Commuting heat

do you have it set in 195hp lo or 195 hp hi?

Tried it in sport and race, dunno it felt odd, it felt fine before the first service then tip toed back in the rain so yesterday was the first day in the dry with the full system and no 6k limit. 70 mph roll in in sixth went nowhere, took all day to get to 110. I'll check the settings on each mode before I go out again. I was expecting more to be honest. Might be time to add a few teeth to the rear sprocket.

Now I'm thinking about it it did feel like its was stuck in 120 lo mode even though it displayed 195 hi / lo. Just no get up and go.

Keep in mind you just said you tried a roll on in 6th gear at 70mph.. what were your rpms around 4.5krpm.. on a tall gear? Drop some gears and then give it some love :)

Also I've heard great differences between 195 Hi vs. Low.. set it to Hi and give it a try again.. make sure your 'race' default settings were not changed either. If your traction control is raised to 8 and/or it's in 192 Lo/120.. that'll make a big difference.

In addition to ceramic coating the headers has anyone considered coating the valve covers?

not a bad idea. i think an insulation with a carbon shield would be the best up there.

or sth like this:

like on the benelli, they had the coolers in the rear:

Something is not right....Race, 195hi has immediate response and will get from 70-110 in the blink of an eye. Im sure you know but you have to hit memory in orange then it will say "memorized" in green telling you it has saved the settings.

Had my S ABS since beginning May. It does get really hot. I commute in and out of New York City on it - I did buy it to ride it after all. Today was 90 F and traffic was bad. It got hot - up to 221 F. It is basically always very hot in traffic and my thighs get real hot but once moving it cools off but it is always at best at a pretty warm ride. First few weeks it freaked me out as previous Yamaha never got anything like that hot but now am slowly stopping watching the temp in traffic and just getting on with enjoying the ride. Riding up from downtown Manhatten to home today (about 50 miles) through baseball traffic by Yankee stadium and worse, temp was always over 185 in moderate traffic and it peaked at 221. So far in slow traffic it seems to hover in the 210 to 219 range which is hot but it seems happy enough! Find that if you ride in low revs and slightly higher gear afterwards than normal it cools real quick - is impressive once you are used to the bike how easy it is to control at low revs but still in 3rd or 4th. (Mind you they are right, 8000 to 11500 is where it flies - really cracked it open in second and was literally hanging on!)

End of the day I am getting used to hot thighs as I just love everything about the 1199. It is beautiful, feels so poised like you are sitting in the bike not on it and the way it just leans into corners has me grinning every time. And the noise when you go through a tunnel or by a wall is awesome .

Have 1600 miles on mine now and best thing I ever bought - so for me the heat is a minor price to pay for the rest

mine peaked today at 223F. It was horrible I was about to start crying. Don't want my baby to burn up in traffic.

@ Isberrios1 Not pleasant 223F/106C..... but it goes higher LOL. You're lucky!;)

Last Friday coming back from my ride it was 117F/ 47C ambient temp, that was at 10:30 in the morning. Thank my lucky stars I got back before it got really hot. Oh and we have like 100% humidity here just to make it even more fun!

It's all mind over matter. If you sit there and think about it, it will be un pleasant. If you just think about other stuff , you don't even notice

I heard the 1198's had even worse heat. I am getting ready to buy this bike and reading about the heat reminds me when I first bought my 09 R1. Also bad heat from under the seat. It is the ONLY gripe I have with this bike. Anyway, In my case, I determined that the R1 sucks in traffic, does not like going slow(like most superbikes) Does NOT like hot weather. Therefore, I do not ride in traffic, I do not Commute and I limit my Summer riding to Once every two weeks which is a nice 150 mile round trip ride on secluded back roads in middle of state. The winter down here makes for magnificent riding. No heat issues whatsoever.

1stduc1199, what part of SF? I'm in Fort Laud, still waiting for my S/abs. True about the heat down here, makes riding in summer limited, have my concerns about the bike riding hot but I did have the 1098 and that was no picnic.

Im in Pembroke Pines. I'm doing as much research on this bike as possible before I pull trigger. I do not want to regret buying this bike.

120 F here today in NY. Mad a dumb decision and out Icon textile riding pants on not perforated leathers.... totally roasted thighs - not fun. again though bike seemed to not go over 221F. In the heat though this was not fun. but i still love this bike!

When I rode mine home from the dealership I got stuck in traffic and the heat was pretty bad. I was second guessing my decision as I didn't want a bike this expensive that gave me a reason not to ride it. Especially since the warm weather lasts here from mid-April through mid-October. I was even more discouraged when I got home and my legs were actually burnt from the heat.

After having ridden now for almost 500 miles, I couldn't be happier with my purchase. This bike has so many other upside to it that the heat is much less of a factor for me. The heat is still there, but I have either gotten use to it or the excitement of the ride just makes me forget about it.

I've had it almost three weeks now and I still can't stop staring at it in my garage.
I took a Panigale S home last Friday in Houston TX and I have to say, the heat didn't become a problem until 5 mins before I got home. We live about 20 miles from the dealer and the underside of my right leg was the only play I felt pain (not discomfort). If I scooted back in the stock seat, it was tolerable. Since I'm only 5'7", that might not be practical all the time. I want to experiment with the exhaust heat shield wrap and not he exhaust wrap. I also saw on Motowheels website a Carbonvani Carbon Fiber Exhaust Collector Guard: 1199 Panigale for about $273. I wonder if that that would mitigate the intense heat just enough for it to become a non issue. I did enjoy my ride, but my next chance to do so might be a little while. Let me know what you think.

thats what i try

the heat is not that much of a problem for me. i also had a nice ride of about 300 miles in jeans. but normally i go with leather. at the first presentations of the 1199 there where some with wrapped exhaused.
before and after.jpg
just finished with the job, tomorrow will be the first experience.

If you think it's hot where you are.....
And what's worse, it was 117 for all of my ride home until I got into my neighborhood, where obviously it's cooler than the main roads.

I rode the 1198 and to me the 1199 was hotter in different areas. How many 1198 have you heard of catching fire? So far two 1199 we know of.
