@AmpForE I can't give you an angle. The tool plugs into the side of the bike and then an insert with a center hole is used to take a measurement between two points. There is a specific distance I want and I adjust shock length to get there. That measurement isn't something that would help you unless you had the Corse tool and I am not likely to reveal that info on a public forum. I gave some useful info just above....

@EffeRed the Corse ride height tool costs over a grand and NO the swingarm angle and position is not set from the factory for track use. I had to lengthen the shock by 6.5 turns on this 2014 1199R I set up this past week.

I DO agree with the idea that engineers and manufacturers do make good handling motorcycles from the get go - Aprilia does this better than anybody. Problem is folks think they know better and start changing gearing, tires, forks, shocks, etc and don't have good tools to understand how these changes affect the motorcycle. A BIG part of what I do for my customers is "un-.... the bike", lol.

Let's start with this.....what gearing are you currently running? I recently installed 15/42 with a swingarm length of 545 mm (106 chain links), -2 degrees swingarm pivot - this works pretty well on the 1199/1299.
I have 15/39 with a chain with stock length, 104 links.

This is a copy of the Corse ride height tool. It’s as good or better than the Ducati issue. I paid under 400 for mine. Not sure if there are any left out there.

Very interesting! Could you share a link where to find it?

Yeah not many if these left floatingaround. I got one years ago when they were available as well so it's one them special tools to keep. Dan Kyle might have a clone version still available but not sure on that.

Better pics of the one I have.

Never used a ride height tool. Is there that much force really being exerted on it?

I was just thinking the frame would be a cheaper, easier to cut material be it wood or a composite. The hardware would be steel.

What is the point of owning a 30k+ machine and not spending a few hundred dollars to make it work perfectly in ALL environments?

btw, all forks should be completely serviced every 2-3 years or every 5K miles. Shocks generally double the service interval of the fork.
This. I got my fork cartridges exchanged by Kyle Racing and we found that the outer seals were already cracked after 2.5 yrs and 8k miles. Fork oil also gets contaminated and thins as it gets worked.

So I have an idea for those who want the PROPER setup done right, which means gearing, swingarm pivot and swingarm angle in addition to geometry adjustments for different tires....

Dan Kyle has 13 of their ride height tools in stock and available as of yesterday - they cost $330 plus tax (if applicable) plus shipping. I can get a group buy together through my business OR I can make arrangements to buy one that can be passed around to the members who don't live in Southern California. So I need to know how many people would be interested in buying the tool OR how many people want to get involved in passing a tool around. The former situation is pretty easy, I find out how many people want them, I buy them and send them out and I can set a price for the part + shipping + some reasonable fee for my setup info. The later situation I can buy the tool and we can create a list where that tool's cost is covered + shipping and then that person who is borrowing the tool would ship it on to the next person who would then confirm receipt and pay that person who sent it for the tool's cost and so on....

My reputation is important to me therefore your satisfaction is key.

What I will provide is a gearing chart with ideal swingarm length, some tricks to get more adjustment range on the stock swingarm, recommendations on swingarm pivot, the specific setting to get swingarm angle correct using the tool, rebound and compression settings for both the fork and shock for track and street use and geometry settings for different tires, steering damper settings, tire pressures and I will work with each individual to get the bike and rider sag correct. If you don't have the tools I will tell you what tools you need to order and/or parts like the correct spring rates for your weight.

Keep in mind, none of this is cheap. Fork springs cost about $175 shipped, shock spring $150. A couple of special tools are need to swap fork springs, a spring compressor for shock is necessary to change springs but most reputable shops have these tools they just don't know much about how to tune suspension - that's how I can help :)

Keep in mind this is LOTS of work and although some may find the price high, I charge $350 for a full bike setup with spring changes and fork travel indicator which I continue to fine-tune while the customer owns the bike. Since I would be doing this work remotely I will cut that fee significantly. Not one person in the 20+ years I have been setting up motorcycles has been disappointed with the results and in fact most people can't believe the difference.

I do prefer to do this work in person so I know it is done perfectly but for those who can't visit my shop in SoCal I am willing to help remotely as I have done this time to time.

After I hear back from those interested then I can start a new thread dedicated to the Panigale single-side swingarm TWIN engine motorcycles: 1199 / 1299 / 1299 FE / Superleggera 1199 and 1299 / V2

Let me know....

Count me in!

For the tool, first I need to check what will be the impact of shipment and taxes: from past experiences I know that from USA to NL this can be huge...

Since this is only for twin cylinder single sided swing arm bikes, I'm out. But, if you had the tool and could offer a scale drawing that would be helpful and much cheaper to send to NL. All it looks to be is a jig to fixture and measure. That doesn't have to be some insane CNC 7075 billet aluminum piece.

@bp_SFV4 this tool is only for the platform I talked about above. The V4 is different. I have a setup for that as well but this thread is meant for advice, not to give away my secrets for free :)

I'm in for purchasing the tool for my 2021 V2. I need to get the front end sorted (too soft of springs) and I am not sure how the rear is (dropped one tooth on the front sprocket).
