Finally got a date - Australia

All I can say is I wish it was mine. Looks like mine will come in aug. too long......

Mines landed in Australia, now they have to ship it across the country, coming Tues/Wed next week

Is anyone here dealing with Fraser Motorcycles in Sydney? I have my S ordered through them from last Nov, don't have a firm delivery date yet, but should hopefully be soon. Just curious for any customer comments on them, I have not dealt with them before.

By the way on insurance my best so far is QBE - $1,700 (I am 40, full no claims bonus in Eastern Suburbs). Shannons quoted me $1,800. Have not tried NRMA. Any other suggestions for other providers?

Horatio, I got my S from Frasers Sydney, so far they have been excellent, no complaints here.

Good luck

Delivery confirmed next Wed, 23rd May.

What DP parts are people ordering? Tail tidy seems a no brainer, along with at least a few carbon bits.

Just spoke to my dealer who is saying the base models are due august. That's the first shipment of base models to AUS. I hope this is wrong.

My tri is coming in the aug shipment. When did you place your deposit?

My dealer contacted me to day....my base model is on the water. Delivery will be around the 2nd June.

I'm dealing with Fraser Sydney and put my deposit roughly the same time. My bike is locked in and hand over for me is Thursday 24th May. They Mentioned to me they have about 30 bikes and people who have ordered DP parts and wanted them fitted are getting bumped back as they want to get the bikes out quick.

Yep, I heard the same from Fraser. Mine will be a stock bike next Wed 23rd, then any DP parts will come later.

Anyone contemplating Dyno run-in? Know good shops in Sydney for this?

Just spoke to David at Sydney Dyno, His asking $400 +filter and Oil. Will take about a day to run it in. He'll pick the bike up in his van and take it to his Dyno. Im considering it, what do you the rest of you guys think of Dyno run ins?

That sounds reasonable to me.
I'm guessing a Ducati dealer would charge you almost as much for an oil/filter change anyway.
Considering the time on the dyno + oil change + pick up, that sounds good to me.
I'm a little worried about warranty though, if / when Ducati plug the bike in and see it was not run-in anything close to "by the book"

What you do think?

Interesting. Did he say what steps were involved? i.e. how we would do it?

This thread is pretty good on the break in topic.

http://ducati1199.com/ducati-1199/689-engine-run-debate.html

Honestly, it's not all that easy to manage a good street break in if you live inner city - gotta basically plan a 1000k's in the country over maybe a weekend or two. And even in country there it is tough to really work through the gears like you should without spending lots of time in lower gears and dawdling through traffic and townships. Certainly no way you can really do it inner city, you'll just get stuck in traffic.

That's the main reason I am considering leaving it to a Dyno shop.

There is a wide range of views on this topic, and little fact, as far as I can see. Room for lots of myth and confusion about what really happens to the engine at the factory, and what needs to happen once delivered.

I don't think I am a total idiot, but with my few brain cells I just can't seem to find a way of really drilling down to FACT as to whether it is beneficial to do a dyno break in versus a street break in. All my googling throws up lots of "belief" and little fact.

Thoughts on a postcard please? Evidence?

kinda hard to re write what he said, but give him a call he'll explain everything to you. 0418 224 000 David

In a nutshell you want to reduce "piston slapping" and have the bike under a constant load. Driving down the freeway or a road with no incline and engine breaking as in throttling off will produce this piston slapping. He would get the engine up to temp go through the rev range then let the bike cool down and do it again. The bike would only do roughly 100-200km then its completely run in with new oil and filter.

Pretty much what Austin Racing was talking about in another thread.

Interesting. Did he say what steps were involved? i.e. how we would do it?

Agreed.

For what it is worth I believe that to break in a Ducati well lots of hills are needed. A good country run that will give you every possible scenerio is optimal for good bedding in of all engine parts.
I have done this on all my bikes and all have had no troubles later on in their life.

I will bring up this subject with Arthur Davis tomorrow, one of the best Ducati tuners in Australia and see what his thoughts are on this.
