Charcoal emissions canister

There are two hoses that plug into the top of the cannister. There is one hose that comes out the bottom.

Now, open yoru gas tank filler. Of the two hoses that connect to the top of the cannister, blow into each hose one at a time. When you blow into one of them you will feel air come out of the gas tank. Take that hose and connect it to the hose that came from the bottom of the cannister. The other hose should be plugged or capped off. You are done.

Another way to check. Unplug the two hoses from the top of the cannister. Start the engine. One of the two hoses will be drawing vaccum (suction) while the engine is running. That is the hose you need to plug or cap off.

So, now you have two ways to verify you have done it correctly.

This was great info. Thanks!!! (Just did it last night)

Got bored so I took it off today...

to be clear, and hopefully be of help to others, the rubber hose that goes to the larger circular piece at the top of the evap canister is the fuel overflow hose.....the line going to the smaller circular piece at the top of the fuel canister is the throttle body hose (the one that gets capped). you can see the fuel hose as #12 in the photo provided which goes to the fuel tank (nipples) in the upper left hand corner of said photo. earlier in the thread one of the lines was being referred to as "the top hose" which seemed a little confusing to me. regardless, hope this helps.

Thanks Trauma but isn't there a separate issue regarding a kinked hose where one has to remove the gas tank to reveal the kinked hose? If so, I couldn't see a pic of it in the charcoal canister link you provided.

There is actually a hose outlet by the fan - there is already one hose and the fan wires that run out under the bike. I ran mine through there far away from exhaust and fairings

Where do you see the gap between the fairing close to the fan? I don't have it and I ran the hose all the way down close to the exhaust.

Here some pics

Thanks

Lucas...

Sorry for the ignorance...

You refer to the circular base nipple and the regular L nipple...

The two nipples on top of the canister are attached to a small circular and a larger circular wart. Which hose should be plugged, the one from the smaller circular wart or the larger one?

Thanks in advance and sorry for the dumb question :)

I will try to explain this as best as possible.

Things you need to buy.
Hose connector, hose clamp, and 1/4 fuel line about 1.5ft in length

1. Remove right side fairings. Both top and bottom.

2. Remove the canister from bracket by releasing the rubber strap

3. Remove the top hose coming from the top of the canister that comes from the circular base nipple. Once done plug this hose with a screw or stopper. I used the same clamp to hold my screw in place within the hose.

4. Remove the other top hose from the regular L nipple. Now connect the hose you just unplugged with the connector and clamp. Connect the additional hose that was purchased to the other end of the connector and clamp.

5. Remove the canister bracket by undoing the 3 bolts. One is to the left other in the center and the third to the right.

6. Zip tie the two hose together up to so that they don't flap around.

7. Run down the now longer hose with the connector down towards the bottom of the bike. Place it away from the exhaust. I placed mine right behind the lower radiator.

8. Put your fairings together

Done

Feel free to ask any questions.

Geoff, see my post above, I had the same question as you.

Hope it helps,

Ok, I just did this. The original instructions are backwards.

There are two lines that are attached. One comes from the gas tank. This line is attached to the Circular piece with the nipple. This line needs to be lengthened and vented to a safe area under the bike.

The other line--the one that's attached to the nipple that connects to the canister via a smaller, 90 degree elbow--needs to be plugged.

Another method--when you've removed both lines from the canister (I just cut mine off), each will have a slightly different inside diameter. The line with the smaller inside diameter is the vacuum line and needs to be plugged. The other line that has the larger inside diameter needs to be vented. I took some pics and will try to post soon.

Anyone who's done it the way Lucas had specified should go back and redo it, because it's backwards.
