I don't intend on gettin married again nor do I plan to buy a house so my situation is different from most people here..

So is this the bike that is supposed to be co-branded with Lamborghini?

Based on the rumored specs, I'm starting to come around to that idea but still think that Audi makes a better marketing fit. They've got to start to justify the purchase that was put on their books, and not Lamborghini's or VW's...

it will be so sad NOT seeing these crazy badass bikes on the streets.

they are doomed to die in the living rooms, or even worse, garages or basements of the "collectors"

Keep talking yourself into it....lol.

Still wouldn't touch your retirement account.

I just spoke to the guy at my dealership who deals with financing and they said that something could be worked out with the trade-in to get the deposit on the new Pani..

I will get more concrete numbers next week on the readjusted loan etc so I am still evaluating my options to see if it eventually works out or not and will take a decision after I get a complete breakdown of the numbers.

My 401k would be safe btw and won't be touched so I don't have to end up doing something totally bizarre and end up getting slammed here...

whatever floats your boat. Get what you want.

The novelty of it is going to wear off after a year or two and there will be something better out. Not that you shouldn't buy it if it means that much to you...but just remember that is all.

This is coming from personal experience.....better to appreciate what you have than the lust after what you don't....it's a bad road to go down as you will never be content for very long.

Point taken.. no offense at all..

Did you end up buying a bike like this which u later regretted? If so which model was it?

I have been buying bikes left and right for years....

2006 zx636, 2007 zx10r, 2009 ducati 1198S, 2010 MV Agusta F4, 2010 BMW S1000rr, 2011 ZX10r, and the newest one the 2012 Panigale S.

Doesn't matter what you buy it's like a damn computer....it's outdated the moment you take it home. Some other bike manufacturer comes out with something else to lust after. I've spent way too much on bikes and lost way too much selling them to get a new one. I'm done with that .....

Honestly my Panigale S (followed closely by the ninja zx10r GEN 4) are the favorite bikes out of all the ones I have owned. It's not an R, and certainly not an RR, but the S puts a smile on my face everytime I ride it or go look at it in the garage. Everyone I see riding it is envious and I get so many comments on it. SO while I too would love to have the RR (or even the R for that matter), I need to take a step back and realize the bike I have now is badass and I have not one real complaint with it. It's the best bike I have ever had.

You could buy 3-4 bikes for the price of a RR.....that would be way more fun IMO. Or you could just ride the snot out of that badass R you already have (which I am jealous of) and be happy with that :)

I regretted buying the MV Agusta to answer your question....Beautiful...but I didn't like riding it.

-- buy it, ride it, write your own article......if you are fortunate enough to do that, enjoy all of them as best you can - lust can breed contempt :)

Damn.. u got a really big stable of bikes there.. I had a 200cc Honda for 9 years so my bike lasted long enough.. the reason I am pondering the trade is cos I would have directly jumped on the limited Pani had I known abt it and would not have gone for the R. Surprisingly no one has ever commented at me on the street.. weird considering Minneapolis is a pretty big biking place..

I felt really sad when I had to sell my Honda when I had to come back to the US.. it served its purpose well and I loved it while it lasted. There were better bikes for sure available but I still kept mine..

I build computers too and have a high end gaming desktop at home.. I build a new one every 4 or 5 years so they last me for a while eventhough the technology advances faster than the bikes do..

Change is inevitable but "limited editions" are blue moons that don't come often..

Not if I get one! I'll ride it within 90% of what I can manage on my R. My philosophy has always been, ride it like you stole it!

I get the whole collector's thing though...I mean do you see what passes as modern art these days? What people pay for it? $65K is a margin and it is art in motion :)

My guess is this would be the so called last "homologation special" (that's the term used for these specially made ones with racing grade parts) due to the change in WSBK rules for 2014 to only allow production bikes to limit cost and close the loophole which manufacturers have been exploiting all along...

So maybe this Pani would be more special compared to the Desmosedici RR

Not really. . if you're building a bike to 'homologate' - that means you're building one to match a spec (so you can compete with it). This isn't that bike. It's a limited edition bike which doesn't appear to be a homologate as the specs are changing.

I think you've got it wrong. . many who buy these bikes don't go to collectors. We're not talking Ferraris that aren't driven. . . Many who buy these bikes ride them. They might not ride them to commute, but they are ridden. Part of the entire benefit of buying these bikes is that if there is a problem, the 2 year warranty will cover them. After that - all bets are off.

It's like the Desmo - you see them out there. The desmo owners actually take the bikes and go out and ride them. I doubt this will be any different.
