Got rid of the 1299s

There will always be some "Monday-Ducs" (assembled by Luigi after a frustrating Sunday without sex and pasta).

The 1299 is my 15th bike, the Monster 1200S my 14th. 9'000km with the 1299 in 7 months, 10 days on the track, no issues, absolutely nothing. It runs great (ok, European model) without changing anything (and sure even greater with an optimized mapping) . The Monster has 30'000km on the speedo, two trackdays, no issues, absolutely nothing.

When I was in Jerez between the 26 and 31 December we were 8 bikes in the box. 5 trackdays and about 220km a day. First day a Yamaha R1 (2013) killed the gearbox, second day the cylinder of a nearly new BMW S1000RR (2015) leaked and the Kawasaki ZXR10 (2013) killed the gearbox. The fully armed Pani 1199R of my buddy and my 1299S worked without probs, like the 9 trackdays before.
Ok, this aren't results of any statistical value :). But if I browse some BMW forum I find also more than one owner with problems...

I am very sorry for all who got a Monday-Duc and hope your dealer can fix the probs or replace your bike by a Tuesday-Duc (Monday night, the migraine of Luigi's wife was gone…). For my part I am very happy with the reliability and drivability of this real racer (knock on wood it stays that way).

I've never owned a Monday Duc (evidently). After almost 30 yrs of continuous ownership of one model or another they were all Wednesday-built (I'm guessing).

Had a flaking rocker on a 748 (first year in US - replaced free long after warranty had expired) and I cracked the aluminum swing arm on a 750ss (from running it hard into T1 at IRP - an awful washboard of a corner that used to blow out oil seals on peoples forks). 5 minutes and $25 with a TiG welder fixed that. Both issues easily/quickly solved.

Have had much worse and more aggravation on other brands over the years. Ducati's have been (compared to other brands I've owned) pretty reliable. True, higher maintenance costs. But I knew that going in. But quality and reliability better than any others. YMMV.

That new 2016 Kawasaki ZX10R is looking mighty appealing....

Especially now that it has the same exact same M -50 Brembo brakes setup as the Ducati 1299. It also has much more sophisticated suspension copied directly from their winning Superbikes experience...Totally new motor High tech electronics TC Etc more power etc etc......... And it will be much more reliable..!
My old 2011 ZX10 ran perfect all the time (and I ran the crap out of it on the track mostly.)..

I may just have to get one....So I will have something to ride while the Ducati is in the shop...LOL

Speedy
funny I have had my 2012 ABS zx10R since it came out without one single issue. love the bike and with the ecu flashed I was getting 184 at the wheel on the dyno which is over 200hp at the crank.
I was about the get the 2016 zx10r but always wanted a Duc so ended up with the 2016 Panigale R. Only 200 miles and still breaking her in but so far this bike feels good. different but I like it so far. Still have my 10r so might sell her to get the 2016 10r :D

I know how you feel Grayson, my 1199s had issues. Was in the shop for 9 months. I sold it once it was fixed as I was turned off from the ducs. 2 years went by and I'm back on the 1299.

Sometimes you just need a break. Tons of awesome bikes out there to try anyways. I'd like to ride as many as I can while I can. Just to experiment I guess. Kinda like my single life in the past now that I think about it :D

Agree, its sad to know you won't know if you have a lemon until after you purchase the bike/car but it happens. As posted I just got my R and only 200 miles but 200 miles with no issues lol so far.

In regard to the heat from the subframe, is there any of the fixes out there that seems to be the best?

I can't imagine having real burns or blisters from a ride. :D

I've definitely had my fair share of woes with my Ducati's. '08 848 recalls but mostly really damn good but my 2012 1199 has had a little more issues. My old '03 CBR600rr was a tank though. Took a beating and ran no problems.

That's in a way is the beauty and the fault of this brand... These bikes are assembled one by one and each can be different from the other, which makes them so special. Yet at the same time it leaves room for error. Some people report certain issues, others say their bikes are as solid as they can be...
When I bought my 848 it had 0 issues, except for the damn line between the fuel filter and the fuel pump kept coming loose, but that was an easy fix... With 1199, 1299 as the technology grows the issues we are experiencing will be nearly impossible to eliminate.
I guess at the end of the day if you're willing to own this special machine you have to expect to give it some special attention. Just my humble opinion here...

Exactly how all other motorcycles are made in 2015.

For a moment there I thought that was you riding that bicycle with out your pants on.. Prince....:D

Glad I didn't get a Monday one, I have to mess up real bad to get mine to stall, don't even need the right wrist on my uphill drive way. I have full akra and map, no filter yet or rapid bike. At around 4K in second gear on chicanes it is a bit of a pain, after its broke in, I assume I will just leave it in first.

Just brought a new 1299 4 wks ago had problems ever since I rode it away chain rubbing on swingarm, took it back they checked it put a new chain on,rode 5ks happened again so now taking it back for a swingarm replacement,I'm hoping that's all it is.Anyone else have stalling issues taking off from the lights??

It's not the heat from under the seat, it's the heat from the Subframe on your leg. And yes, if you leave your leg on it you will burn the .... out of yourself, wear leathers or Kevlar jeans and it's not painful, just uncomfortable. Some carbon subframe covers fix-ish this issue enough you don't notice it.

I'm not sure how you can say it's not the heat from under the seat. The seat itself gets hotter than hell and the heat comes from somewhere under the seat. I get more heat on the seat itself than I do in my leg. I'm sure it does heat up the subframe too, I just don't agree that heat under the seat is not an issue.

But to the person who asked the question, it is only a bad issue on hot days riding in stop and go driving. This time of year I really don't notice it at all unless I'm stopping a lot in traffic, and even then it's not too bad.

My 07 R1 was horrendous is warm stop and go traffic as well ,, downfall of both bikes exhaust routes

Easy fix is track it ;)
