Bye bye 200/55.

well that's great to know. perhaps I should have researched more! I will certainly be going with the 190/55 next! thank you for the info. also, if anyone cares. I passed a radar trap the other day. my bike said 86 and the sign said 80. looks like it throws the speedo off exponentially with more speed. makes perfect sense obviously, just making note.

NP - FYI; my original post had a typo where it said the 190/55 was taller than the 200/55 as quoted above - that was supposed to read 200/50. While it is taller than the 200/50, it is 7mm shorter than the OEM 200/55 Pirelli. Have fixed the typo.

You'll not miss the 200/50 at all; I haven't mounted a 50 aspect ratio tire on a bike in years. The front/rear profiles match much better with a 55 on back and the rear feels much more planted at higher lean angles. You just run out of tire too easily with a 50.

We use these because they are sick, and get the job done.

They mirror the stock tires at half the cost.

Q2's would actually hold mid line better then the SC's but were slower to tip in.

Q3's tip in quicker and rail, what else would you like? oh and last longer too.

I bet if you searched around you would find the michelins are the almost the same cost as your Q's... and just as good if not slightly better.

I was so 51/49 on getting the 200/50, and you have swayed that quite a bit. and I noticed what you are saying. I didn't realize the shoulder was cut so much short on the 50 profile. I will be going to a 190/55 as soon as I burn this one up! thanks again!

Speed calculated via front wheel, not rear.

Every M/C I've ever ridden has had error of 5%-10% to the low side. My 748 was ~8%, my Triumph is 10% low (both confirmed with GPS). m900 was 10% off as well as my 750ss. The Pani looks to be about the same.

I suspect manufacturers build them that way to avoid potential legal issues that might occur when changing tire sizes and manufacturing variations.

It will probably feel like you're riding an entirely new bike when in the twisties. The 200/50 looks to be very limiting for this application.

this is also good to know. thank you for the info.

well damn. i knew i was giving up a little on the sidewall but not that much! all good info, which is why i opened an account on here! thank you again! i can certainly feel how the bike doesnt want to go as far, as easy, as when i was on the SC. you can even see how the front tire still has 1" strips on the side, yet i have maxed the rear out! all makes sense now. guess i gotta burn this one up so i can get a 190/55. not changing from the Q3's though. better for how i ride all day long over the SC.

best prices I found was bikebandit.com for you guys in the states. $161 for a rear 190/55. I think $100 for the front??? super cheap and super fast. I have ordered 3 tires from them, and all 3 came the very next day on 3 separate occasions with standard shipping. crazy!

And mounting and balance is........?

my buddy is a master tech for ducati so I just let him take the bike to work for the day and hold his 1098 troy B hostage till he gets back with my baby lol. I throw him $20. so im lucky in that aspect.

... free if you DIY :D

i earn a lot of beer mounting and balancing in my garage, getting faster every time.

What kiind of setup are you using? I've thought about just doing it myself with all the M/C''s around my house. But my (biggest) problem is I don't have any place to put a permanent mount tire machine/whatever. And the "portable" ones I've looked at (i.e. ones that aren't bolted to floor) look to be pretty flimsy.

Used to do my own tire mounts when I was running dirt bikes. But there's a lot of difference in spooning on a sand tire (w/tube) for the Husky and a 17" 190/55 for the Duc and the Triumph. Local guy will do them for $20 bucks for me which isn't bad. But 7-8 tire swaps a year tends to get expensive.
