kinda hard to re write what he said, but give him a call he'll explain everything to you. 0418 224 000 David

In a nutshell you want to reduce "piston slapping" and have the bike under a constant load. Driving down the freeway or a road with no incline and engine breaking as in throttling off will produce this piston slapping. He would get the engine up to temp go through the rev range then let the bike cool down and do it again. The bike would only do roughly 100-200km then its completely run in with new oil and filter.

Pretty much what Austin Racing was talking about in another thread.

Interesting. Did he say what steps were involved? i.e. how we would do it?

"I just can't seem to find a way of really drilling down to FACT as to whether it is beneficial to do a dyno break in versus a street break in. All my googling throws up lots of "belief" and little fact."

Agreed.

For what it is worth I believe that to break in a Ducati well lots of hills are needed. A good country run that will give you every possible scenerio is optimal for good bedding in of all engine parts.
I have done this on all my bikes and all have had no troubles later on in their life.

I will bring up this subject with Arthur Davis tomorrow, one of the best Ducati tuners in Australia and see what his thoughts are on this.

Thanks Wallaroo. Agreed, if I lived in the country I would probably just get out there. But the first miles are the most important I think for a break in, and Frasers is smack in the middle of Parramatta Road! Will be interested in your feedback.

Hi guys.....Just a quick update on your questions.

Spent a good day chatting Panigale and lucky enough this bike was actually taken out for a run, but more on that later.

Re the Dyno V ridden run in, the concensous was if you live in the city get it Dynoed and if you are near lots of hills then ride it.

thanks for the advice, but how critical is the first 50kms of riding the bike?David from Sydney Dino wants the bike from km 1. I just want to jump on the bike and ride it to him, since I've been hanging out for months now. Otherwise Im heading to blue Mountains to see my parents and do the running in up there.

Note the dealer tells me it will be delivered with about 10km on it, as they are required to test ride it by law. Hmmm.

Im leading towards David at Sydney Dyno, however I'm in the Eastern Suburbs and would like something closer to the city as his in Fountain Dale near the Entrance. Im going to call around tomorrow I think. If you Guys are keen we should get together and see if we can get a discount if we all go

Stupid auto correct .... Dyno run-in in Sydney.

No worries for the info, it was interesting to hear what Arthur had to say.

Also discussed was the settings between F and P and as I said this bike was taken for a run due to the problems that had occured because this bike had travelled around the country only being started reved and switched off and it was set on F.
I had just done the same route on my 996R so I knew how bad the road was in sections and what I was told is that on the F setting it was no worse than any Ducati sports bike in fact he said due to rider position it was a bit better.
So if it was me I would leave it in F and see for yourselves, which is what I am going to do.
As I said elsewhere there does not seem to be any difference between comfort seat and race seat that is supplied by Ducati except covering, but there is a huge difference between the comfort seat for the pillion and the standard....if you are going to stick someone on the back, be nice to them and get the comfort one.

I did not get to see the tail tidy but I did get to see all the other carbon parts by Ducati and I must say what a huge improvement thay have made in their products.
I have the clutch cover now and it is very well made.
Also we talked about the add on's to the front fairing and aparently you will get a extra 3-4k/hr if you fit them, but I would use something to protect your paint work when putting them on.

To be cont..
