So I did a quick search but didn't really see what my situation might be. I have a 2014 1199S and bought a used full Termi system with no upmap but bought the full Termi upmap from another seller. All good right? Well I dropped the bike off at the dealer to get it all installed, rode it home and remembered seeing something on here about with having the slip on upmap installed the dash should pop up with "Racing" at initial key on and with the full Termi upmap, the dash should read "Racing Evo" at key on... Well mine doesn't say anything. Just the normal ducati symbol, then right to the gauge cluster as usual. Called the dealer and the tech said that he followed all the instructions and prompts to load it and in fact did it twice to make sure and that he is positive that it's on there but knows nothing about the dash reading different with the upmap installed. So the way i see it...

1) maybe the upmap was installed on the first go round and then the second one pulled it back off (asked this and he said the prompts were exactly the same both times.)

2) there's a possibility I guess that the upmap was never pulled off the previous bike, meaning that I paid for an overpriced blank USB stick

3) maybe I'm crazy and have no clue what I'm talking about

4) maybe the never ending knowledge of the forum will have a completely different answer to solve this issue

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaannd go!

sounds like a map key for cans not full system.

You can do it yourself and check it is easy, pop that bad boy back in after reading instructions

I looked up the part number from the USB stick as soon as I got it and confirmed that it is for a full system.

You are correct in that it should say "racing Evo" after the upmap has been installed. If the upmap was installed on a previous bike and not removed from the bike and put back on the upmap it will give you an error when you try to install it. open the trunk, pull out the plug from under the small black cover, plug in the upmap and then turn the key to on (without starting it) and it will ask if you want to install it, tell it yes and it will try loading it, But it will error if it has not been removed from the old bike.. good luck

That's interesting... The tech didn't mention anything about receiving an error message, only that he went thru the process twice and he had the exact same prompts both times. And my dash doesn't read "Racing Evo" which is what lead me to believe that the upmap was never put back on the stick. But if it would've given an "error" message if that were the case then maybe it just didn't completely load it when the tech tried it? I hear these things can be a pain in the ass, sometimes taking 3-4 tries to be successful. Could it be that the map is in fact present on the stick and just hasn't been loaded properly?

I'll go back to the dealer tomorrow to pick up my stock stuff including the upmap so if it is as easy as you described, I'll give it a shot when I get off work tomorrow afternoon and see what happens.

Your answer is in bold. Load the UpMap again and all will be good. Each time it is done it just flips from Racing Evo to Stock.

I love it, the dealer actually said "the tech did it twice to make sure".

Now while that approach is very good in certain instances (like when showing love to the wonderful person in your life), for a dealer trained Ducati tech..... NO.

I wonder if he fills engine oil twice, just to make sure. Air in tyres twice ..... geeezzzz:rolleyes:

The guys above nailed it and hopefully you can try it yourself and verify. The bottom line is that at key-on, if your bike doesn't say "Racing" or "Racing Evo", then you do NOT have an upmap installed. Hope it works out for you but it sounds like it could be number 2.

LeftCoast, XBOX, and Jeff:

I agree with you all and that was my VERY first thought whenever he said he did it twice... maybe the first time unlocked the map in the ECU as it should have and then the second time locked it again, basically putting it back to the stock map. But he assured me that wasnt the case and of course, i brought it to a dealer to install the exhaust and the upmap with the understanding that they know what they're doing. Makes me question some of the techs there (Although when the tech and service manager were outside aweing at it when I started it up, they did say that that was the first full Termi that they've put on an 1199).

Whenever I get home, i'll give it a shot and see what I can do and report back what happens.

"First Termi system they put on""¦.Yeah"¦you might wanna get the fairings off and check for missing bolts, or proper torque. The front pipe is a bitch to bolt. If they were oohing and awe'ing over it that means they have not seen many. Thats bad too. My dealer has a whole warehouse full of em when you drive in, prob means they know more about em.

Do you have any other dealers in your area ? More experienced ones ? If he had to "do it a second time" he didn't know what he was doing the first.

Just a thought

When I took my bike back in to have my rearsets put on by the dealer that sold me the bike, they were oohing over the Rizomas... needless to say, the shift toe peg fell off on the way home.

When I took it to AMS (the real Dallas Ducati dealer), they removed my rearsets and reinstalled them with Loctite. During the process, they found that the left side bolt was hanging on by three threads.

Take it somewhere else and begin a relationship with a tech you can trust.

also remember this if you have the racing upmap (slip ons) you cant just add the racing evo (full system) up map. you have to first take off the racing upmap restore it to stock then add the full system.

i went from slips to full system and had to do this. take off then add . its simple to do you dont have to go to the dealer for this

dont feel bad on the rearsets many stories of the dp and duca bike not installed with loctite and the shifter coming lose.

Video coming soon (as soon as this ...... loads) but with no upmap plugged in, the dash shows nothing but the ducati symbol then straight to the dash I've explained. Plug the upmap in and then key the bike on and the dash says "map already present". With "exit" being the only option.

This makes no sense to me considering the fact that if there was a map already loaded onto the bike, it would show either "racing" or "racing evo" correct?

I know someone mentioned earlier that if the bike had a slip on map on it already and then switched to the full map later, the slip on map would have to be removed before loading the full map onto it... Thing is, I bought the bike brand new from the dealer back in June and this is the first thing I've really done to the bike so it shouldn't have a map on it already... Right?

Maybe during the first service, the techs might've loaded an updated stock map from Ducati into it or whatever so it thinks there's a map already in it meaning that update would need to be pulled off? .... if I know.

Unless the key is empty and that just isn't the most descriptive error message

I'll try dig out some documentation.

From the Termi Instructions.....

If download is not possible and the map to be downloaded is already present in the ECU the message "MAP ALREADY PRESENT" and the EXIT button (A6) are displayed. Press the button (X2) to quit. After pressing the button (X2) or after 10 seconds without pressing the button (X2), the message "UNPLUG UP-MAP" (A7) is displayed to instruct the user to unplug the device from the vehicle.

I believe your key only ever had the stock map on it. So, since the bike already has the stock map, you get this message.

You may have bought an expensive USB

That does not mean the map is already present?

up map dongle already used would display this???

And last, how does one remove previous map keyed in? It looks like if a upgraded map is keyed, the above is displayed.

I looked for removal instructions and could not find any.

Yes it does - it means the same map is present and since he only gets the Ducati logo at key on, he is running the stock map :)

No, already used dongle would attempt to flip maps back to stock. It would probably verify the same dongle was being used, seeing how careful Ducati have been over this.

Quote from Termi Manifold complete assembly kit (96450411B) instructions, since you need to go from Racing, to Stock, to Racing Evo, to complete the process.
Caution - Before loading the “racing evo” map for the manifold assembly, you need to downgrade to the OEM map (Standard vehicle map). To downgrade, enter the up map supplied with the mufflers* assembly purchased previously and use it to go back to the OEM map. You are now ready to upgrade to the “racing evo” map.

See above, from Termi Manifold complete assembly kit - 96450411B

* Actually, there is a nice translation error in the instructions - English says downgrade back with Manifold Key, while the original Italian says Muffler Key, which is obviously correct :)

xbox is correct as i had to do this and it was me that did it not the dealer. when i tried to install racing evo while racing was present it wouldnt let me. said map unable to install or something like that.
then i took the racing key and installed it. the bike automatically unistalled racing back on the key and reinstalled stock map back on the bike.

then i took the racing evo key and installed that . the racing evo key now has the stock map on it.

many dealers have no clue what map is on the usb drive.

fyi once the correct maps are on the correct keys they can be downloaded to anybike. the rumor that you cant use the upmap on a different bike isnt true. yes its true if its on the bike but once you take it off it can go on any bike.

also there is a rumor of a master key that the dealer has that has all the maps on it. if needed they should be able to do it for you. who knows as i said rumored.

Maps are not on keys though.

It is just a key to change maps on ECU.
