Full Akro Too Loud!

This may sound strange to you, but I bought a slightly used 1299 with a "Full Akropovic" exhaust and it is just too loud for where I ride and when I ride. Don't get me wrong, I love it. However, I ride early in the morning on Sundays in the canyons of Southern California and quite frankly, this thing is so loud I can't ride like I want because I'm too busy keeping the pipes as quiet as I can.

I suspect any db killers have been removed, but I don't know what to look for; it is damn loud.

What are my options? I've seen stock mufflers on Ebay. Would they fit? Can I buy something like a DB Killer for these Akro mufflers?

Thank you for tolerating this strange request.

Which canyons you riding in btw? I was born and raised right t 210/Angeles Crest

I have stock pipes with akro slip ons, it isn't too loud, your question makes me want to upgrade to the full setup. Keep the full setup and enjoy the blueing. The full setup is definitely on my upgrades list.

Often just a quick 125 miler through the Malibu mountains up to Decker. Little Tujunga, bouquet Canyon, Angeles Forest and Big Tujunga is a nice loop near 200 miles. My favorite ride is Hwy 33 from Fraser Park to Ojai.

BTW, I rode Angeles Crest Hwy in the 70's and 80's a lot. Had many bikes since then and rode the ACH occasionally. For the last 20 years it has turned into an unsafe mess, as has Glendora Mtn Road, so I generally stay away from it. Too bad, it is a great ride.

Ear plugs and slowly get used to it and not worry about it. :)

I have custom earplugs and I like the pipes as they are. My problem is I rattle windows everywhere I go and I'm constantly worried about the $1000 ticket we have in California for modified exhaust.

It does sound great to me though!

See if you can find someone who is willing to sell you the dB killers for the Akra. It'll reduce the opening and sound. You can see where the attachment screw attaches at the rear of the silencer under the rubber plug on the backside of the carbon trim.

I think we would all jump on the opportunity to swap out exhaust, I'd pay and ship you the stock exhaust with the akra slip ons before you even sent the full system. But honestly, I'd keep the exhaust and just find the inserts to muffle the sound a bit, the full system gives the bike value and looks better.

Issue also is the cost to swap exhaust. Labor.

I felt the same but 10,000k's later its pure music. Two things though, don't .... in your nest and wear earplugs :)

Very helpful. Thank you.

Just in case someone in the future has the same interest, here are the part numbers for the DB Killers/baffles for the 1299 Akrapovic cans:

one each of V-TUV138 and V-TUV138/L

The Baffle Bolts are P-FB28, also one each

Cycle gear and Revzilla may be able to order the baffles but neither stocks them. Baffles and bolts are apparently available from Japan if you search these part numbers. They also have complete Akra parts explosion diagrams for the 1299 exhaust.

Thanks to all contributors.
