Ducati 1199 or Aprilia RSV4??

Both bikes handles well and I can not maximize either of it. Both bikes have an awesome exhaust note. But we will talk about looks. the Panigale looks way much cooler than the Aprilia. I even wonder why aprilia tries to put the rsv4 fascia in most of their models. I just do not like it.

I just got on Progressive.com and got an online quote, I know I can get less if I shop around but these are the quotes I was given with 1K deductibles and 50/100/25. 2011 Aprilia RSV4 $4,113 pre year or $357.31 a month. And for the 2012 Panigale with the same coverage $8,475 a year or $735.40. By that alone I am starting to favor the RSV4 more and more. Where have y'all been able to get the best insurance on motorcycles in the past?

When I said that I would keep it in wet mode all the time and never take it out I meant that I would do that until I became more comfortable with the bike. The reason I said that is to say I'm not gonna go pick it up put it in race mode and completely open the throttle.

Additional information. I am 5' 11" about 175lb. I plan to keep this bike for a while because I am about to start college and would like to get something before then.

I have considered the 848 many times, however I have a friend who has one and he said he loves it but he was disappointed with the lack of power and that he got bored with very soon.

Thank you for everyone who has given me advice. I think that I most certainly move into the "douchey" Ducati group as soon as I can but for now I think I will go test a RSV4 and see how I like it.

And also I have been riding a streetbike that has been capable of felony speeds for years and have not been pulled over once for it, I think that I can do just the same on a whatever my decision is.

I'd not discount the 848. The power is incredibly useable and it may save you a bomb on insurance. Sure, it doesn't explode like the Aprilia or Ducati but in the hands of a good rider it's not far away. I'm "caring" for one at the moment whilst the owner is away and took it for a run with a group a couple of weeks back. I was genuinely surprised how close I was to even quite good riders on 1199's - I'm not great, it's just really useable.

Now you can ignore all that and go buy the bigger bike :)

Aprilia

If you don't want to have TONS of power that you don't want to use, want insurance, maintenance, parts, and the motorcycle itself to be cheaper... As well as using it more for street riding and daily commute I think you will be more comfortable and pleased with the Aprilia. If you have the passion to own a Ducati and know their heritage and drive for innovation you would fall in love with the 1199. But I would encourage you to do your research when it comes to making an investment in any motorcycle. Knowledge and practice is the key to learning to become a better motorcycle rider.

Ducati's are fast and expensive works of engineering art. They are very dangerous man toys. Ignore magazine reviews and focus on what you want out of the bike and what you plan to do with it.

Also, don't jump the gun on insurance. When was on the verge of going to withdraw my check for my 848 a couple years ago I checked insurance and called USAA, they said they didnt have motorcycle insurance and that they were partners with Progressive, Progressive wanted $8,000 a year. That couldn't do... So I called AAA, Geico, Allstate and State Farm. State Farm wanted $2,500 a year. So I decided to go with them. They dropped my policy after lowsiding the bike in the first crash :( I thought I was screwed, but then USAA decided that they were going to put me on the phone this time with one of the people who ACTUALLY knew what they were talking about that day and told me that they had motorcycle insurance all along. Now I only pay around $1,200 a year for the 1199 and I have 8 points :D (Smile is for the price, not the points...)

Try foremost and dairyland insurance as well, two of the cheapest quotes I ever got. I've got foremost now.

The reason you're getting such high quotes is because of your age. You're in the age range with a very high number of accidents to that group.

Also consider running out and getting married real quick. That will drop your bike insurance quite a bit. :)

i like where this is heading :D
18 and riding a superbike to college, im officially jealous! lol

No joke. Sure beats the hell out of the 1976 beat up Toyota Corolla I took to college. And I STILL never made it to class. I can't imagine how little work I would have gotten done if I would have had either of these bikes to play with during warm days.

ok, ok, so I left out a few minor details about what getting married might mean to young OP's lifestyle, but hey, I was only trying to help him save a couple bucks on insurance. From an insurance standpoint it is still the way to go, but these guys are right from a TCO perspective.

You were right though. Put this way, he may save even more in insurance since he may have to sell the bike to pay for the wife, so no insurance required. At least I would have to.

Aprilla - Much more streetable if you are not a track guy. Smoother in the low RPM's, electronics are probably some of the best and it sounds great with stock exhausts. Based on how you say you ride speed is not and issue the Aprilla is a fantastic bike.

BUT I HAVE A PANI :0P
