If I hadn't bought a 2016 base model, I'd buy one. I think it looks great.

don't powdercoater you won't get the same color just take your "S" wheels to a good bodyshop they will mach the color (is just the same color of the 1098 tricolores) nothing special it probable $400 to $600 job to do it.I like the bike but there is nothing special about it, let see how many sucker will jump the wagon of "this is the best panigale ever" everything else is just crap this is the best lol.

At that cost I rather buy the 10 spokes in gold. In my opinion, I think the 1299 wheels look ugly. The only reason I have not pulled the trigger is because $2000 is a tough pill to swallow for pure aesthetics.

just wondering, but why can't the Panigale R be flashed with the EVO system?

Because it's a radically different engine with completely different calibration.

Adapting the EVO systems to it would require a dedicated development process, you can't just use the same algorithm settings developed for a different engine.

The lighter weight of the Pani R further complicates things, but it's relatively less important than the differences in the engine.

Isn't it also a problem since the R doesn't come with electronically changeable suspension characteristics?

No, you can flash a standard 1299 to the new EVO systems too, and that doesn't have the DES.

Thanks for the info TJ99! Can any dealership do the flash or do you need any special knowledge? I did not read anything yet that this software upgrade will be released to public by Ducati?

Any dealer should be able to do the flash. It'll take some time before becoming available, it's not out there yet, but will be coming.

Mirror/turn signal & license plate block offs. Is the point to make this a track only bike? Thinking that maybe they throw that stuff inside the crate with the bike to be installed later at the dealer so it can be registered for the street?

I went on Sat and put a deposit for the bike, $1000, dealership has to qualify first, then ducati calls you to make sure you are legit. Sales dude said he will update me as soon as he finds out.
200 are allotted to N. America.
Question: it the bike comes with the slip on, does akrapovic sell the headers and linkage pipes to make it a full ... system without having to buy the slip-on again?

Yes they do and it's quite pricey, but more to the issue is that the way the stock OEM system connects is not the same as the aftermarket Akra version, so you'd need a set of DP Akra pipes, and I don't think they have those. They did for the termi systems though.

It'd be nice if they included quality race bodywork in the same paint scheme. Seems a bit dumb to include mirror block offs and license plate block offs when most people are going to swap for fiberglass bodywork if they're serious about the track anyway.

Just joined this forum because @80shilling talked me into considering a 1299S. I'm completely sold after riding one on a track and seeing this version. I called two dealers to put a deposit down. Hope I'm fortunate enough to own one.

To answer your questions about the header pipes to connect to the slip on. Short answer. No. Some here have tried to make their slips into a full system and have not had much luck. Maybe things will change with this bike.

The Akra Slip-On's come with a dedicated short Ti-Connecting pipe to fit on the clamp mount of OEM exhaust (you can by the same kit for 959/1299)

Additionally, you can buy the DP Akra full Ti-system w/o Slip-ons. This ends directly in the Slip-Ons and does not need the short Ti-Connecting pipe.

So you can buy this kit and it fits to the Akra Slip-on of the Anniversario.

the Akra slip on that this bike comes with is the road legal version meaning it comes with Catalytic converters just like the R. i doubt performance and sound wise it will be any different from the OEM Remus cans as it has to meet emissions and sound regulations. they sure look pretty though.

No, it comes with the (DP) Akra Slip-Ons w/o cats, so not street legal. I assume the street legal exhaust of Anniversario is the OEM silencer of 1299/1299S, not the specific one (made by Akrapovic) of the Panigale R. All press images were taken with the Akra Slip-Ons:

Additional features of Anniversario according to Ducati website:

Laser-inscribed billet aluminium top triple clamp, 90th anniversary graphics, EVO traction and wheelie control, lithium-ion battery with included charger, carbon fibre heel guards, carbon fibre rear mudguard, carbon fibre shock cover, included Akrapovič titanium racing exhaust, billet aluminium mirror hole covers, license plate holder cover
