Full suit for the streets?

I'm pretty bad I use jeans, race boots and jacket on the road

I was even worse, i had the jacket, jeans and alpinestars motorcycle shoes. I always thought the boots were too clunky for the street but i finally got a pair of real race boots this year and i wore the astars shoes once and i honestly felt like i was bare feet after having real protection

maybe it's just me but i can't help feeling you look a bit of a knob sporting a full race suit on the street.

I'm all for wearing the appropriate gear but a 2pc is a more sensible choice.

Good luck

I use my one piece on the street for Sunday morning canyon rides or any serious ride. The small pocket on the inside is enough for a phone and my wallet and that's all I really need or bring with me. In addition to the extra abrasion protection, one piece suits also offer better flexibility. It's much easier to move around on the bike fully geared up. That's my main reason for suiting up.

I think some people overestimate the amount of protection offered by the suit. They're designed to save your skin when you slide, but all bets are off if you hit a pole or collide with a car. It's like putting a jelly donut in a ziplock and throwing it against a wall. Sure, it's all in there still but it's not exactly ok.

Lol. Well said.

I used to think the Sunday bunch in full leathers was a bit of overkill but now literally everyone is out in full leather suits. Now I feel under dressed in the jacket , jeans and boots get up..... I got camo riding pants last week.

Every time I go canyon riding (sat or sun morning ride) I wear 1 piece, I've even done it under the Vegas summer heat.... I just got used to it and like the feeling of knowing my skin will be safe!

I used to ride with a 1 piece all the time, but only during the long weekend spirited rides. If I were to do it again, I'll echo some of the other posts and say that a 2 piece is the way to go. Take the jacket off, much easier to relief myself etc... go with a 2 piece!

So as im getting older and wiser, ive been pondering the thought of getting into a full suit(1pc) for purely street riding to protect my .... Ive always just had the jacket, gloves boots but i think its time to go all the way. For the guys that ride street with 1 pc, what are the cons of it? I know ill never have the option to take the jacket off if were eating but other than that what else should i expect? Thanks guys

The cons are going to the bathroom while you are out. Think about it, you are either coming out of the suit entirely or the top half will be all over a public bathroom floor.

For street riding I recommend a full two piece suit.

And you don't want a jacket that zips to a matching pant. You want a full 2pc Suit. It comes together and sold together and the zipper is a full 360 around your waist. When you start shopping you will see the difference. Someone recommended a loose fit 1pc, and that reduces the effectiveness of the suit. All gear should be skin tight just short of reduced mobility.

I've been to the track with my 2pc alpinestars.

I will say this, 1pc suits are more comfortable, but less practical for the street and much harder to get into and out of especially if it fits skin tight and properly.

I find these sort of discussions somewhat humorous. If we were ALL about safety we would be in cars, not motorcycles. We are all drawing our own lines as to how safe is safe enough. I don't wear leather at all (I did race many years ago, so I have been in full leathers many times).

I wear padded textile riding gear, good boots, a good helmet and gloves. In the summer it is all ventilated gear. I wear all the gear every time I ride on all of my bikes year around. I could care less what I look like because at my age the only woman that cares or matters is my wife.

That's where I draw the line.

Dainese Mig Jacket and pant 2 piece during spirited rides; works great, paints flow tons of air, however the jacket not as much but it does have 1.2 leather in high abrasion areas. I go with my Dainese C2 leather 2 piece suit when I feel like dragging knees. 2 piece FTW!!

I think you're taking peoples posts out of context because no one is saying what you're implying lol Were talking about wearing either a 1pc or 2 pc leather suit for the street and not building roll cages for our bikes. Ive seen the aftermath of guys going down in no leather and or textile. I know this sport can be very dangerous but if a simple leather suit is going to minimize my rash majorly without affecting the overall ride why not?
The whole who cares what you look like argument is also the biggest crock of .... there is ;). Its human nature to want to look good whether for yourself or others and as stated in another thread, when you look good you feel good:D

You are probably right on your first point....I guess I did take the post out of context. My bad. As to the looks part, every Saturday I sit at restaurants in goofy looking riding gear and the worst case of helmet hair you have ever seen. I've gotten past it. But I do agree that your last point is valid, I dress quite well for work. Good reply.

If you find people giving you unsolicited advice about where the nearest track is, perhaps the 1 piece is a bit much. LOL! I think I may get one for the track. A one piece compressed underwear gives me hope that I can get in one by myself.

my 2 cents

Considering you are getting older and wiser.. and have a panigale.. I am assuming you have a few extra dollars too.

I recommend, getting a Dainese d-air misano jacket and pair it with a dainese pant. You will get the comfort of 2 piece suit as others have mentioned for street riding and safety of the latest technology of a d-air suit.

Don't forget good gloves and boots.

Oh btw.. you will look cool in this too.

PS: older bones break easy and heal slowly

PS2: I am a fan of Dainese but don't work for them. Alpinestars has also come out with d-air technology recently.

There are no cons. You get used to it. I personally have been riding in 1pc since 2006, unless I'm riding into work or something. Most of my riding is recreational so I don the 1pc. What I like best is that I have no loose clothing flapping in the wind and it keeps my balls tucked up nicely so I don't fear hitting any big bumps! Oh, and your ... is protected the best way possible. Back in 2010 I had a 100+ mph wreck on the street and didn't lose any skin at all.
