Downshift "Blipper" Function - You want?

Ducati Forum

Help Support Ducati Forum:

New TuneBoy QS with auto blipping is cool! Need to fine tune it but it's fun. Changing my style a bit too. Highly recommend it. Once you can get the effing TuneBoy software to work that is lol. That's another thread haha.

Yeah don't think I can be bothered with that route.

I commute to work and back on mine and want my bike to work every morning I go to fire it up.

I think all of his issues were due to the software's compatibility with the mac OS.

I've never had an issue with the Tuneboy "breaking" my bike or causing any type of reliability problems.

Ok guys, we are now accepting PRE-ORDERS for the auto-downshift-blipper system! Expected first shipment is late April. We do not have an exact date yet, so if you're going to place a pre-order and then contact us every day asking if it has shipped yet, please do us and yourself a favor and don't order it yet. If you are an "early adopter" and want to be in on the first batch, then go ahead and place your pre-order and you'll get one of the first kits! We're expecting 20 kits in the first shipment, so we'll turn off the PRE-ORDER options once we have 20 orders.

INFORMATION:
The product will be called the "Blip Box" and there are two versions: LITE and PRO. $649 for LITE and $999 for PRO. The LITE version will activate a throttle blip when you pull the clutch lever (in certain conditions, over 15mph) to allow a smooth downshift without needing to blip the throttle yourself to match revs. The PRO version features a full load-cell shift rod sensor to allow FULLY-CLUTCHLESS downshifts, just like the new system on the 1299 Panigale. The system will come pre-mapped for the Panigale. However if you'd like to change the programming parameters yourself, there is an optional USB cable and software available to allow you full control of the blip paramters.

The fitting of the system uses all OEM connectors and is completely external to the ECU and all systems, so it's easy removable and transferrable to a different bike.

See and order here:
(p.s. - You WILL earn Ducati Omaha Rewards Points on your pre-orders!)

If you have questions about the product, post them up here rather than sending me a PM so the info can be shared with everyone at once!

Hi Jarel
Could you please give us your own personal feedback of using these two products on the 1199 ?
Thanks so much...

We will have two prototype kits arriving here next week and will be installing one on a street bike and one on a track bike to play around with the programming options, I'll post up on it when I ride them. They've done quite a bit of testing at BSD already, and they have an 1199 test bike they bought just to do this project, so it's been through the paces quite a bit to prove up the components.

i'm assuming this won't interfere with my Rapid bike "Race" module and Rapidbike quick shifter ?

Neither version will interfere with the RapidBike fuel unit, but if you have a non-OEM quickshifter installed that would be replaced by the Blip Box sensor unit instead if you get the Blip Box Pro. The Blip Box Pro will allow programmable quickshifter function as well as the downshift blipper.

Very cool!
I have a cordona QS installed on my Tri (strain gauge sensor). I guess BlipBox Pro won't work with it?
Does the Pro version comes with a sensor? If that's the case, I'd love to put it into the SL!
If possible: I'm in :)

Yes, the PRO version comes with a bidirectional shift sensor. I'll have to verify compatibility with the SL, let me check on that and I'll post back up when I have the answer.

And the answer is........ PROBABLY! ;)

They haven't actually plugged one in to an SL yet but there shouldn't be anything on the SL that would prevent the Blip Box from working correctly. We have an SL here, I'll see if I can persuade the owner to let me plug one of the prototypes into his bike and give it a try next week.

woooo im in as well... Just got the Akra full system off Jarel and now this hahahah gonna be a fun autumn for me:)

Sorry, but I don't get this U.S.$999 for this Quickshifter setup and that is all it does as opposed to U.S. $ 902 (includes tune and cruise software strain gauge shifter and shipping )as of todays exchange rate for the Tuneboy setup which gives you
1. Cluchless up and down shifting fully adjustable including ignition cut time, (you don,t need to pay anyone to do this , its easy to do yourself)
2. Cruise control, absolute gold if you ride your bike on the street(admittedly not much use on a track bike)
3. A whole bunch of included tunes that suit common setups i.e. full termi's or termi slipons , db killers in or out etc
4. The ability to custom tune fuel and ignition ideally on a dyno but you can make manual "seat of the pants "adjustments if you have the skills.
5. The ability to "autotune " with the addition of wide band O2 sensors.
6. The ability to reset service indictors yourself.
7. Adjusted fan cut in and cut out setup ( keeps the bike running cooler )
8. The ability to data log.
9. You can load 3 different trim files to the ECU and select them at any time while out on the road
10. Nothing needs to be fitted to your bike except the strain gauge shifter replacing the factory one .
There is probably more that I have forgotten to mention.
You do not need to pay anyone to install it as it is easy to do yourself , only if you want to custom tune on a dyno is there a need to pay any additional money.

It's simple, the Tuneboy requires your stock ECU to be reflashed, whereas this is a totally external solution. I had the Tuneboy setup on my 899 last year, and it worked great for me, but we also had several bikes that had the ecu flashed with lots of problems that were very hard to track down. So we're out of the Tuneboy camp, we've been using the RapidBike tuner now and that has given us much fewer problems and doesn't require tampering with the stock ECU.

not to mention that absolute lack of support from TB, good luck if you run into problems, I still have nightmares from the time when I had TB for my speed triple...

Well I have it (tuneboy ) and a couple of mates do as well and like it did for you on your 899, its working well.
Could you be a bit more specific on the type of problems you experienced ? I am not aware of any issues other than minor installation issues mostly to do with the instruction PDF. It maybe helpful should I experience the same .

On that I can agree ,the support could and should be better , having said that if and when you do get to talk to Wayne he is extremely helpful and knowledgeable. So far I have not experienced any issues with the way Tuneboy works, very happy!

So the PRO version will replace my OEM quickshifter and retain clutchless up shifts while giving me auto blipping and clutchless downshifts?

Is the quickshifter cut time configurable for upshifts depending on the RPM and does it mirror the OEM settings or are they totally different?

I ask because I like the way the OEM quickshifter feels and don't want it any crisper/harsher below 5000rpm to be honest.

Well I guess I'm first thru the mine field. I just ordered mine. Let you know when it arrives and I install it.

I have no doubt it will be equal,(if not better) than what is going to show up as stock on the new 1299.
