack to tune the sound. We're also experimenting with reversing the orientation of the baffle to run the left hand baffle in reverse on the right side.

I think the price of ALL these systems is too high. In Australia the full Termi system is $4.8k and the Akra will be the same, and any of them will require tuning to extract the best as they are all 'big bore, straight through'. On that basis the AR is a contender.

With some more tuning we are finding more power (top & mid range) and much better fuelling - to the point where it looks like we will have reclaimed the mid-range we lost from the Slips but kept the increased power advantage higher up, and much greater stonk on half throttle. Just need that bloody broken section back so we can switch the baffles and finish up this project! We will also do a comparo with the Termi full system that's on the race bike ProTwin are maintaining so we keep things in perspective.

Wind your necks in you sad austin haters!!!

I raced for many a year using many exhaust systems, Akrapovich, Yoshi, Arrow and in my twilight years I ran austin

I can tell you the austin kit is superb quality and never once failed me or my fellow team mates. I never heard any complaints or bad press.

On the other hand you would find it surprising how many Akrapovich titanium systems cracked and got binned along with blown apart carbon silencers.

A bracket modification on that system is a simple progression to the part that I for 1 am certain will be offered to owners.
I checked out my order with austin and sure enough that bracket has been updated.

Your experience is certainly as valid as any other. But you not having issues does not negate the numerous reports of those who have. Why the need to attack site members and defend a company/product so strongly?

Thanks for your insight, but with some people here it's like religion or politics, better not discuss it...

I don't hate the product, and haven't poste here for weeks! Why are you stirring? I hate how it was presented by AR, and how every other exhaust was slammed by them. Now that the most dynoed ever AR pipe failed, I have my doubts of Inconel in cycle exhaust - but I don't hate it! Stick to the bike/products, stopping attacking people.

When I see continuous attacking of a top class company especially when I deal with said company and have done for the past 4 years I will defend that company. austin build top class product as good and better than the opposition.
The childish comments from a few troublesome members simply lower the quality of the forum. I am aware members left the forum due to it.
I will give the children what they deserve as I have all the time in the world now in retirement. Keep it clean or be prepared to get .... thrown back at you.

You have every right to defend your company. But throwing another product under the bus in the process seems like hypocrisy to me. You dismiss the numerous problems people have had with AR products, slam Akra as problematic, then threaten to fire back if anyone criticizes AR. Seems fair:rolleyes:

And anyone who leaves an Internet forum because they don't agree with everything being said will surely not be missed.

We were doing some more tuning of the initial fuelling (pro-bono work from ProTwin as they were experimenting with the existing setup before doing the baffle swap, and btw they extracted another 3-4hp across the mid range and up-top so even on the more conservative dyno its now doing almost 180hp).

When they stripped down to do the swap they found the pipe had cracked around an exhaust bracket weld. AR are replacing that section and they are fabricating a new bracket with a larger contact area as a precaution. I expect to get the new section back in a week or so and AR have responded well.

Hmm, I'll have to check this out. I'm assuming them dyno runs punished the crap out of it.

Surely half a day on the dyno wouldn't punish a pipe enough to break a bracket, much more likely to be our craps roads! When I get the replacement part I'll post the new charts.

...and just think of all the free movies those departed members missed...:D

I couldn't agree more here... Anyone who doesn't want or accept debates about what has proven to be a questionable product isnt someone who needs to be on a forum... Waf has contributed enormously to the data on this pipe and I thank him for that...but I also sincerely believe that the questions that ensued from his original posts increased this forums knowledge base to a degree that any member that purchases this product is now fully aware of the pros and cons involved...If that isn't a great thing then I am obviously missing the point of a forum...

It is quite coincidental he signed up the day after Rich and Reganc "left", even though they continued to lurk for awhile. He is obviuosly UK, so either Rich sneaking back (he was kicked of another forum as well). or a very close friend or co-worker. No biggy, we can handle it or him if a real person :D

So Burnsy we might as well talk in public now. You clearly ignored the positive things I've said about the AR pipe, including the fact that I genuinely like the pipe and intend to keep it once the new section is returned. If you are a fan or employee of Austin Racing then you are doing them more harm than good by railing against the other members of this forum as you have.
