For the street legal version mounted at the factory you are right, but we are talking about the not street legal Akra slip-ons available for the Panigale R 2015 from DP compared to the race kit with the same slip-ons, but obviously different flapper vlave free big Ti-collector from the SL.

OHHHHH yep I need to read. Sorry. Going back to my pop up books now.

I think your dealer did tell you something wrong, the Racing Kit of the SL contained the big Y-Ti-Collector w/o flapper valve, see images below....

Yes, indeed they did...as I was typing that last post I immediately thought of having a picture of what was in the box that came with the SL - funny how genius minds think the same :D

It would now seem to me, that the $3855 price tag is what's in that box "how sweet it is" :)

Add on a carbon subframe & carbon body work....different wheels and that might just be the SL (Gecko/Jogy, what do you say, what differences are left?)...with the 2015 R being the SL for the masses ---- "ooo, a red one.....I'll take it" !!

I don't think that the full Akra for the 1199 has a smaller diameter (it's about 60mm on the main pipes vs. 55mm of the 1199 OEM exhaust) compared to the full Akra for the 1299 offered officially with Ducati Performance labelling on the Ducati website, at least estimated from the image. The main improvement of the full Akra (definetely for 1199 and according to Ducati site also for the 1299) is in the mid engine speed range.

An experienced guy here in Germany told me that the 70mm full Termi exhaust mainly improves max. power output, not midrange performance. So I would really wonder if the official 1299 Akra has a bigger diameter than 60mm.

But maybe I'm wrong....

For what its worth midrange is where I got the greatest gain with the akra. I think it was 10nm torque at 5 k over oem.

Be careful buying from Carbonworld! I have bought parts for my bike on two occasions and both times at least one of the parts didn't fit even though it was listed for my bike.

it seems like we will have to wait and see - i would like to think it would be the same exhaust as the SL...i was at my Ducati dealer last week, and was told the SL exhaust retained the flapper valve, and that it stays in the fully open position (the pipe section the flapper is in was not replaced when they installed the race slip-ons) but it is possible i did not understand it 100% correctly

- TJ99 seems very well informed, and knows who to ask for the correct information....do you know, does he work for Ducati directly ?

Let's end the mystery. Product Manager of Superbike, Diavel, and Streetfighter families. So it's true that I know who to ask to get the correct info :D

At the launch now. Bike is killer. For those who want to read the first ride reports, they should come from the UK publications/sites in the next day or two. Check Ducati UK twitter for a preview

what is the advantage of the upper cmc triple clamp ?

At the moment purely asthetic. Im not sure that it adds anything performance/handling wise. I just think theres too much bare metal look on the bike.

HFW thanks for the heads up. I'll make sure i order from a good supplier.

TJ- Woah. The man is on the forum. as others have said before. Thank you for taking the time to answer our questions and hearing our concerns and praises.

First impressions....

Ducati 1299 Panigale S review: First impressions | Bike Social

"As a bike to learn the track on they don't come much better. It's explosive power is everywhere in any gear. There's no waiting for a powerband, it just goes bam everywhere, in every gear. The electronics are calming things down but it's still wheelying into sixth gear on the power as you come onto the start finish straight - we'll adjust the wheelie control later!"

"The downshift system makes you feel like a MotoGP star and feels at home straight away. It's incredible. We haven't used the cornering ABS much yet but it's great to know it's there. In sport mode it's using a lot of traction control. It turns better, stops better and goes better than the 1199. What more do you need to know? Early days but what a bike."

Full test when we've put some more miles on the bike!

LED headlights, Ti rear spring, Mg monocoque, some Ti bolts, front and rear stand and cover ;)

EDIT: The one thing that is really of interest: same crankshaft??? the one with the tungsten inlets? That would be awesome!!

TJ would be best to answer, but all the pres releases I saw said the 15 R has the same crankshaft as the SL.

Thanks for the info!!! I can not wait till April to get my S model..I already paid for 10 track days at my local track and signed up for a 2 day advanced racing school...I have been riding expert level for the last 2 years and cant wait till I get this bike on the track..

I've heard from a good source that the 2015R has a lighten crank with tungsten inserts, but the literature didn't say it was the SL crank.

Gotcha, assumption on my part when I saw tungsten inserts and lightened crank.

As the person was reading me all the details of the bike, I also was asking, "does that mean SL this, SL that"? He insisted that the literature didn't come out and say, "same as on the SL". Some of the stuff may well be just that, but I'm going by what I was told as the person was reading the docs. He did say this bike is going to be very different than the current R. Lighter, faster and but outright better. So, for me, moving from my 2012 base, to the 2015 R, I'm excited. He said this bike will be a big step above the current R based on electronics alone. It's going to spin up fast as well.

Very nice indeed ! The factory seems to know how to treat Ducati enthusiasts :D

Time to sell the bikes....

Not only am I keeping mine, but I'm jumping on the extended warranty bandwagon. Elated to be riding a bike that's not only paid for and modded my way, but one I'm also familiar with all the quirks of. 15K of factory warranty-covered labor over 2 shop visits in the first 6mo (and nothing after that) tells me it's a smart purchase.

A rich, wise man (but not old) once told me "never sell your toys if you can help it." It'll keep you from impulsive upgrades unless a shitload of money is thrown at you to make a deal.

Hey TJ,

Whenever you get a chance after the press release. Do you have a price on the AUX Buttons for the 1299 base model to add on? Thanks
