Ducati announces new 1199

I put nearly 5000 km on mine with at least a dozen track days .

Hehe. Did you know any desmo owners who didn't tide them and just had then in their living room ? I am trying to figure out why non-owners seem to think desmo owners just have their desmos in their living room unridden ? Is this a lust breeds contempt scenario ? Same like that big house owner must eat caviar and foie gras in their house and inherited everything .....

Its not just desmo owners.....but ducati owners. There are a lot of them who don't ride the damn things and use it as a status symbol or expensive garage art. Sad but true. No "lust breeds contempt" here....just reality

By the way, the current MotoGP minimum weight limit is 353 lbs, with most bikes running in the 230-245 HP range. These reports suggest an almost MotoGP power to weight ratio spec bike may soon be available for the street. Pretty incredible if true.

Just spoke to my dealer that was at the meeting about this bike, I was told it will be lighter than MotoGP bikes with 210hp... I didn't ask if that was dry or ride ready weight, saw pics of it looks exactly like the 1199R except its the Ducati competition color, that red-orange color. I was told 60K and offered the option to put one on order.

The bike is apparently called "Super Leggera".. idk if the proper name is 1199 Panigale Super Leggera or 1199 Super Leggera

Dealer has put my name down and I will have to wait for the email to come in on more details of what stuff is on the bike..

wow - one of the first things acowsik has right in this thread so far is the name of the bike. .. . I've been hinting at it for who knows how long now. Can't find my old post as I remember posting it and someone followed up with that we were naming our bikes after Lambo models - and I then said - (follow the ownership tree). . anyhow, look at post #191 where I hinted at the SL above - though I doubt the model will be 1199SL.

Yeah, but I'd argue its the opposite with the Desmo type of bikes. . Eventhough its a much smaller subset of numbers - I would venture to guess that a larger percentage of desmo owners have tracked their bikes than the Ducati owners.. . The DRC owners group in Europe still have ownership meetings each year on track. I think this year its at Magny and 60 showed up ?? In one year they had over 100. You figure Europe had an allotment of maybe 500-600 Desmo's. . Thats 15% of Desmos who have been to a track. . US isn't that far different. . . There were some Desmo's that were track only.

For once I don't get bashed.. else I have been a punching bag on this thread.. hopefully the thread title can be changed to reflect the name now that we know what its most likely gonna be called

Do you still have ur D16RR or did you trade that in for the Pani? I am sure you would have loved every minute of it while it lasted..

What insurance did u use btw? I may need to change my insurance coverage policy cos GEICO doesn't cover anything track related

Sadly the Desmosedici has moved on to a new owner . It had a year left on warranty and figured I had had my fun with it without having to cost me too much to maintain .
We don't have insurance that covers track . I would buy another one day .

No . I did know some that just babied around on them and would never think of going to the track but that's not a exclusive club as I know many of the same breed who own other brands and models of superbike .

Majority of insurance companies nowadays don't cover any track days even if its with a riding school, unless there are some who do but for a bike like the Desmo / Super Leggera it will cost an arm and a leg to get track day coverage.. Unless you are willing to afford a lot out of pocket in repairs, these bikes are gonna stick to the street..

If I had one, it is surely not getting tracked and would have a dedicated track bike when I have the cushion to afford one in addition to this.. tracking these limited ones are not worth the risk no matter how skilled you are..

When I ride a motorcycle my safety comes first the bike comes second .
I would rather ride a motorcycle like this in a controlled environment where my safety is Number 1.
No point having your bike replaced by the insurance company if your not around to enjoy it .

That's true.. but on a track day your safety may be fine even if you are not going too fast but if you lowside the bike for some reason, the insurance will not pay a penny..

If I ever think of tracking it knowing about the insurance coverage, I would switch out the carbon fiber panels for race ones and vinyl them.. that way if I end up having to repair something it will be a lot cheaper

Sounds great . Is vinyl fire resistant ?

So wilkson....which was more fun on the track, the desmo or your pani R? Just curious.

If I had either bike I wouldn't make it a garage ornament by any means, but I also think I would be to timid to track it since I couldnt' replace it if it wasn't covered by insurance.

Depends on the insurance company. some insurance companies cover non-timed track events.

But regardless of whether it covers it or not - most buying the bike, that track/insurance isn't the primary motivation for riding it and enjoying it.

Look at any given track day - most don't have insurance. And if you talk true value - most cars going around the track have a much higher value than a 65K panigale. . . I mean hell, take any Porsche car event - the majority of the cars going around the track are north of 65K. 911 Turbo's(200k), 959's, panamera turbo's (175k), caymans, etc, etc. . . take a ferrari event - EVERY SINGLE one of them is way more expensive than 65k on an order of magnitude. .. But realistically a 65k motorcycle you're talking about a car about the price of a Mercedes E class or mid-high end Lexus.

So people who regularly buy decent cars and buy this bike - it's not a big deal. its going to be ridden, it might get tracked if thats their fancy, and its just another bike (albeit a nice one). It's people who are stretching to try and get something like this that are "afraid" to then ride it. Think of it as you bought a sporty sedan/sports car that you're going to enjoy and everything else is then fine. . .

They are both great but I prefer the Panigale .

I was stunned when I saw that.. that's like an R gone "TOASTYYYYYYYYY !!!!!!!"

That guy probably was overaggressive on the track that it caught fire.. I wouldn't push the bike to its limit but the fear of lowsiding it will be there no matter what..
