So wilkson....which was more fun on the track, the desmo or your pani R? Just curious.

If I had either bike I wouldn't make it a garage ornament by any means, but I also think I would be to timid to track it since I couldnt' replace it if it wasn't covered by insurance.

my opinion only - the panigale is easier to ride. The desmo is a 6 or 7 year old technology. . It doesn't have say TC, quickshifter, etc which you would like, but you can add it on (and it works pretty well, possibly better than the pani's version).

the desmo is more raw, harder to ride, and hotter. In terms of pure performance - very very close. Someone I know within a few seconds of the track record has ridden both and they are both within a fraction of each other. For anything outside of an expert rider, its going to be very very hard to extract any sort of decent performance out of the desmo.. .

The desmo is more costly to maintain, more difficult to get parts, etc, etc but outside of out and out performance, if your looking for a "cool factor" at your starbucks get together because you don't track the bike - the desmo will still command way more attention than any panigale right now. .. No idea on the new one until they release it, but if its just a super panigale, I imagine it will continue to be this way. . . Only a few Ducati's will command more attention than the desmo - maybe a 750SS and certainly a Supermono.

I was just curious to hear the differences....

I don't plan on buying either. Too much to spend on something with 2 wheels IMO. But that is just me. Not that I don't admire the desmo, but I am content to park my pani S at starbucks...lol. I may not track my bike, but I get some nice street riding on it and there are some nice twisties out this way. Wouldn't mind tracking the S one of these days though. I just don't think I could ever risk that with the R or the SL is all. I could buy one...but not replace one so that would hinder the fun on the track for me.

Sorry to hear but how the hell did that happen? I would be pissed if that happened to me.. hope the insurance covered some of it

That's where you and I are different . I was happy that I wasn't killed or hurt in any way .Going over the front of a bike at 260km/h your brain tells you this isn't right your going to get hurt .
So after sliding 200meters without even a scratch knowing that god kissed me on the .... that morning the bike was the last thing I was going to be pissed about .
The bike will bee as good as new soon and I will be back at the track I have friend still in a coma from a track accident in May and I'm sue his bike his that last thing on his family's mind .

I wouldn't risk it with the stock panels on track.. a buddy of mine says the vinyl does the job and would save lot on repairs

Jeez.. that's sad.. hope things look up for both of ya

I was stunned when I saw that.. that's like an R gone "TOASTYYYYYYYYY !!!!!!!"

That guy probably was overaggressive on the track that it caught fire.. I wouldn't push the bike to its limit but the fear of lowsiding it will be there no matter what..

You boofhead. Talk about foot in mouth. You stuck your whole leg in.

Good thing W has a good sense of humour.

ACOWSIK is pretty cool and the way he's been crazy about this 1199SL I'm confident he may one of the first guys to purchase the bike..... Acowsik if you're reading this I envy you in advance for the SL Loool

Out of curiousity I called my dealer here in the UK about this Super Leggera and his response was ''I've never heard of it mate''.

He is probably telling the truth. He has not heard of it.

I have said it before but it bears repeating...anyone who buys this bike and runs it on the street is the ultimate poser....

Give me an Hp4 Competition and an Rsv4r Factory for this money...with enough left over for an awesome vacation...

I heartily disagree with this and, in general, any statement that attempts to universally categorize people based on a single variable. Some people just want the best for their own enjoyment regardless of any acknowledgement or recognition they receive from the public for their decision. You see this all the time with cars, why would it be any different with a motorcycle? Personally, I would rather have one bike I thoroughly enjoy over two that I didn't really care for.

If this statement were to be true anyone on a liter bike on the street is the ultimate poser....

How so???

Being a motorcycle enthusiast is too elite with too much criticism. If you have the money buy it enjoy it. People in lamborghinis and r8's and Ferraris are in super cars that serve no purpose in the street because quite frankly you cannot use the car to its optimal performance because it's a RACE CAR but can be driven in the street. No one sas posers take the car to the track!

But motorcycle enthusiasts are a little to aggressive to each other everyone has an opinion or suggestions of how to use your bike or what bike to buy and if you buy this expensive bike then your a "poser" quite frankly the Desmosedici and 1199 are in the same ballpark almost... Why ride them in the street? Isn't that posing if what your definition of posing really means? These bikes are wayyyyyyyy more then we can fathom and if that guy comes down the block in that Ducati super leggerra then let him be its no different then any of us he may have deeper pockets or be a deeper enthusiast.... He prefers to ride it in the streets and he prefers the top of the top best of the best..... Me personally I would get a gtr with that money Lol...... But depending how sick this bike is someone's dream can be someone's reality.....

I will enjoy having a Ducati over any other bike.. others may be similar in performance etc but in looks a Ducati just kills..

I generally always buy the best there is in a model lineup irrespective of whether I use the product to its maximum or not. Its not about bragging rights or anything but I won't have that comfort feel going for a lower model.

If the bike comes with a 3yr warranty and 3 yrs worth of free maintenance (going by what they offered on the D16RR), I would seriously consider making the jump and trade in my R.
