So the Ohlins folks won't send a fix? Did they bother to offer a PN#?

What is the cost of these rubber caps? How lame of DNA if this is the case.

they want to replace the whole harness. i said thats crazy allegedly their is an after market company that makes them according to ducati nyc

on the new boots i suggest wiping them with 303 aerospace protectant...and D should absolutely honor the warranty (assuming you are within it) esp of a NON wear and tear part like this...

and i have ridden the bmw and there is no comparison in terms of fun faktor : for me the duck blows the beemer away....

i must say my buddy just rode the s1000rr and he has/had an R and totally disagrees with you. said it was like a jet.

i quote Mark this bike is going to be a whole new crazy.
at 7k rpm the thing becomes a fighter jet.

i said 7k wait till 9k. he said or 10 11 12 13 ummmmmmmmmm

i know this forum is brand loyalists but the s1000rr/hp4 is the best engine on the planet for a bike. since 09 you cant even argue that . i hope he chimes in

u know some time back i slammed the 2012 early 2013 Panis on this forum while singing praises of the beemer.....but overall i much prefer the Pani R as visceral experience....now if the bike starts to fall apart that's another story but so far at close to 5k miles it seems to be running strong....we shall see...

they are so different, you cannot compare them.

i love the pull of the s1krr above 10k rpm, but since i've ridden twins all my life, i just need the rumble between my legs.

it's alright for me if others prefer the whining between theirs.

i will have both very shortly. i must say i am looking forward to the hp4. que the bmw sucks posts.

funny think i am on the s1000rr forum as well and they dont bash the pani at all. they say its a beautiful bike. i guess they dont have an inferiority complex over there or they dont have to justify their purchase or have anything to prove.

personally after my "Ducati" track day (90% ducati riders it was a ducati club of some sort) i can honestly say most are duches and i dont even want to be associated with them (they probably dont want to be associated with me either) my boys were smoking them on the track and they were like whiny ........ like what are you doing here this is our day and we are on ducatis so you shouldnt pass us. give me a break.

just my experience and it wasnt all of them

i really don't see a lot of s1krr bashing, the only thing i see is some jackasses who always bring up the comparison - fueled by the moto press of course. both good bikes, with their pros and cons - end of discussion.

i've done trackdays with Bimota clubs, ducati clubs and latest with USDESMO here in the US.

the difference is (yes, there are always douches (hence douchecati) but) most ride their ducs in these clubs in order to avoid the squids who are so overly present in regular td orgs. (ask me how i know: N2) it's just a difference if you want to roll out your 30 grand 'cati amongst same minded individuals or if you want to jump into a shark tank and get rear ended by a 2 grand track beater bike.

then again, go racing and see the real potential of a bike. there is a 1199 in the wera southeast (expert) who's killing it right now...

have to agree with this, have ridden a bmw s1k many times on the road and at the strip, and the engine is amazing it just pulls so much harder compare to the 1199. Top end is killer!

i remember doing roll on's with s1k and unless i was about 5000-6000rpm on the duc the s1k would just rip it out of the hole!

overall 2 awesome bikes and it comes down to personal preferences which one you like better, as i don't think most people could ride both bikes anywhere near there limits

those ducati track days seem to be made up of track day novices and a lot of them are just made up of people parading their bikes around on track to say they did it (not all).

I guess you scared them flying past :)

Who is that Phil?

#131
Jeffrey Purk

but looking at the results page cleared up my impression a bit. he's not killing it.
just running good (in formula1 and a superbike /ss). HWT he's up front. but then, the competition is the KTM's

I bought a 2008 Kawi Vulcan 900 Custom as a present to myself after retiring from the AF. On the ride home from the dealership the FRONT BRAKE CALIPER ALMOST FELL OFF. I was going around 20 mph coming up on a yield sign getting ready to merge when the front brake failed. I pulled into a nearby gas station and found the caliper drooping down, the top bolt had backed all the way out (still there) and the bottom bolt was holding on by maybe two threads. The dealer sent a truck to take it back to their shop and tightened the bolts. No apology, no free T-shirt, nothing.

TL DR: QA problems are not brand specific.

As the technician told me at the service department when I took my bike in for bolts falling out..."Quality handmade products have quality handmade mistakes". I honestly think they need a little more quality control. If a company is going to pride themselves on hand making stuff, they should have quality control too.

Well said Sloopy, and that is why the best form of advertising or marketing is word of mouth. You never go into to much detail about a great meal but you sure as hell let everyone know in great detail about a bad meal or bad experience.

Yea, we have a saying. It takes four atta boys to make up for one god dam it.

I bonded with my bike. Did not ride her till I verified everything over the course of several weeks. Been good for 8K miles save for almost leaving me stranded with the gear position indicator going bad gradually. It aint no Honda, but that's ok, because it aint no Yugo either.

The S1000RR is much faster than the Panigale. But the Panigale is way more fun to ride. Either one is a great choice. If financially feasible, you kind of need them both.

I've tried the 303 on mine from day 1.
It didn't work.
The rubber boots literally rotted away within 12 months.
I submitted a warranty claim, on the issue and it was flatly refused.
I fought the issue in the nicest possible way, and the importer sent me a set of rubber boots off a race bike.
Ultimately, the original ones virtually fell off within 2 years , and I had the dealer replace them with the ones supplied by the importer at the same time I had the "Fuel Injector Parameter" update installed in April.

I haven't used 303 on this set since, and they're holding up fine.
I was wondering if something in the 303 was having a negative effect on the original rubber boots.

It's funny though, because all the other rubbers are fine.
I think it may have been a bad batch, or a change of supplier which led to this issue.
For everybody's information, the same rubber boots are used on my older(2010) model Streetfighter, and they're holding up beautifully with 303 on them.

Sadly one cannot buy the boots alone from DUCATI as a spare part.
They could easily sell them singly as a spare part at a reasonable cost for people who want to renew them.

Agreed;)

Ultimately the whining annoys me after a while, and I have to have a lie down after riding the screaming heaps.

It's V or L- twins for me:)

I own a S1000 currently and have ridden a handful of ducati's. The problems I read about with these bikes just is very odd to me. These things arent acceptable on a 7k bike let alone on a 25k bike. My bmw has been flawlees with not a single quality issue nor have I read about anything like this on the BMW forum. I have friends that own Ferrari's and they all have weird issues as well they just chalk it up to it being limited production. "It's a Ducati or its a Ferrari". I cross shopped the 1199 before I bought my BMW and after reading these threads I am happy with my purchase. I hope Ducati pulls their head out of the sand before its to late.

Flawless? Really? Not mine. I have a 2012 S1K. First of all I had to bring it back to the dealer to have it's cases split for the replacement of the connecting rod bolts. They kept my bike for two weeks and did a sloppy job with the sealant. Then The water pump was leaking. After replacing it, the second water pump leaked. They replaced it again. The third water pump leaked, and I just accepted it as one of the bike's flaws. Then there was another recall for the kickstand bolts. Another pain in my behind. And if I leave my bike in the sun, sometimes it won't start because of a faulty starter switch.

I know a guy with 15,000 miles on a 2012 S1000RR who had to have his top end rebuilt. I know another guy with a 2010 S1000RR who's ECU failed and he had to buy a new one.

On the other hand, my 2013 Panigale only had to have a part of the harness replaced. Because sometimes the signals didn't work. Besides that, it's been perfect.

I love both of my bikes, so please don't come to this Ducati forum sipping the S1000RR kool aid and bashing the Panigale.

People often ask me why I spent a premium for a Ducati when I could have either saved $$$ or purchased a competing liter bike for the same price.

After leaving a comment on the Ducatiusa.com website recently, I now have a substantial reason for doing so. After reading a post about the ECU update that was released this past week, I used my Ducati code and sent a message on the customer service page. I received an email the following afternoon explaining they had tried calling and that since there was no answer, they were sending me a note to indicate there was no recall campaign and the update was at the discretion of the dealer. I left my mobile number and asked them to put it on file.

The following morning, my mobile phone rang with an Italian intl. prefix code and it was Ducati HQ calling to make sure that I understood the response and to follow up. I explained the hot starting issue that I had experienced on my Monster and that I was seeing on my 899 and the rep began peppering me with questions as to the circumstances under which it was occurring. Hot weather, long ride, short ride, cold weather, etc. She was clearly taking and referring back to her notes to get a complete summary of the issues I was experiencing.

When a company gives that amount of time and courtesy to a customer, it leaves quite an impression on me.
