Thanks Charlie. I was thinking about going up on Sunday before and make a week of it. Jay - please let me know if you can get a good week rate for me as part of the group. I've stayed there a few times and it really is great with a garage next to the room.

I do prefer to stay in a Franklin, NC as there are many more road options IMHO. You can go east to the Gap/Cherohala, west/nw to Cashiers and up the best part of the Blue Ridge Parkway then down 276, southwest to Blood Mountain/Suches and southeast to some secluded mountain passes at the SC/NC border.

That's my neck of the woods. Blood Mtn/Suches/etc part of my regular Sunday morning rides. Great roads.

You guys come south from Robbinsville on that Thursday 15th and I can meet you on the way up (my route will take me over Blood Mtn/180) and show you some nice roads.

That's the week following the Ducati.MS rally. I think it's booked by the Mini-Cooper guys. I know there was some conflict there and they had to schedule just before or just after the Mini rally.

Checked there, there are at least 8 rooms available from Tuesday 5/13 - Sunday 5/18 at $85 per night with tax.

Franklin "nicer" hotels are a bit more, like $115. I not picky as I'm in a hotel for shower and sleep so I stay at the Budget Inn for about $45 a night all-in. It's 3 miles from 28 that is an epic 56 miles to Deal's Gap Resort. Plus, I've got some great routes going East and also South to Blood Mtn. I usually do about 300-400 miles a day when I go to the mountains on a sportbike, wearing out a set of knee pucks in the process.

Crap! Sharing the Gap with a Mini-Cooper group? That's pretty scary. Makes my want to do my Franklin to points East and South much more...

No need to panic. A google search reveals the Minis have the weekend scheduled *before* the Ducati.ms week of 7-11th (i.e. April 30 - May 4).

If we're willing to go a little farther, Blue Ridge M/C Campground has cabins. I've spent a lot of time there. Some very good roads also around there. The Gap is about 50 miles away. Waynesville is close with plenty of places to eat, gas, etc.

Jay - any update on this? I really want to go as I haven't been up in the Smoky Mtns for a couple years since my son was born. I was checking around and found the Quality Inn in Andrews, NC for $58 a night plus tax (about $64 all-in). It's a very twisty 39 miles to Deal's Gap Resort and and equally twisty 49 miles down to Blood Mountain, GA. Wiener Schnitzel for lunch in Helen, anyone?

There are still rooms available at Deals Gap Resort.

Motel & Camping at Deal's Gap Motorcycle Resort, Deals Gap, NC and the Great Smoky Mountains

Charlie and I are staying a local friends place in Robbinsville.

Jeff I'd stay away from Andrews, and Murphy. It may only be 39 miles away, but with the traffic it will take you 2 hours to make it to the Gap.
