I am not trying to start a war here with this one at all. Further more i am a very proud owner of an 1199 s ABS and the more i ride it the more i love it. I guess this is more to do with what BMW (motorcycles) does (sort of like a japanese car with all the options included opposed to a german car BMW where everything is an option). I must say I am BMW car guy. I will never drive anything else anymore and I am now a Ducati guy wont get anything else so I dont know why I am writing this but to be totally honest I am a little disappointed in the DUC experience (dont know about the bmw experience never had a bmw bike.)

I just read a first ride about the new HP4 and I was so impressed with it. Unlike when I bought the 1199 nobody rode it and then the reviews came out and they werent that great. Now i know everyone has their opinions and I know where i am posting this so dont go off and bash me.

The HP4 comes with everything. All Ti akra exhaust and active suspension damping system that adjusts to road condition adjustable foot pegs . There are 3 versions of the bike and if you want everything it will be 25k. Thats the same price as an s abs.

I guess my question is why didnt Ducati do this. They were out to change the game and it would have sold so why am I fighting to get a lower fairing with an oil viewer?

PS Its still ugly though lol

Honestly? That's Italian vs German for you. I probably would of opted for the BMW if it came out in May, but it is what it is and I love v-twins.

Don't quote me on this, but I think it would have something to do with economies of scale.
BMW are massive, their factories make heavy use of robotics and I'm guessing that the production numbers for BMW bikes would far outstrip that of Ducati.
Most of the costs associated with Ducati would be due to relatively small production runs and taxes.

hey trans which puig windscreen do you have i think they have a few unless im confused with zero gravity

when i got my 1199 i was on the fence and almost went to the bmw s1000rr i can tell you if this was out and the same money i would have gotten the hp4

little john your probably right. i guess im just annoyed that i needed 2 new fairings already. bottom left due to melting and top left started splitting . both were warrantee items and i had to fight for the oil viewer but i got that too.

Hey i still get the most looks i mean a guy on a desmo stopped and was loving my bike i was like dude you got a desmo i should be doing that to you

I'm german and would take the duc over the beemer any time even if it had 220 HP... well, with audi, okay lets forget that! ;-)

Yes I'd like to have forgdd wheels too- but the rest? The electronic suspension is the same decision like to ths S. But even wit the full akra it just sounds like a loud jap. ...

DUCATI PER SEMPRE

HP4 is a great bike... I sold my 2011 S1000 RR for the 1199. It's all about how the bikes use the power and how use can handle the bike. I'm faster on the 1199 than the S1000RR. Probably a comfort thing. The 1199 is so awesomely narrow and light I just flick and go!

Straight line acceleration? For whatever it's worth, my buddy is in the Youtube video drag racing a on a Yellow S1000RR against a 1199S w/full Termi's. I believe the outcome of that race was somewhat flawed in that the Beemer spanked the 1199 by a wide margin. BMW S1000RR vs Ducati 1199 Panigale S on the highway (HD) - YouTube Then again I know the stock exhaust lays power down better than the full termi with that original poor fueling map. I might have to take a crack at him since I have the stock exhaust and the new map...

thanks trans i had a puig on my zx10r zero gravity has 4 different versions. i like puig better

Hey Mark,
If you like inline four engines and a typical machine built japanese sounding bike then get the BMW and have a nice day. If you prefer a hand-made piece of italian art with a character all its own, then keep your 1199, enjoy the torque and ride with a smile that will never fade. Pick one and make it your own. If you cannot figure it out; buy both!
Additionally, have you had the upmap installed yet? My S made 192 to the gorund with slips and the upmap. The difference is noticable especially from idle to mid-range. The front wheel comes up even easier than before. Next step will be the PCV and a custom tune. I will post the results when done. Good luck with your decision sir.:)

Cheers,
Ducpan

First Mark, you forget, the Ducati is a German bike (Audi, duh!). I am sure the Beemer has all the bells and whistles because it is competing with the Jap bikes, more than anything else. And BMW has been doing tech on their sport bikes for some time (case in point, my K1300S, and all the Ks before). Ducati is THE twin. If you by it, it is because you want that V power, the Ferrari of motorcycles. And guess what, with the right rider, can win the race too!!!

I dare say my K is quite boring now. It is like comparing my X5 to my 911.

I had the S1000rr, not the HP 4 obviously but by the time I finished kitting it out I don't think it would be that different. I was fast on it, and if I'm honest I'm not yet as fast on my 1199 because this bike requires more set-up for me. I can feel I'll be faster with a tweak here and there. And I smile a lot...didn't really smile much with the S1000rr.

No disrespect meant to any of the ladies/countries, but:

Seriously?

And Trauma, don't you think its the Pagani of all bikes? Ferraris are no comparison to a Ducati. That fifth thing we needed was a zonda/huayra.

I meant the perception, being Italian and red and beautiful. That's about it. My favorite explanation of the difference between a Porsche and a Ferrari. They are likened to a whore and a model. You want to show up at the party with the model (Ferrari), but you want to drive the hell out of the Porsche (have sex with the model)!!!

It gets the entire family, dogs included, cross country very fast...

As someone that got very close to getting a Red/White S1KRR, instead of Pani, I can only say that IMO, the HP4 just has very little appeal over the standard model.

Looks wise ..... its just a bit of a mess.

Sure it goes like a missile, great, but IMO BMW can't seem to create any particular race derived kudus behind the HP4 moniker.
