Got rid of the 1299s

Not sure you meant it this way, but the way you worded this suggests that your experience has been bad.

I think he meant he has made one warranty claim in all of that time. That warranty claim itself was painless and hassle free.

The best thing I ever bought for my 1199 was an extended warranty...

So far the dash has been replaced, the ecu has been replaced, the rear wheel sensor has been replaced, the gear sensor has been replaced, the rear O2 sensor has been replaced, it has had two oil leaks, and is in need of another O2 sensor replacement.

Additionally, it kills the fluids as fast as it does the tires...

Luckily my Diavel has been relatively trouble free other than some cosmetic issues (the finish on the brake and clutch reservoir caps has peeled and the carbon tank cracked). In fact, I have dropped one bike off at the dealer while picking up the other on several occasions and for a several month period the only trip both bikes made was to the dealer to swap them out...

However, and call me stupid (because I am), but the smile I get when I crack the throttle open is larger than the smile than any of my previous bikes has elicited. When I go on an aggressive ride with some friends, nothing (and I mean NOTHING) makes me feel the way the Panigale does, period.

To me, the point of anything is to smile and in this regard, I couldn't be happier.

I am kinda feeling left out here. Apart from the left hand indicator wiring loom recall fix (30 mins in the shop) and having the gear position sensor recalibrated (30 mins) I have not had any problems with my 2012 1199s.

does anyone remember poor old 'Elitesoldier357" and the story of how his bike caught fire ?? What ever happened to him ?

I remember that poor dude... crazy story.

Reading this thread makes me a little uneasy as I have just purchased a new 1299. It'll also be my first Ducati. But I did a lot of reading before pulling the trigger so I, for the most part, knew what I was getting into. And I still feel what I'm getting into is one incredible motorcycle.
I guess my first unforeseen problem right off the bat is being able to pick the thing up. Purchase was last Saturday and the plan was to bring it home this Saturday. But the blasted snowstorm here in the Eastern US has other plans.
Can someone please advise me on how well the 1299 does in 2 feet of snow???

Just turn it on, let it idle for a few minutes and it will turn all the snow in its close proximity into water. Will be just like riding in the rain.

Please wear a Go Pro and post in here the results of your snow exploration. LOL!

Serious question, what is "wrong" with the way the bike runs in stock form (OEM exhaust and no tuner)? Any by "wrong" I mean will the bike not get somebody around town or even around the track ok?

I know there are power gains to be had and the curve can be smoothed out with a tuner, but that doesn't mean something is necessarily wrong with the OEM setup.

Even if there is a dip in power, it still makes a ton of torque even at the lowest point of the dip...more than just about all other sportbikes at that same RPM.

When I was moving at speed (15-20mph) in 1st gear, the bike would stall. While i am sure this would get me around ok, it's not the most convenient way to ride. If this was a fueling issue or electrical issue I'm unsure. All Duc's stall, never had one stall at speed like that.

You gotta remember those are 116 mm buckets that you are lugging at that low speeds. Not too good for the engine. I'm not surprised it would stall. Bit of clutch work is definitely needed, or you gotta be gentle with the throttle.

Were you feathering the clutch?

My R1 would stall below 20mph if i wasnt feathering the clutch. These bikes can reach triple digits in 1st gear, they simply arent made to ride around at 15mph with the clutch fully disengaged. At that speed the RPMs arent high enough to keep it running properly.

Even on 600's im not usually all the way out of the clutch till im above 20mph.

A friend of mine just got a replacement 1299S from Ducati as the Dealer couldn't figure out how oil was leaking into the air box of his original 1299S

Holy crap, this is an easy one!

Overfilled crankcase, Don't go with oil volume from the manual, go with the lower mark in the sight window. At least 500ml difference there!

Sad to say, but an overfilled crankcase is a bit simplistic...see Post #46 on page 5 of this thread (for pictures) my first attempt to solve the "dripping air box syndrome" was to reduce the oil level to the low level mark...it simply did not work - after a few conversations with my dealer, they pretty much nailed it down to internal tolerances with the piston ring, piston & cylinder sleeve -- the motor was broken in "by the book" as I have with all previous ducs in my garage (as painful as it may sound)

However I would check oil level first before panic sets in about an engine tear down, as you may in fact be overfilled....but if your level has been at the midway to low level, chances are your engine needs, if nothing else, a look-see - keep in mind, my engine only sucked the oil out of itself while exercising the tach...shift light shifts and repetitively - sometimes you just can't help it (like whenever you ride this bike) !! :D

Here is what I posted:

2015 Pani-R...first its in the air box, then on the floor...as it collects in the air box, it finds its way to the drain hose and out through the bottom of the bike....while on the side stand

my motor was just "refreshed" at the dealer since i lived with that condition all riding season....they replaced some internal engine parts:

-Piston Rings
-Piston
-Cylinder Sleeve

Get used to it , mine does it all the time...Sometimes in the middle of an intersection! Lot 's of fun! .. No one can seem to fix it..
The Dealers don't seem to have a fix for it... You are one of those like me that got one with issues and Ducati (cannot or will not admit) it is a major problem I found out if you own one that stalls you just have to put up with its
"Ducati character" as I've been told.. I spent a lot of money on Akropovic Exhaust Sprint filter and finally a Rapid Bike Racing module (which helpd the low end throttle response immensely) however I have not found anything that can explain the stalling issues. Lot's of theories but NO definitive answer) . I even removed the carbon canister. No difference..still stalls ... And since it is just happening occasionally it is hard to get it in and have a mechanic ride it till it does it... Of course if you bring it into the dealer then it will never act up LOL.

I have had mine since April 2015 and I have lost count how many times it has been in the dealer.. At least I have a nice (trouble free) 2013 ZX14r to ride when it is in the shop LOL

What speed are we talking about? Are you also talking about at under 25mph?

Damn near ANY Liter sportbike can stall if you fully disengage the clutch at 20mph and under. They simply arent geared nor meant to ride that slow with the clutch all the way out.

Of course the dealer can't fix it. There is no fix for that short of getting a Harley or something.
