Ducati 1199 or Aprilia RSV4??

Most insurance companies go by CC's so they pani would probably be a little more.

That's being said, I had my first sportbike when I was 16...a '00 CBR600F4. Had it 4 months and got tired of my dad beating up on me with his '00 CBR929. I got a '00 GSX-R750 and held on to it for a while. There weren't many options in 2000 for liter bikes or that's what I would've gotten. As long as you respect the bike, know that it will be far more capable than you are, and keep the throttle under control you'll be fine.

As far as the buttery smooth 4's I wouldn't worry about that. I love the pani and you get used to the "character". It feels like my bike to me, I ride someone else's and you realize how grumpy it is, but when you're back on it you forget how smooth the other bike was. Makes my old man's Speed Triple and a buddy's GSX-R1000 feel like touring bikes.

Nothing against the OP but this thread, with the little information that he's provided, is a bit ridiculous.

Bikes are a personal choice and he's indicated that his primary criteria is subjective and based on personal preferences and the objective criteria is clearly secondary.

"I'm in love with 2 pretty girls, which should I marry?"

I do not see that he indicated that, but rather he asked for input, for which everybody has given. Not sure why that is ridiculous. I think it is rather smart of him to ask for some information from people with experience with the bikes rather than just an emotional decision. What's the old saying, wisdom is somehthing you get immediately after you needed it. Sure beats the hell out of my purchasing practices, which appear to be that of a raccoon finding a shiny object. ;)

And if a friend asked me which girl to marry, and one of them was more a pain in the ass and cost more, I'd give my two cents worth on that one too (and then likely start dating the costly pain in the ass myself).

go aprilia
easy on money
easy service
easy throttle
handles well
all the gadgets

ducati is expensive to insure buy maintain and deal with life to life
like buying a sports car to a super car

cant drive it everywhere

not sure why you cant drive it everywhere, i have ridden mine to about everywhere, even salty, snowy condition (admittedly the salty ride was not very smart)

So i am 18 and i have been riding since 15, so please do not give me speech about how I cannot handle the bike. I started out on an R6 and then went to a GSXR750 and in the past I have ridden liter bikes with no problem at all. I would like to get a new bike, either a Panigale or a 2010+ RSV4. The thing is i know that both bikes are expensive, I don't know whether I would like to spend the extra couple thousand for a Panigale and have it depreciate a whole bunch. I also know that the insurance companies will try to destroy me, if anyone knows about how much it would cost to insure either for an 18 year old male with a clean driving record and living in a fairly rural area in Texas. I would like to get one of these instead of a japanese bike because they are works of art and i care more about what the bike looks like than how fast it goes. Honestly if I were to get the Panigale I would probably keep it in the wet mode almost all the time and not gun it at all. If anyone could give me some advice on which they think would be better and also if you have either nike for sale let me know. You can PM me and I can give you my email or something.

Anyways Thanks for any input!
Merry CHRISTmas!!

Like DucSyd said, Ducatis get under your skin and nibble away at ya,they can and do hypnotise you. Its unique. you seem concerned about depreciation, you are gonna get that with any new bike, but the Pani is more desireable and made in less numbers so will depreciate less over the same period of time. I"m 47 but act like i"m 18,insurance quotes aside i"d say join the club and get a Pani. I fell in love when I saw first picture and had to get one. nothing else mattered. Ducs do that. How fast or how slow, how much to buy how much will it lose, these were questions I didn"t ask,I was in love.Ducs do that. Only Bayliss had ridden one properly at the time. I ordered and waited. I"m happy now. Pani,Pani,Pani:D:D:D

I'm just here to see what his insurance premium is gonna be..... can't wait for this one.

I've ridden both, both are great bikes, but the Pani does more for me... This is because I have never ridden another bike as involving in so many ways as the Pani. It really is a very special bike. The RSV4? a great bike, ultimately a little better performing, but not as characterful, or involving to ride as the Pani.. I had a 2008 GSXR 750, it was great and butter smooth in everything it did, but it had as much character as a sewing machine. Unfortunately, Japanese bikes in my experience are usually so refined that they feel like appliances, and that simply doesn't appeal to me. I want my bike to bring out emotions in me when I ride, that's more important than performance or looks to me.. Also as far as I'm concerned, with the upmap installed the Pani is transformed, and no longer has the low speed hesitation/bucking issue.. Lastly, how tall are you? I am 6'2 and the RSV4 wasn't uncomfortable for me, but I did feel a little bit cramped on it, and there wasn't much room to move around on it, but the Pani is great, its roomier and facilitates body positioning much more easily than the Aprilia does. I do love the RSV4 engine though, it is super smooth with great power everywhere..

Wanna hear the insurance quote! Subscribed.

PS: That "clean record" ain't gonna last regardless of which one you get! :D

Let's put down bets. The closest one without going over wins!

I'm in!

$20.00

Within a week after the first service when the restrictions are removed (Pani).

I'm sure these things will easily hit felony speeds in any state regardless of what mode they're in. ;)

But all kidding and ribbing aside, Ashterh, take it easy on which ever one you get, at least till you get used to it!

Difficult decision, both great bikes, pop on to out web site and you will see info on both, Reevu Helmet Reseller | CzajRacing.com

I've been busy setting up my ducati's however we also have 2 RSV4 factory bikes for our No1 rider in pro stock... I'd have a stock pani over the Aprilia

Both complex to set up

Just my 20c. The 2010 RSV4 is cheaper for a reason. The 11-12 models were much better sorted electronically.

Not sure about the US, in Singapore Aprilia don't hold their value, you are looking at significantly more depreciation so a new to new comparison would favour Ducati.

Reply to most everyone.

I just got on Progressive.com and got an online quote, I know I can get less if I shop around but these are the quotes I was given with 1K deductibles and 50/100/25. 2011 Aprilia RSV4 $4,113 pre year or $357.31 a month. And for the 2012 Panigale with the same coverage $8,475 a year or $735.40. By that alone I am starting to favor the RSV4 more and more. Where have y'all been able to get the best insurance on motorcycles in the past?

When I said that I would keep it in wet mode all the time and never take it out I meant that I would do that until I became more comfortable with the bike. The reason I said that is to say I'm not gonna go pick it up put it in race mode and completely open the throttle.

Additional information. I am 5' 11" about 175lb. I plan to keep this bike for a while because I am about to start college and would like to get something before then.

I have considered the 848 many times, however I have a friend who has one and he said he loves it but he was disappointed with the lack of power and that he got bored with very soon.

Thank you for everyone who has given me advice. I think that I most certainly move into the "douchey" Ducati group as soon as I can but for now I think I will go test a RSV4 and see how I like it.

And also I have been riding a streetbike that has been capable of felony speeds for years and have not been pulled over once for it, I think that I can do just the same on a whatever my decision is.
