Hey everyone

I’m looking for the front fork preload adjusting tool, that fits the blue anodized fork tops, for my V4SP.

I recently purchased an Ohlins tool to adjust the rear shock sag but can’t seem to locate one for the front.

Does Ohlins even make one for the front or do you use some generic socket or wrench for this?

Thx
Dan

Socket

Thanks Burton.

The 8 pins on the socket are not required then? What are they for anyway? Slightly worried about marring the anodized blue. Not the end of the world obviously but rather keep the cosmetics mint…

Regardless, Ohlins must have something for this unless I’m being delusional…

Its a simple socket, and yes the paint on them is made of cheese so you will mark it. That's what they are for - its a vehicle remember.

The small holes are for locating the Ohlins fork tool that allows you to unwind the fork top for changing springs or fork oil volume. Although, it's just as easy to use a socket on the preload adjuster, wind all the preload off, and keep winding to remove the fork top. Ensure all the pinch bolts at the top are loose if you do this though.

You will loose a bit of anodising unfortunately.

Sounds good. Thanks for the info Tom and Rick.

I’ll tape up the nut to protect it as much as possible but yea if it happens it happens.

Is the socket a 32mm?

I believe it is and will confirm in about an hour when I am at home. If you are particular about keeping them looking good without marks on the nut I would recommend using a sandwich bag or similar under the socket. That will keep the socket from messing them up.

pretty sure it’s a 17mm - if you’re stressing the marks put a paper towel on the nut first - it will be fine

Bp you the man!

As much as I’m a supporter of “if it ends up marring then deal with it”, I’d rather have a mint work of art in the living room…over the winter season at least.

I just placed the order for the Anti-Marr Bp linked. But thx for the input Roop.

On a side note, Tom you mentioned it would be the same socket as the front wheel nut. However from what I see, the front wheel nut is 30mm not 32mm. Is this not correct?

Feel free to chime in, this is a wicked forum…minus your typical negative posters, like all forums. Respect.

If the proper tool is out there, why not just get it? Especially if its $9. The anodized blue caps are pretty soft. I wish they just left them anodized without the blue dye job so any tool marks wouldn't show as easily.

Front axel is 30mm.

Yezzir…tool is ordered. Agree with you, why not attempt to preserve the anodized surface…especially at 9$.

And thanks for confirming the front nut is, in fact, a 30mm.

I'm pretty sure the preload adjuster is 17mm. Although, that's on the non electric forks. If yours are electric, ignore me ;-D

the original question was the asking about the preload adjuster.....(which is 17mm)....because he (the OP) also said "that fits the blue anodized fork tops", the confusion unfolded

the only Front Fork Preload Adjusting Tool is a 17mm socket, open or box end wrench (also 17mm) or channel locks :) (i guess a pair pf pliers could work too)
