I read somewhere that the cost is significant if done post design and minimal when designed and integrated at the beginning of bike design.
It always costs significantly more to do it right the second time around.
It just seems so odd. Here is a bike with SO much thought put into it and with such 'outside of the box' thinking yet the fuel gauge is left as an idiot light.
Maybe they were so track focused during design that they figured all they need to do is indicate that fuel is low. All other fuel levels are irrelevant.
For me, I just hate having warning lights. They are so annoying. But then again, I guess that is the whole point, eh? It's like the bike is saying; "Hey you need to get gas and if you run out, well, I warned you and you are an idiot."
