Chain rubbing on swingarm

Ducati Forum

Help Support Ducati Forum:

In my case the chain was grinding thru the metal on the swingarm and had worn down the head of the guide mount bolt.

This was the start of my swing arm problem

I sent them pictures of the chain grinding away at the swing arm and had the dealership retest the chain tension. The bolt was sheared off after prolonged riding and I was getting pissed.

After being told by DNA that it is only a chain tension issue, I contacted Italy.

All of a sudden my swing arm was removed and sent to CA for adjustment.....go figure

This is no joke. Same *&$% happened to me. I swapped to the 520 before it got past the paint. Fairly ...... attention to detail on Ducati's part but im getting used to that and avoiding it by basically replacing everything and properly assembling the thing.

Same here 6k on the odometer and slight scraping on the paint/metal.

Went to Ducati Zolder in Belgium and they say the 1299 sometimes tends to do this.

Since it has only minor scrapes, no action needed.

But I just order the sprockets and the chain from the Superlegera (520) and light alloy sprockets. (500 Euro incl work):(

Hopefully the 520 will not scrape any more further.

Mine did the same at around 500 miles. I took it in for the 600 mile service and the service manager said that DNA told them to send it back to them and they would mill a fraction off of the swingarm. I got it back and it looked great. 800 miles later and no rubbing!

Sounds about right for a 25K bike. Oh waite, its an Italian motor vehicle. Perfectly normal and acceptable.

had this exact same problem about a year or so ago. called my dealer, who contacted Ducati. on a follow up phone call with DNA, I was told the bike was past the warranty period, which it actually was, by one month. the DNA rep indicated that since that was the case, there was nothing they could do. Once i said the words "safety issue", "$30+ motorcycle" and "lawyer", he changed his mind. swingarm was sent to ducati, and they actually carved a groove on the swingarm to prevent the contact. hope you get it resolved.
