Acowsik, didn't you just buy a R? If getting RR, sell me the R super low. Hehe.

If I get a good price then I would consider it but for now I am waiting to see what kinda trade in numbers do I get through my dealer..

Not really. . if you're building a bike to 'homologate' - that means you're building one to match a spec (so you can compete with it). This isn't that bike. It's a limited edition bike which doesn't appear to be a homologate as the specs are changing.

Oh.. guess I was wrong then..

Am trying to think what are they likely to improve further on the Pani for the next superbike model.. it has close to 200hp, pretty sophisticated electronics already. If ever they do come with something, it will take a while cos the Pani lineup is really kickass already and is selling well.

As far as upcoming models go for the next 2 yrs, this is what I have heard so far..

Limited Pani special edition (500 worldwide)
Monster 821
Monster 1200
Scrambler (for 2015)

I think you've got it wrong. . many who buy these bikes don't go to collectors. We're not talking Ferraris that aren't driven. . . Many who buy these bikes ride them. They might not ride them to commute, but they are ridden. Part of the entire benefit of buying these bikes is that if there is a problem, the 2 year warranty will cover them. After that - all bets are off.

It's like the Desmo - you see them out there. The desmo owners actually take the bikes and go out and ride them. I doubt this will be any different.

well that depends.

the only two desmos i have seen here in the US of A are the two at the Indy MotoGP last year.

on the other hand, i don't get around too much. might be different in NYC or San Fran ...

I have seen them running at VIR so there are some folks out there that ride them.

There are quite a few here in SoCal. I think they are all in ProItalia!s Service Department waiting on parts they can't get. LOL

I was told by my dealer that parts support for a bike runs for atleast 10 years so hopefully the Desmos aren't stuck there for a long time due to lack of parts.. that isnt a good sign otherwise

The desmo was a special machine with a special motor, this bike is a 1199 on steroids so you would think that some of the parts are the same and easier to get

2 buddies with desmos, both on the track regularly, both have crashed them. Neither cared that much because we all share the same view of our bikes...they are tools.

On the other hand, my local dealer has one in the shop that a customer bought, was too scared to ride and asked the shop to ride it for him for the break-in. Just sits in the guy's garage as a trophy-piece.

Don't know how many made it to the US but my guess, unfortunately, would be most live the life of the latter.

This is getting a bit off track - but this is the kind of thing that people who /don't/ own these bikes think of people who /do/ own these bikes. . . Not sure why - maybe its like someone said above - lust breeds contempt. . dunno. ..

the people I know who own desmo's, all ride them. Even the so called motorcycle "collectors" that I know ride their desmo's. I don't know any desmo owners that have their desmo just sitting their as a pinnacle piece gathering dust. thats not saying there aren't any as I am sure there are, but the majority aren't. . And even people on here who know about other desmo owners say the same thing. . .

I think RD16RR on here is selling or just sold his desmo and he put over 24K miles on it. The point being is that while a lot of desmo's might be light on miles, most are ridden. This SL 1199 will probably be the same. . . People willing to pay 65K for a motorcycle are going to ride it. It's not a 200k bike or something that is irreplaceable.

At this point, if I were to drop the cash, I think I'd prefer the Desmo, I hear you could still pick them up new from dealers for around $50K (give or take). At that price Ducati's V4 seems a bit more attractive...though this may change as more information about the new bike gets available .
Does anyone know the name of it yet?

Not sure where you are getting this information. If there were dealers with new Desmo's around - they would be FLYING off the shelf. Even people who previously owned a Desmo would buy a new one at 50K. I think you're sorely mistaken. There was one recent never registered crated desmo that was sold last year for above list price. Thats the last known unregistered desmo that the clock was started.

I'm fairly certain a new desmo NEVER sold for 50K.

I dunno I dislike that paint scheme.

Kind of off topic.....but what do you guys prefer from a super superbike like this...

race replica paint scheme with sponsor graphics and all

or just a cool limited paint scheme like the 1198 corse se or something?

I never understood why people want a bike that has a name of some company on it just to ride it around. It just detracts from the natural beauty of the bike. It's like watching television commercials because you actually enjoy them. I understand it on a race bike since they actually pay the bills.

Could this be a preview of the new Panigale 1199RR... I think so... What do you think...

Well, that certainly doesn't look like a monocoque chassis! It appears as though the forks have been beefed up to the FGR200 and the wheels look like a different design as well.

That's the WSBK 1199R at Laguna seca, they made some changes to the bike to try and be more competitive, it's not the RR

I put nearly 5000 km on mine with at least a dozen track days .

Do you still have ur D16RR or did you trade that in for the Pani? I am sure you would have loved every minute of it while it lasted..

What insurance did u use btw? I may need to change my insurance coverage policy cos GEICO doesn't cover anything track related
