I wouldn't call out any dealer names, ducati may frown on mandated canisters being removed by a dealer. It's not really hard to do and think the thread is somewhere around here.

I agree, took mine off in a matter of minutes..come to think of it I've taken them off on all the ducks Ive owned.;)
 
So its 100% positive that this fixes the hard starting culprit? Wonder if this will affect the emissions ..... from CA.... /wonders
 
Agreed ... let me rephrase ... which FL dealer suggested that removing the canister yourself might resolve the problem ... ;)

nope not 100% positive it fixed it, I never had the issue but I took off the canister after a bad experience with pressure build up in my streetfighter tank.

If you're in CA you can't take the canister off as I believe it's mandated by CA>

So how do they enforce this?
 
don't you guys have smog checks for bikes in CA? I'ts been a long time since I lived in Cali, so I've no idea if it's something they track or not.

One thing you can do is leave all the plumbing in place but re route the vent line and plug the vacuum line, keep the canister and you can always put it back on. Elminating the canister eliminates a load of potential problems

They dont. I live in socal and have been riding for 10 years and have never seen anything enforced on motos other than noise tickets, if you are ridiculously loud, (streetbikes) and spark arrestors (dirtbikes). Been stopped plenty of times and ticketed sometimes, but never emissions related, ie cats, canisters, or otherwise.

And cali doesnt smog motorcycles. The only exception I know of is if you are re-vinning a moto or bringing a salvaged one back to life (new vin issued). There they will go through the steps of making sure everything is legal, including the presence of cats and canisters, and that is meets noise limits.

One other exception might be for motos that are registered in cali that were not originally manufactured as cali compliant. I have transferred in dirt bikes but emissions dont apply. However I know that this question comes up when transferring in autos from other states, and at the very least the charge an additional tax for it.

No annual smog checks in CA. Only when you move a bike from out of state into Cali.

At the moment, they can enforce loud pipes and some blatenly obvious aftermarket pipes. If yours say "for track use only" on the pipe, you are hit with a ticket, otherwise they can't really tell if it's legal for street use or not. They also do decibal check on your bike, if it's over 103db (no 100% sure), you get a ticket, except Harleys, they get a free pass because they are harleys.

But all 2013 model bikes requires an EPA approval logo on the exhaust which makes enforcing aftermarketing pipes much easier. You ain't got a sticker, it ain't legal. Imagine Ducs without Termi's
 
Does anyone have a photo of the canister ? tried to locate it in the photos provided but did not see it.....

On my streetfighter I used a straight connector to connect the vent line that went into the canister to another piece of tubing and ran it down next to the other tank vent line. The vacuum line is plugged.

Hey Chris,

So the top most host gets plug, the other top hose gets extended and place on the botton of the fairing. What about the hose coming from the bottom of the cannister (# 7 on the diagram)?

Hii, the top most hose is plugged, you can double check by just seeing that this hose connects to the throttle bodies.

The bottom hose #7 you can use that as the piece you connect the vent line to do give you more length, not sure if it's long enough, if not you'll have to buy another section of tubing. You want to route it to the same place as the other tank vent line. You do want to be careful as you don't want the vent to route right to the exhaust pipes due to fire risk.

There are two hoses that plug into the top of the cannister. There is one hose that comes out the bottom.

Now, open your gas tank filler. Of the two hoses that connect to the top of the cannister, blow into each hose one at a time. When you blow into one of them you will feel air come out of the gas tank. Take that hose and connect it to the hose that came from the bottom of the cannister. The other hose should be plugged or capped off. You are done.

Another way to check. Unplug the two hoses from the top of the cannister. Start the engine. One of the two hoses will be drawing vaccum (suction) while the engine is running. That is the hose you need to plug or cap off.

So, now you have two ways to verify you have done it correctly.

Yup not fitted on European version Panigales...

I live in the Philippines, our Panigales are euro versions, we have NO emission canisters like the U.S.versions, and I still have the hard starting issues up to now (read my thread on hard starting)...Has nothing to do with that emission canister as mentioned.
