DP Race seat vs Stock

After riding 1300 miles I realized the stock seat is uncomfortable as hell and it doesn't play nicely with the family jewels. I wasn't sure if I wanted to get the DP race seat or the comfort seat. Everyone says the one they got is good so I wasn't sure if comfort was too much padding/big or race was too little padding. I was also afraid the race seat would be the stock with a little more cushion.

I got the seat and to my surprise the race seat has a lot more cushion and its angled to where you slide to the back of the seat and not against the tank.

This might help someone but here are pics of the two seats(stock vs. race) so you can see for yourself. The material is slip resistant so you don't slide forward on hard breaking or slide backwards hammering the throttle.

I just cant believe Ducati made such an uncomfortable seat on the stock bike. I bet Nicky and Ben don't ride with stock on the track.

Yup, got the race seat. Expensive but oh so comfy compared to stock. Think I'll get the stock reupholstered with a more grippy/luxurious material

What makes it a 'Race' seat? Is it only because of the non-slip material? Seems like most actual race seats are just made of high density foam. No cushion whatsoever. The DP 'Race' seat to me seems more like the comfort seat, (cushy) just with a lower profile. I would be really interested in buying a seat more in line with the ones used on the MotoGP Desmosedici. Too bad they are impossible to find. I ended up shaving down the stock seat and having mine reupholstered in Alcantara.

i think the biggest "sell" on it being a "race seat" is that the edge of the seat is more pronounced then the shaved down sleek seat that comes stock. To me, the steeper edge to the seat gives your leg something to "bite" into as apposed to just falling under. The seat is dense and does give a bit once you've got some miles on it. The cover is nice and grippy too. This has gone over a bunch but, I feel this is THE seat for the bike in that it complements input to the bike as apposed to showroom looks. Prob the best upgrade to the bike I have made from stock.

I have tank grip pads on the bike and they were pretty much useless unless you have huge legs that can reach the tank. With the new seat I can finally fell the tank grip on the side. I also thought the bike was a little short for me and the new seat makes its a better fit. I am 5'9" and the bike feels more like a 600 vs 1200 to me due to it being so skinny. It adds about 2 in to the height between the seat and the ground. Tuck position feels a little better being further back on the seat. If I would have known I would have done this as the first mod to the bike.

Rode it for the first time with the new seat. My ... didnt even slide or move. Also makes you sit further back to take advantage of wider part of the seat vs. the narrower skinny part in the front of the stock seat.

The foam is dense but a bit thicker than the stock so it doesnt feel like you sitting on a piece of wood and sliding around.

couldn't agree more!

In addition to the much improved grip, I find the higher setting of the DP race seat provides a better riding position (I'm 5' 11') and compliments the higher setting of the DP rear sets. I love the combination.

I'm pretty sure the GP ones are just a piece of 1" foam glued/bolted down.....somebody correct me if I'm wrong.

Race vs stock seat ...

+1

I'm the same height and got the same result: much better triangulation and positioning vis a vis pegs, grips and seat.

I really hope the race seat gives me an extra half inch. Its tough for my long legs to get on top of the pegs in full track gear.

Read all the posts- ordered the race seat - 2nd best move (after changing foot pegs) Finally my knees are in the correct position relative to tank and no issues with increased height despite 29 inch inseam. Any of you on the fence re the change do it and you won't regret it.

1300 miles ! How in the hell did the jewels stand the torture for that long ?!!

Before I'd finished the 13 miles home from the show room I was SO over the stock seat. Fortunately I had both the comfort and the race seat waiting for me at home. I tried both and there wasn't one skerrick of difference in comfort so I kept the best looking one and sold the other. Get either you cant go wrong, but stock... i'd rather dig my eyes out with a rusty teaspoon !

it will give you at least 1/2 inch lift for sure.
